| Fools in Love User Info... | Tripwyre - I ran the Youth Centre out in Langford for 8-9 years and we put on a number of shows (about 50) and saw bands from all over North America - many of you saw shows there - my pick for the best show was done by Nothing to Lose but one of the bands which really stood out for me was Tripwyre. This was a band which had, Brandon, correct me, 9-10 members - three horns - two guitars etc etc but their onstage mix was incredible - here was a band which had an amazing scense of their volume relative to each other - I regret not having seen them live again - amazing band! - Fri, 26 Dec 2003 9:30pm | ||

| Akylore User Info... | Hmmmm...man this has made me realize that I've lived on the Island for like 10 years now, first moved to Vic in '94, so I've seen a lot of shit since then. But I'll try to recoup and list the stuff I enjoyed all around.... HUDSON MACK: Fun shit when I wasn't old enough to go to bar shows, I remember seeing them with M-BLANKET and they put on a good show too. Oh yeah, NOTHING TO LOSE was good stuff live back then as well. Unfortunately I don't think I ever caught BLACK KRONSTADT back in the day... DAYGLO ABORTIONS: C'mon, nothing more to say. Legendary. Saw 'em again at the Cambie in Nanaimo last Saturday, 'Feed US a Fetus' is one of the most classic albums of all time and will always reign, period. MEATLOCKER7: Never was big on them back in the early 90's era but when we played with them at the Dizzy's Show (Jan 2003) through that sound system I was super impressed. Solid drumming, chunky precise riffs, good shit. Looking forward to hearing them with Death-metal-Dave.... WITHIN A VISION: Saw 'em at Dizzy's and The Cambie, really tight drumming was the highlight and good guitar work too, looking forward to hearing them with their new line-up since then... IMMACULATE INFECTION: Fun, fun shit. I'm only into grind if it's outrageous, and they pulled off that aspect quite well (especially with the spazz vox/blast beat combos and the 'cement brick guitar work' hahaha.....) ISKRA: Probably the only 'crust' (just got aquainted with the term) group I've heard and liked, the mp3's only had a couple elements that grabbed me but when I finally saw them at the Little Fernwood I lost it and moshed immediately. The double vox assault was rad, they seem to make the discordant hardcore sound quite enjoyable to listen to. DESENSITIZED: Again fun shit, 80's style thrash, catchy riffs, not as technical as WITHIN A VISION but for fun thrash it tears. GALLOW'S END: Great blues-ish melodic death metal, again real fun shit to hear at shows and blast at parties. They'll be missed. PARIAH: Again tore it up with the melodic metal sound, their 'At The Gates' cover is appropriate, can definitely hear the influence in their music. Really enjoyed their show with Kataklysm. A bit harsher than GALLOW'S END but similar style. REPULVERIZER: Hilarious shit. I still remember Cruiser breaking his bass string and still playing without stopping at the Dizzy's show, that's fucking metal. I'm looking forward to seeing them again soon... ALLFATHER: A crushing outalsh of black metal, the only problem was that most of the places they played I couldn't hear much of what they were doing (shitty sound guys,) but seeing them at Dizzy's was the prize. Definitely a smooth tight act. (I said ACT, don't get excited). Incidentally, I knew the Crucified Innocence guys, and just so it is known, the best thing about going to their jams was that there were more pretty women there than any other jam I've ever been to. Oh, and I think there was music or something. Why is it that the more a guy looks like a girl, the more the girls chase him? Are they looking for makeup tips or what.
