Not entirely surprising, (but completely disgusting) considering the History between Muslims and the Nazi party dating back to WW2. A lot of people are unaware just how much the Baa'th (who I know were Syrian) party and Muslims were in bed with Hitler. Hitler himself never really considered the Muslims as allies until near the end of the war, however, Adolf Eichmann and Al Husseini both had a mad hate on for the Jews. Some of this hate still continues with SOME extemist Muslims who believe in the same Nazi born ideology. Christians are hated just as much.
Again, this is SOME Muslims far from all.

Keep reading before you jump on the anti-Muslim bandwagon (even if it's only *some* Muslims, eh?) ... as if lots of Christians, Athiests, and Jews themselves didn't support the NAZIs.

These reports are being denied by the government of Iran and Jews in Iran itself.

Besides, I don't know anyone who accepts what the National Post says as gospel. I mean, don't you remember Lord Conrad Black?! - Fri, 19 May 2006 5:13pm

OK, to clarify. I am certainly NOT anti-muslim. I have friends of the faith who are GOOD people. That is why I was sure to state that this is not ALL muslims.
Secondly, I was referring to the extremist wing of Islam who there can be NO doubt have they're hate on for Jews and Christians.
And I'd like you to find any Jews who supported the Nazis who didn't do it out of fear for his life. There is a VAST differece between what you call "support" and what I call "choosing to live". I know my history, and I am aware that yes other faiths have also "supported" as you say the Nazis. There exists a differece when you "support" (because that is a loose term) and design hate. Neither should, or can be tolorated in this world.
Whether or not this story is 100% true or not, there can be no question there is some merit to it. The National Post is amoung hundreds of others running this story. In fact, here is an one from Iran itself which CLEARLY mentions that this type of faith segregation IS INDEED in the workings. The engineering of separating non-muslims (again, I assert by SOME Muslims) is not the stuff of anti-Muslim bandwagons, or flashly sell newspaper headlines....its a cold hard FACT.... Conrad Black hater or not.

I will agree with you in that the media does have a tendancy to talk from the horses ass about 90% of the time, there does exist that other 10%. - Fri, 19 May 2006 7:32pm Edited: Fri, 19 May 2006 7:36pm

Maybe because it was based on 'sources in the Iranian-Canadian' community who may have reasons to stir up anti-Iranian propaganda and is now being roundly critisized as a hoax?

http://volokh.com/posts/1148057527.shtml

A variety of opinion there.

Obviously, the extremists in the Iranian Government are lunatics, much as extremists anywhere else. But if this mere fact makes you believe anything negative you then read, I'd suggest some courses in critical thinking.

Also, I suspect that history is a little more complicated than you may be used to thinking it is.

"The revelation that Germans of Jewish blood, knowing the Nazi regime for what it was, served Hitler as uniformed members of his armed forces must come as a profound shock. It will surprise even professional historians of the Nazi years."

In fact, there were Jews in the German Military who stayed until they were eventually forced out and into the same camps as the rest of the 'un-desireables'. - Sat, 20 May 2006 1:13pm Edited: Sat, 20 May 2006 1:37pm

OK, so we've looked at what source I got my info from...now lets look at where you get yours.

Rense.com.......hmmm a webpage created by a Californian (of all things) who devotes his energies to conspriacy theories, UFO's, and a general mistrust of ANYTHING that is known as established. So, you tell me should I be relying on information from Jeff Rense (who happens to broadcast his feeds to space in hopes that extra-terrestrial life will suscribe) or should I maybe assume that National Post would JUST MAYBE have a more grounded story? This guy makes Michael Moore and Oliver Stone look gullable. The link you proviided (which by your measure) somehow proves that the Jews fought with the Germans is NOTHING than some guy who is plugging a promo for a upcoming (4years ago) book release that will somehow reveal the untold truths and in the process make a best-seller. Well I can't seem to remember that book or writers name anywhere on the best sellers list...can you?

Your second source baffles me even more than Mr.transmit to space...

volokh.com....a site made by a bunch of granola loving Law professors from where else but....California. I mean COME ON! They get a fuckin law degree from Berkley or UCLA and they suddenly have the authority to pontificate upon current events? You couldn't find a more biased site if you tried man!
While I definately applaud your obvoius intelligence and ability to question, I wonder why someone of your intellect accepts a bunch of Californians versions of history and current events as reality. That is unless you are maybe a Californian yourself or the yuppy larvae of one.

I mean no insult to you and rather enjoy intellegent debate, so don't take it as personal, its just debate and opinion dude. No one's right no one's wrong.....unless of course your from California and your last name happens to be Rense, then that just changes everything right Mr. Rense? - Sat, 20 May 2006 3:57pm Edited: Sat, 20 May 2006 4:23pm

Whatevs, bud. Check the latest Ottawa Citizen for a story on the Iranian thing.

Here's another quote about the book you so casually dismissed:

Rigg's book focuses on the large number of Mischlinge and handful of Jews who served in the German armed forces. It is based on an impressive body of original research. He conducted interviews with 430 people, many of whom also donated their privately-held documents. ... Specialists in the history of the Third Reich have been aware for some time of the curious situation of the Mischlinge. - Sat, 20 May 2006 7:43pm

No one's right no one's wrong.

Except you and Stephen Harper.

Canada's ambassador to Iran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in apparent diplomatic fallout from remarks by Prime Minister Stephen Harper ... But the prime minister stepped back from that comment following a speech in London, Ont., on Wednesday

This certainly isn't going to help as we try to secure the release of Canadian citizens from Iran's prisons. - Thu, 25 May 2006 5:38pm

Canadian paper apologizes for anti-Iran story

Reuters - World News
May 24, 2006

OTTAWA - A Canadian newspaper apologized on Wednesday for a story that said Iran planned to force Jews and other religious minorities to wear distinctive clothing to distinguish themselves from Muslims.

The conservative National Post ran the story on its front page last Friday along with a large photo from 1944 which showed a Hungarian couple wearing the yellow stars that the Nazis forced Jews to sew to their clothing.

The story, which included tough anti-Iran comments from prominent Jewish groups, was picked up widely by Web sites and by other media.

"Is Iran turning into the new Nazi Germany? Share your opinion online," the paper asked readers last Friday.

But the National Post, a long-time supporter of Israel and critic of Tehran, admitted on Wednesday it had not checked the piece thoroughly enough before running it.

"It is now clear the story is not true," National Post editor-in-chief Douglas Kelly wrote in a long editorial on page 2. "We apologize for the mistake and for the consternation it has caused not just National Post readers, but the broader public who read the story."

The story was based on a column by Iranian expatriate writer Amir Taheri, who said a law being debated by Iran's parliament would force Jews to sew a yellow strip of cloth to their clothes. Christians would wear a red strip while Zoroastrians would wear a blue one.

Iranian legislators dismissed the story.

The story and the column appeared at a time when the international community is pressuring Tehran over its nuclear program. Iran is also under fire for comments by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he doubted the scale of the Holocaust.

Asked about the Post story last Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Iran "is very capable of this kind of action." He added: "It boggles the mind that any regime on the face of the Earth would want to do anything that could remind people of Nazi Germany."

A spokesman for Harper said the prime minister had started off his comments with the words "If this is true."

OTTAWA —A Canadian diplomat has been called on the carpet in Tehran to explain comments by Prime Minister Stephen Harper comparing the Iranian regime to Nazi Germany.

Last Friday, a front-page report in the National Post claimed that a new law passed by the Iranian parliament required Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges identifying them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

Yesterday, the paper said the story was not true, but not before Harper told reporters that the Iranian regime was very capable of such a thing, and compared it to Nazi Germany.

"Our ambassador was called in by the Iranian foreign ministry to discuss the story," a foreign affairs spokesperson told the Star yesterday.

Gordon Venner has been Canada's ambassador in Tehran for the last year, following Canada's removal of the ambassador to protest the torture and murder of Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi in July 2003.

Venner was called in Sunday to the Iranian foreign ministry.

Yesterday, Harper stressed he had been careful to preface his comments at the time with the caveat that it depended upon verification of the story.

"I'm glad to hear that the government of Iran is not considering this," Harper told reporters after a speech in London, Ont.

"But that doesn't make me any less concerned about the comments that the government of Iran has made on issues like Israel's right to exist, on denial of the Holocaust," Harper said.

"We continue to take issue with the government of Iran on those matters," he said.

When asked about the report last Friday, Harper said he had only seen the article, and prefaced his remarks with "if (reports) are true."

"Unfortunately, we have seen enough already from the Iranian regime to suggest that it is very capable of this kind of action," Harper told reporters.

"I think it boggles the mind that any regime on the face of the earth would remind people of Nazi Germany."

But yesterday, the National Post published a correction.

"It is now clear the story is not true," wrote Douglas Kelly, the Post's editor-in-chief.

Kelly said that the Post first heard of the story in a column by Iranian journalist Amir Taheri who, he said, wrote at length about legislation to establish a dress code for Muslims.

"Religious minorities would have their own colour schemes," Kelly quoted Taheri as writing. "They will also have to wear special insignia ... to indicate their non-Islamic faith."

However, Kelly wrote, it since "became clear that the dress code bill, which was introduced on May 14 and has not yet been passed into law, does not include such provisions."

MMN Note: Interesting that Amir Taheri, the person who began this hoax, is sticking to his story. See: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HE24Ak01.html

At least now he is completely discredited, along with the zionist and other racist and extremist hatemongering war masters who propagated the story.
