Ok, so the sweathogz are the best, and the span is unoriginal crap. I think the hogz have achieved something great in combining blues and punk. Come on people! The last and the first band were good, but we actually found ourselves covering our ears for the span. Great show tho, and I hope lucky does another battle in the future. Loved the scull-smoker on the hogz set. fun, fun, fun. - Tue, 2 Dec 2003 10:16pm

I agree... The Span were good, but they need to be a little more tighter, man they could be really successful. There was only a 5 dB point advantage between the two bands, but it's the crowd reponse which made it. - Tue, 2 Dec 2003 10:46pm

Both bands are good.
It's odd that someone would criticize Span for lack of originality, then be all hanging off The Sweathogz collective jock. - Wed, 3 Dec 2003 6:11pm

I thought The Span were the most original band of the night by far, as well as having the best drummer and singer by a mile. The other bands were good too but The Span totally deserved to win. - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 12:02pm

Sweathogs set rocked, I even liked the hockey fight, though it almost spilled onto the dance floor :) But I also liked Making Mischief, that was one of the best sets I've seen, I even mentioned it to a few people. Funny thing is, I could of sworn they would of won :)

BTW: What's up with the arts program at UVic?!? Swear to god, that set sold me :) - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 9:54pm

The Sweathogs rocked! It's too bad they didn't win- too bad for all of us. I didn't hear any of the other bands say that they would spend their winnings on kegs of beer for everybody.
As for the SH being blues/punk- does playing some slide guitar on a few tunes make you a blues band? I think not. As far as I'm concerned, the SH are straight ahead punk. Loud and Proud. Good job guys!
Fully Loaded was quite good too. I've seen them a few times now and they get better and better. Tightest performance i've seen from them.
As for The Span, I didn't care for them at all. Good job on getting all of your loud friends out but I guess I just don't care for that "genre" of music, whatever that may be. I thought the singer had talent (think of that guy in a heavier band) but what was with all the guitar changes. If you own a Parker Fly, why only use it for the first 30 secs of the set? Tuning issues perhaps?
Making Mischief was everything a commercial rock radio station could dream of- good pop rock songs, good frontman, lyrics young people can "relate" to, and just enough edge to not make me hate them. If these guys stay together, I'd be suprised if they don't get a record deal.
Then we can all say we knew them when...

When all is said and done, however, my vote is still for the Sweathogs. - Fri, 5 Dec 2003 11:01am

The Parker Fly broke a string on pretty much the very first note of the set, and his other guitar didn't last very long before that had a broken string too. Nevertheless, we had a blast, and thanks to everybody that came out to support all of the bands, and to Lucky bar and the sponsers for putting on the event. - Sat, 6 Dec 2003 7:35am
