Mickey D's Assrott User Info... | eight bucks for an all ages show! trust the "hardcore" scene for price inflation. I'm straight-edge but not THAT sx. I know you suburban clowns are gonna whine about how you have to pay the bands and this and that, but I know for a fact you don't have to charge $8 to get the job done. - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 3:13pm
Teste Coils User Info... | dude, $8 is only $8, thats not even $2 a band... - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 4:32pm
Broccoli User Info... | yeah, get a fuck'n job you snotnosed lil shit - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 4:39pm
Josh Nails User Info... | Gotta love anonymous shit talkers. Last I heard, we live on an island and you have to take the ferry to get here, so it costs bands a minimum of $100 to get here on back depending whether they hide people or not. When was the last time you put on a show with 4 touring bands that were only playing one show on the island. - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 5:18pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | thats wiggedy whack. - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 5:45pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | A show like this would have probably been about $5 in '82 (judgeing by show posters i've seen from that era) adjusting for inflation at roughly 2% a year (our targeted rate in Canada) would make that 5 x 1.02^21 (thats the price in 1982 times the inflation rate to the power of the number of years differnce) = $7.58 So your being charged 42 cents more then the price of inflation for this show. Now most products on the Canadian price index have gone up more then the said 2 percent a year, so I don't really think you have too much to complain about. In other words don't make me look up the change in gas costs, average/min wages, and general food costs, hall costs and PA rental costs over thoes 21 years just to prove your whiney bitch. If a show like this is too expencive for you just go watch your little brother practice drums in your garage. - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 5:49pm
Rain Storm User Info... | Considering half of the bands are out of town (and aren't even from the country) I am not surprised about the $8 price, which is not much for that bill. Do you ever go to the movie theatre to see a movie for two hours? Thats over $8 most of the time. People are travelling all the way here to play and they should get at least their food and gas paid for. Not to mention the ferry fare. Since you know about the show now and its a few weeks away, I am sure you can put a side a dollar here and there every other day and by the time the show rolls around, bingo you have your $8. Enough said, this is a useless topic!! - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 6:22pm
Criss Crass User Info... | The price of the show has nothing to do with the "harcore scene" pushing up the prices. Been to a show lately? The average is about $5-$10 for any kind of music and normally your watching local bands. You must be a major cheap ass to complain about that. Then trying to blame it on one the harcore scene that's even worse. Sucka! - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 9:09pm
Teste Coils User Info... | well, to be fair, the last few shows there were like $5, $6... adn a $4 i think... anyways...I can see where you are coming from... But you do gotta consider the out-of-towners thing... Just hit the show man! - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 9:20pm
Matt User Info... | $8? wow oh no! don't forget the (theoretical) job of being a hardcore fan: 100 bands from around the world are to play in your city. all of them are the world's best hardcore bands. every label represented, every hardcore subgenre present. the venue is the best all-ages venue in the world. tickets are $1.00. it is your job to go around saying the festival should be free. merry christmas - Wed, 24 Dec 2003 11:39pm
kittykat666 User Info... | support the scene! 8$ for a show is nothing.... think back over the years in victoria the average show has always been 5$ a few extra aint gonna make that much of a difference, besides what josh said is true, bands have to pay a chunk of money to get here on the ferry, and for touring DIY bands that can be tough...... hell, i'll pay 12$ to see a good mix of bands!!!!!! (of course this is within reason, if you're local keep it reasonable) - Thu, 25 Dec 2003 10:32am
k.k. downing User Info... | if you charged 4 bucks way more people would show up and you'd have a "successful" alll ager as opposed to the usual almost empty room with siound bouncing off the empty walls. just a thought - Thu, 25 Dec 2003 11:02am
jason User Info... | mmm...cheap and stupid. I hear the ladies really like that comination. just sit at home and jerk off on the big 8 bux you saved...mongo. - Thu, 25 Dec 2003 2:53pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | The same number of people goto shows if you charge 1 doller or 5 dollers or 5 dollers to 8 dollers. The difference in numbers is not made up by the loss in $$. Any promoter will tell you that their numbers don't differ too much depending on what is charged for the show (within reason). For the "Local" all ages community there's only so many kids that come out to the shows, this includeds local bands and indie touring artists. There is almost never more then 200 people at these shows, usually the numbers range from 50-80 for small shows to 120-180 for large shows. - Thu, 25 Dec 2003 3:27pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Jesus are you kidding? $8 is chump change for bands from out of town. - Thu, 25 Dec 2003 9:39pm
*GKdc User Info... | I think what you meant to say was, $8 for a four touring band bill? Wow, what a steal. Leave it to the hardcore scene to start bringng in AWESOME HC shows for all-ages to see. Were you at Himsa in June? Modernlifeiswar and Dragnet in July? Undying and Misery Signals in August? Takaru in October? Hope Against in November? Each of those shows was awesome. Brian, Josh, JAy and Mike are trying their VERY BEST to put Victoria on the map for touring HC bands. These shows have the potential of costing these guys their rent money each and every time. All for what? So you can moan about how "expensive" its gotten? Fuck you. Don't come. Sit at home and whine about how the HC scene is lame and blah blah blah. I'm sure it's nothing that hasn't been said before. Of course, next year, when these guys get tired of losing money just to bring over bands that nobody appreciates, don't forget to be the first one posting about how lame the HC scene in Victoria is. - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 6:22am
glenn tipton User Info... | i personally dont care re: how much $ really - i'm only thinkin of the crustie punk who does. keep prices as low as possible, and more people will show - hc shows are not for making $ sorry if this offends..... - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 7:36am
ROSS B AY User Info... | heard of the ferry sonny? it isn't free. - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 8:01am
Lurker User Info... | hc shows are not for losing $ either. - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 8:18am
ML7Mike User Info... | Misery Signals and Himsa alone were worth double what the admission fee was for each show. Most of these touring bands have vans with trailers. I know that when we drive on the ferry with our van, trailer and 5 guys, its $150 one way. So bank on it costing each band $300 just to get on and off the island, not including gas or accomadations or food. Many bands lease their vehicle too, which means each show has to profit even slightly just to cover lease fees. $8 x 100 kids = $800. If two bands have come over the ferry, thats $600 gone just to cover their ferry fare. That leaves a whopping $100 profit for each band, and the promoter still has to pay for the venue, the posters, the PA, the band's rider, etc. - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 12:46pm
BOHDAN User Info... | so your straigt edge and can't afford $8 , what did you do spend all your money on gay porn again? - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 2:08pm
Teste Coils User Info... | hey, bohdan... damn good point! - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 10:16am
Nik Olaz User Info... | man you guys need to get Throwdown to come here. - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 11:04am
bryn User Info... | Let's keep in mind that $8 is only one hour's work at minimum wage... hardly unaffordable for at least 4 hours of entertainment. - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 5:38pm
josh User Info... | Well for those of us who arnt sxe thats 8 bucks for the show plus another 10 at least for booze, and then if you want a couple joints thats another 10. and so the show that originaly 8 bucks has now costs me almost 30 bucks - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 9:25pm
Lurker User Info... | Actually the show still only costs $8, and you make it almost $30 all by yourself. - Sat, 27 Dec 2003 10:09pm
Pierce User Info... | ummm 10 $ for weed? 10$ for booze? jesus arent you the big PARTAY-ER...watch out! - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 8:16am
ROSS B AY User Info... | No shit!! 30 dollars? Oh my, don't break the bank richie rich!!! Hahahahahahaha...... - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 8:21am
Ryan_Cynic User Info... | Josh has a point..... By the time I buy a 26 of J.D. , A quarter ounce of weed ,an eight ball of crack and a couple of hookers...well shit that will be a $700 night. Fuck man better make the show $7. Or maybe I'll just smoke one last doob. Show prices should be even more than they are now. 10-12- even 15 bucks for really kik ass bands. They WILL pay. - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 9:52am
el fuckface-o User Info... | i spend $700 on coke, booze and hookers without blinking. however, i would never pay more than $1 to see any local bands. the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. going by that $1 is almost more like a charitable donation for any victoria "band". and for those whining about the ferry, if you can't handle a measily $200 to travel here with your lame band to play for 30 people, stay in hongcouver and get hooked on meth, freebase and heroin instead. - Sun, 28 Dec 2003 4:19pm
