Lordpatch User Info... | 1. Issa Nakhleh: the Fascist Character of the Israeli State ... As Nakhleh notes, it was the fascist orientation of the Jabotinsky Zionists that permitted and excused these terrorist crimes. “By reason of their very objectives, Nazis and Zionists are fascists, a fact confirmed by their methods of doing things, and their attitude toward human life. This is demonstrated in their attitude toward war,” a method of war completely at odds with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, a fact demonstrated once again with the invasion and ethnic cleansing of Lebanon. In essence, the bombardment and invasion of Lebanon is a repeat of the 1948 expulsion of the Palestinians: In the first period of the Zionist war for the partition of Palestine, the Zionist forces bombarded indiscriminately every possible Arab village with mortar fire, killing innocent men, women and children. In some cases the villagers fled the murderous fire on their own; in other cases Arab authorities recommended flight to the villagers to escape the murderous fire raining down upon them for no apparent military reason…. In many cases the Zionists killed Palestinian villagers by bombardment from the air, the same type of war crime they continued for decades afterwards against Palestinians in refugee camps…. When bombing and shelling and the shooting of unarmed civilians to set an example of the fate awaiting those who would remain in their village was insufficient to force the Palestinians out, the Zionists would simply order the inhabitants to leave…. After expelling those Palestinian Arabs they had not murdered, the Zionists wantonly burned and destroyed the houses of the inhabitants they had expelled…. Many times Palestinian Arabs from villages on main roads fled temporarily for safety to nearby villages, expecting to return to their homes when the fighting died down. When they tried to return home, they found that the Zionists had wantonly destroyed their homes to make it impossible for the indigenous Arab populace to return. Green thinking: How Israel lays waste in the eco-war It is a measure of the scale of Israel's atrocities against the Lebanese that the worst environmental disaster in Lebanon's history has gone largely unreported in the midst of all the death and destruction. "Chances are our whole marine ecosystem facing the Lebanese shoreline is already dead," laments the country's environment minister, Yacub Sarraf. "What is at stake is all marine life in the eastern Mediterranean." More than 15,000 tonnes of fuel oil has leaked from Lebanon's Jiyye power plant since it was attacked by Israeli warplanes on 13 July. As if deliberately to hamper any attempts to staunch the flow of oil, Israel then bombed the power plant again two days later, preventing emergency workers from gaining access to the site. An indication of the scale of the disaster comes from satellite photos showing a 3,000-square-kilometre slick along two-thirds of Lebanon's coastline. The oil has now begun to wash up in Syria. Worst affected among the region's wildlife will be green turtles, an endangered species whose young begin to hatch on Lebanese beaches in late July. As the baby turtles scramble towards the sea, they will run straight into the oil and die. Environmental groups say they are prevented from surveying the damage or rescuing the turtles because of continued Israeli fire. full article: http://www.newstatesman.com/200608140026 3. Update from Lebanon from Huwaida Arraf Friends, I apologize for not being in touch sooner. Thank you so much for all your messages of support and solidarity. They really mean a lot. All of us who went on the convoy yesterday are safe. Unfortunately we didn't reach our goal. See press release below. Just a few minutes ago we heard a series of large explosions, unlike anything I've heard since I've been in Beirut. Reports are they've dropped over 20 bombs in Al Dahiya suburb of Beirut. I don't know for sure yet, but suspect that these are the U.S. supplied bunker buster bombs. My guess would be that Israel is trying to kill Nasrallah (who they suspect is under ground) before the ceasefire is supposed to take effect in 16 hours. More later.... Huwaida Arraf [email protected] ... Here, in Lebanon, the first convoy of civilians was to depart on August 12 to the south, whose final destination, pending questions of security on the ground, was to reach Nabatiyeh. The mission of the convoy, as the mission of the campaign, is to mark a stand in solidarity and unity of all the people of Lebanon, to break the siege on the south, and to defy Israel’s policy of forced expulsions, terror and organized massacres of civilians. full aricle: http://vancouver.indymedia.org/?q=node/2034 THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST PROTEST AGAINST THE U.S.-ISRAELI ASSAULT Overwhelming military power has inflicted unimaginable human suffering but failed in achieving its political objectives of transforming the entire oil rich region into a virtual colony. The effort to achieve the "new" colonialism by brute force has and will inspire continued resistance by the Lebanese, Palestinian, Iraqi, Syrian and Iranian people and all the peoples of the area. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/13/washington/13protest.html?_r=1&oref=slogin - Sun, 13 Aug 2006 7:05am Edited: Sun, 13 Aug 2006 12:55pm

Mace User Info... | Once again, all of Lordpatch's meshugah talk of dead Palestinians and Lebaneases, is making me hungry for 'matzo-ball soup'. L'chaim! $50 bux riding says Hezbollocks can't hold to their end of bargain, with the cease fire. - Sun, 13 Aug 2006 4:48pm Edited: Sun, 13 Aug 2006 4:48pm
