Are these bands the same in any way? No. Maybe it meant something in the 60's or 70's but it is just pointless now. Again, the genre is too big to generalize. | Hang The DJ User Info... | I find there are a lot of similarities shared between classical music and metal... I think classical music, not really by one specific composer, may have aided in the birth of metal... Whoever the "first metal band" was may not have even listened to classical music, but they were exposed to it and other rock music .... so the foundation already existed, they just had to mix the two together. Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly and Zeppelin are usually the ones people will say started metal... Judas Priest kind of lead the genre out of that specific sound... | Cream User Info... | There is a really cool documentary called "A Headbanger's Journey" or something along those lines, and it was actually made by an anthropologist from Victoria. You can find it on youtube. He talks about the roots of metal (sabbath, cream, hendrix, zeppelin, deep purple, etc.) as well as the classical influences such as Wagner and Beethoven.
