We all know what happened a few weeks ago with Moore and Naslund. Lots of people I talked to were outraged at that hit, just wondering what the Canucks fans think about Burtuzzi's love tap from tonight's game.
I love it when the Canucks are losing Burtuzzi freaks out, haha, what a bunch of sore losers tonight, got your fucking asses creamed! - Mon, 8 Mar 2004 9:03pm

Bertuzzi fucked up in a big way last night. This is incident is going to overshadow his entire career. In his defense though, he just wanted to fight the guy, but moore kept skating away, three different Canucks tried to fight moore on that same shift. If Moore had just dropped the gloves and taken his beating, there would have been no sucker punch. I also blame Tony Granato for even dressing moore in this game. Moore isnt a big part of the Avs team, he could have sat this game out. Or at least, when the score is 8-2 and the game is getting really ugly, keep him off the ice. Granato was pointing fingers at Crawford, I think Granato is much more at fault for what happened that Crawford. Ugly game all in all. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 8:09am

didja see Tocchet beaking off?? That guy wasn't helping matters either.

Bert fucked up for sure, but I don't believe for a minute that he meant Moore to have his face smashed into the ice like that. If you watch it closely, you can see Bert punched him really fucking hard upside the head, then pulled himself right up close behind him immediately afterwards, and as Bert's right arm came down from punching, it kind of grabbed around Moore sorta bear-hug style and they both fell. Moore was so dazed he didn't even appear to try and lift his arms to protect himself as he fell, with 240lb Bert right on top of him. Bad news for everybody.

Wouldn't shock me to see Bert out for the rest of the season, including playoffs. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 8:50am

if i were in bertuzzi's shoes i would've done the same thing... he's sending a message out there, fuck with us and we'll fuck with you. Moore is a little bitch, i saw what happened and yeah matt is right granato should't have dressed moore. And what worse is that moore should've stood up for himself instead of running the whole game(well 2 and a bit periods i guess for him). but when bertuzzi takes it in his own hands and drops the hammer of thor on moore's head you better recognize... i just hope moore's career isn't at jepordy( i know bert will be back) - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 9:46am

I bet if there were no instigator rule, the Nucks coulda dealt with Moore right away and none of this would have been an issue. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 11:13am

How about Ruutuu's punch on Blake?
That was golden!!!
And Worrell freaking out after someone threw a drink at him. And Tochett looking pissed off and not doing anything about it.
The Canucks may have lost on the scoreboard, but, in my book they came out of that game as the clear cut winners...aside from Bertuzzi and his neck wrecker. Mind you, Moore should have just taken his shots. He sure is a pussy.
Cloutier is going to blow it for the Canucks in the playoffs...mark my words! Start Hedberg or lose big time. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 2:14pm

Ok, I'm really behind.... What did Moore do in the first place?

There's no way Bertuzzi intended to fuck him up that badly.... But he's a big boy, and should know his limits.... Bah, I dunno, and I frankly don't care.... - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 2:34pm

J,

You're a fucking idiot if you'd right hook someone in the side of the head from behind. Total bullshit. He was out before he hit the ice. I'm a big Nucks fan, but Bertuzzi deserves everything he gets.

In all likelyhood Granato gave Moore the option to be on the ice. He is an unestablished player trying to make an impression. He isn't going to make an impression by hiding on the bench.

He answered the bell with Cook and he parked himself in front of the net to score a goal. What more do you want? Free shots?

At least Naslund had put himself in a precarious and vulnerable postion in a game that was going full speed when he got KO'd. Moore was drifting with his back turned.

Pure cowardice on Bertuzzi's part. Totally unjustified and undefendable. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 2:46pm

Gotta agree with Ike, I'm also a big Canucks fan but there's no way you can blame Moore for this one. Yeah, his hit on Nazzie was borderline, but no reason to stoop down to his level and suckerpunch him. He already answered the bell once with Cookie, and with his team up by 6 freaking goals, what did he have to gain by fighting again? Plus the refs fucked this game with all the penalties when the game was 5-2, wouldn't have been such a brawl if they hadn't made 4 bullshit calls in a row against the Canucks to put the game outta reach. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 3:46pm

If you're going to be delivering "borderline" hits, you have to expect some retribution. I agree that Bertuzzi went overboard and agree he should be dealt with accordingly. On the other hand, Moore put himself in a position that looked to be begging for a good beating. Going on the ice when the team who's number one guy you concussed weeks ago is down 7-2 or whatever it was at that point...what do you think is going to happen?
Cooke didn't get the job done. That guy couldn't punch his way out of a coconut cream pie.
Enter Bertuzzi. Damn I would have liked to have seen a toe-to-toe fight between those two! A fair beating would have been so much more satisfying. That cheap shot left me feeling a little ill.
Fracture his neck while he's facing you. Now that's some tough shit! - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 3:58pm

Knifeghost, Moore side stepped to sucker check Naslund when he didnt have the puck and was going full speed ( no penalty assesed either ),which gave Nas a concussion and 15 stitches to the face, knocked him out of play for 9 days which resulted in 2 Avs players taking over his spot as #1 Point Leader in the NHL.

What is with the refs? They are obviously one sided. There were so many weak calls in favour of the Avs, that included like four 5 on 3's in total I think for the Avs?

May scores a goal, mouths off to the goalie, gets a 10 minute Misconduct?
Hedberg shoots the puck which deflects off a glove over the boards, gets a penalty?
Aebischer throws his stick at the puck, gets no penalty?

hey , what about Worrel trying to spear May in the face while he was sitting on the bench?

Id say, the refs need to stop being so one sided for the super star american teams. Did you see last week against the Wings, Linden, one of the nicest most honest players in the league, Players Assoc. President even, says to the ref " Would you have called that if it had been Yzerman?" after a weak call.. So the Ref gives the Canucks a Bench Penalty. For a question. A smart ass question, but thats all it was.

The officiating has gotten stupid in the NHL, and not just in this case, but all over the league. In some cases the ref's ego's get in the way of their judgement.

Still, doesnt justify Berts cheap shot, but these players get frustrated, and when the ref's hand the Avs umpteen powerplays in a row, shit is going to hit the fan. - Tue, 9 Mar 2004 4:07pm

*insert sarcasm* What? Hockey players are violent ? this is news to me I thought the game was based only on speed and talent I had nooooo idea that people get hurt playing it *end sarcasm*

I think if you wanna dish it out you better expect to get it back twice as bad. Some guys stay away from fights (like #99 did) and they don't get hurt. Simple as that right? its not like he didn't have something coming his way (sure it was brutal and over the top but definitely not unexpected) - Wed, 10 Mar 2004 3:49pm

In a game so riddled with violence, and with the score so out of reach, Moore had no buisness on the ice unless it was to drop the gloves with someone other than Matt Cooke. Skating around the ice ignoring the Canucks challenges to fight is like waiving fresh meat in front of a rabid dog. Its a cheeky move by Granato and Moore. Bertuzzi snapped because the frustration over the score, coupled with Moore skating around ignoring him, boiled over. It was a brutal cheapshot that doesnt belong in hockey. Its official, Bertuzzi is gone for the rest of the year and the entire playoffs and the canucks were fined $250 000. I think this is fair punishment, though Im now concerned about how the league is going to handle future suspensions. This however doesnt change my thoughts surrounding Moore's broken neck being partially Bertuzzi's fault, partially Granato's fault, and partially his own fault. Oh wait and also partially dumbass Nikolishin's fault cause he jumped on Bertuzzi as they went down which is what actually caused the whole "ramming his face into the ice" situation. - Thu, 11 Mar 2004 2:41am

Any of ya'll hear about that gladiator-like hockey some guy wants to start? It's gonna be just like boxing, but with former NHL goons in full hockey pads on an ice rink. Personally i think its a great idea, a quarter of hockey fans only go for the fights anyway. - Thu, 11 Mar 2004 1:11pm

One person that's been uncharacteristically quiet about this whole thing is Don (my neck is held in place by my shirt collars) Cherry. Hockey is being sold to the Excited States of Amerrika not as a game of speed and fine stick handling but for its violence. Sure it's a phsyical game but it's never been so important as it has since the expansion took place. I want to hear Don Cherry explain how a player who's not French or European and who was wearing a face shield could sustain so much damage from one punch. Maybe he'll shut up about how tough ya have to be to play hockey........uh I doubt it. - Thu, 11 Mar 2004 1:29pm

The question is, why the fuck are they fining the canucks?? They say it's Crawford's fault for not doing enough to prevent this whole situation. Come on - Fri, 12 Mar 2004 3:08pm
