Hey, (one day, hehe)Im gonna be starting up learning some rockabilly slap bass... Anyone know where I can get a cheap, but slappable URB? do any stores in town rent-to-own for a decent price? Any slappers out there able to give me any tips?

Im not looking in investing in a CCB, but then again, I am not wanting to spend a ton of money learning on a godly bass... A middle-of-the-range to low end one... Any help?

Try any place that rents band instruments to schools. L&M etc. avoid tempo trend.

Look in the yellow pages under musical instruments.

P.S. Drop me a line when you get hooked up, I wouldn't mind jamming on some Rockabilly stuff. I've been learning licks in that style and have always enjoyed the sound since I was a kid. Check out the Aussie band The Living End. They veer in that direction when they aren't playing punk inspired rock. - Fri, 2 Jan 2004 12:23pm

Rock-a-billy sucks. No, wait; music sucks...umm...
Tune into Seattles KEXP (via the 'net) every Friday from 6pm-9pm for some rippin'hillbilly and "rockabilly" set's. really a great selection of stuff; "Shake the shack" be the name....love it.
_Real_ slap bass ala' stand-up is hard work...hurts like fuk too. Just learn how to perch atop your doghouse first so folk won't notice any sketchy technique. Tip; super glue was invented by the US army for repairing wounds in the field...great for toughening your mitts too.
Good luck. - Fri, 2 Jan 2004 6:20pm

I've heard its hard as fuck, but its something I'm really looking into, cause I love psychobilly (if you havent noticed) and I know a few people who wouldnt mind starting a psycho band, but no one plays slap-urb, so its just not the same... So, I thought, what the hell, I wanna try. By the way, Hoffa, when I start up, I'll give ya a shout...
