jeff User Info... | I think censorship is fucked and nothing should be censored. - Thu, 25 May 2006 12:48pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | I too think censorship sucks...but just because it shouldn't be in place, doesn't mean everyone SHOULD say what they want. If enough people used their logic, it wouldn't need to exist. - Thu, 25 May 2006 2:25pm Edited: Thu, 25 May 2006 2:26pm
Shaggy User Info... | Think you meant tact rather than logic Nik. - Thu, 25 May 2006 3:12pm
hang.the.dj User Info... | I think it's dumb how there can be half-naked women in music videos, suggestive lyrics, poses and messages but words like bitch and fuck are bleeped out.... like, HELLO? - Thu, 25 May 2006 7:00pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | Censorship rules go fuck off somewhere. - Thu, 25 May 2006 7:20pm Edited: Thu, 25 May 2006 7:20pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | I'm not saying to just pretend to be careful, I actually mean that one wouldn't need to say outlandish things to get attention. - Thu, 25 May 2006 10:25pm
Gman User Info... | bitch and fuck are bleeped out America is not Canada. You are watching American TV if this is the case as Canadian TV does not censor language for the most part. Oh, and saying half-naked is like saying half-pregnant. I prefer the term 'scantily clad'. - Fri, 26 May 2006 1:51pm Edited: Fri, 26 May 2006 1:52pm
Mutilashawn User Info... | censor everything, protect the children - Sat, 27 May 2006 12:47am
jay brown User Info... | Where's the line? I dont mind half naked or people saying fuck, but some bible thumper teaching kids that gay people should die and aids is gods way of making it happen shouldnt be allowed on in my world. No talk show would have ever had a nazi skinhead on it, ever. I dont mind violence on t.v. but even I am willing to admit it's gone way too far....Where's the line in the sand? 10000 murders a month on t.v. are o.k. but 12000 is too much? Music videos, hmm, well while I love waching porn I dont know if letting a nation full of children watch softcore porn all day, every day, is such a brlliant idea. How about the gang culture in rap and hip hop. Do you think we would have the levels of gangs and violence we see now if kids werent trying to be just like what they see on t.v. and in the movies and listen to on c.d.s? Sure I'm against censorship I think it's wrong to be able to tell people what they can or cannot watch or listen to. But look around you things sure aint getting any better. - Sat, 27 May 2006 9:11am
hang.the.dj User Info... | Gman you didn't get my point - Sat, 27 May 2006 3:31pm
Lordpatch User Info... | "hear me: an unconscious people, an indoctrinated people, a people fed only partisan information and opinion that confirm their own bias, a people made morbidly obese in mind and spirit by the junk food of propaganda is less inclined to put up a fight, ask questions and be skeptical. and just as a democracy can die of too many lies, that kind of orthodoxy can kill us, too." --bill moyers -- "Media Reform in St. Louis, Missouri, May 15, 2005" http://www.freepress.net/news/8120 "Every news organization has First Amendment rights, just as I'm exercising mine right now. But speaking out is one thing, keeping others from being heard is another....Nowadays, these mega-media conglomerates relieve government of the need for censorship by doing it themselves. So we're reminded once again that journalism's best moments have come not when journalists make common cause with the state but stand fearlessly independent of it. A free press remains everything to a free society." -- bill moyers -- "The Media, Politics and Censorship" http://www.alternet.org/story/18637/ or http://victoria.indymedia.org/news/2004/05/25623.php - Sat, 27 May 2006 4:18pm
Gman User Info... | Was your point that you live in America? I could have sworn this was Live Victoria... that being the one in BC, Canada. - Mon, 29 May 2006 3:13pm
Hang the DJ User Info... | Um no I watch Canadian television, if I ever watch tv, hardly, but if ever.. My point was that why would they censor "explicit" language, yet still have very suggestive videos parading "scantily clad" women. My point was, what's more deserving of censorship? - Mon, 29 May 2006 4:18pm
Gman User Info... | Well, again I'm pretty sure Canadian TV is not big on bleeping words. Certainly I used to watch Larry Sanders on Global and not a single "fuck" was ever removed. So, yeah. Not sure where you're coming from on that. - Mon, 29 May 2006 4:45pm
Lordpatch User Info... | issues of censorship go beyond cussing and showing people's bits and pieces. people here are speaking to the question. the question goes beyond borders since our media is dominated by u.s. global interests. - Mon, 29 May 2006 10:45pm
Gman User Info... | our media is dominated by u.s. global interests Really? CTV? CBC? Globe and Mail? The Sun papers? Anything specific, or just talking points on 'evil US imperialism'? If on the other hand, you'd like to talk about actual Canadian censorship issues, I'd check into Customs' treatment of the Little Sisters bookstore. http://www.egale.ca/index.asp?lang=E&menu=73 People's bits and pieces indeed. - Mon, 29 May 2006 11:13pm
Lordpatch User Info... | the question wasn't that canada has no media. the question was "Do you believe in censorship?" so you agree that our media is dominated by u.s. global interests. the issue of cenorship goes beyond where you get your porn. we have to move beyond a juvenile rage and hormone obsession. what people have to say, the media we watch, the news we receive, our opinions, artistic expressions, political points of view are on a greater scale than how we excite ourselves and whether we can cuss on tv or not. laws of censorship will be used against people, journalist and artist with something to say (like the dead kennedys) and not with those who reduce life to a jiggle and expletive or comply with the samethink totalitarianism of global new world order and it's packaged identity for the exchange of a buck and f**k. so maybe, as Hang the DJ queried, this is why "scantily clad" women are permitted, as well as "scantily clad" young men because they become objects -- property. where as to have them speak would gived them identity. the word is far more dangerous than the rush of hormones and the body unpolitical. cenorship is selective and meant to repress cultural and intellectual growth. - Tue, 30 May 2006 10:45am Edited: Tue, 30 May 2006 12:11pm
Gman User Info... | You misread. I do not believe Canadian media is dominated by US interests. Porn is nothing new, so forget your 'new world order' bullshit. In fact, some would argue that the proliferation of small pornographic pamphlets was one reason the printing press, and later photography, became as popular as they did. I'm disturbed that you don't feel real issues of censorship, like the harrasment of Little Sisters, are important because they deal with sexuality. Your elitist attitude denies an entire (and perfectly legitimate) human form of expression - one that's most commonly the first to be censored. As well, you obviously have no problem with actual instances of censorship being used to marginalize sexual minorities who have only recently been able to express their lives to those of us who may not have any idea what it's like to have that part of your life repressed. It appears you may even agree that this kind of censorship is valid as it deals only with 'the rush of hormones' and not more 'important' matters. As far as I'm concerned, everyone's free or no one's free. In this light, the ordeal that Little Sister was put through is ever bit a valid fight for freedom as the investigation into the UBC/RCMP pepper spray (and 'free speech zone') situation. Yet all you provide are these wishy-washy X-File reality cliches. Yawn-a-fucking-riffic. I'm just glad you're (hopefully) not in any position to decide for me whether my right to BDSM gay pron is to me as important as my ability to talk about political repression. - Tue, 30 May 2006 12:44pm Edited: Tue, 30 May 2006 12:46pm
Lordpatch User Info... | dude, nobody was hating on your porn collection or your victim status. the question was; "Do you believe in censorship?". i guess you only care when it comes to homosexual issues regarding porn and spankings and larry sandler being able to cuss on tv. cool. at least you spoke to the question. and dude, i'm not your enemy nor did i stop your porn at the border nor did i bomb your gay shop. take your attack to rcmp or ubc or the costums agent that stole your leather porn. no need to get FUCKING HOSTILE!!! ah i miss pantera dim bag (r.i.p.) - Tue, 30 May 2006 2:21pm Edited: Tue, 30 May 2006 2:25pm

Eurydice User Info... | Dunno what kind of censorship you're talking about, but personally, I don't like seeing nasty ol sex scenes, wrinkly penises, rape, blood and guts. As for music, whatever you want to listen to, go nuts. I'll deal with you when I get to you. - Thu, 1 Jun 2006 10:07pm
