I've been noticing lately that it seems lik all ages shows ahve been split into genres alot more. It seems like there used to be shows where hardcore bands, "indy" bands, ska bands ect. all played together. All-ages shows seem to be really divided today, and ska has almost totally died. Although, I wouldnt call that the end of the world. I'm not complaining about this, just wondering why this happened. - Sun, 28 May 2006 6:04pm

I like diverse shows too.
Lets you see that band that normally may not be your genre or style and be like...what the fuck! whoa! damn!

I'd like to see more shows that had a diverse taste, I think they work better too.

i dont think it was always like this. - Sun, 28 May 2006 6:54pm

I agree completely.

Partly it seems like people who go to all agers aren't as interested in branching out from their respective genres as they used to be. I held a show in Dec and when a band playing a different style than the rest hit the stage, the room completely cleared out. That kind of thing discourages promoters from wanting to hold cross-genre shows.

There used to be a lot more ska bands in town. The Hoochy Girls, Ten Too Late, Madd Hatters, Those Rapskallions, The Bloodwarmers all have broken up or haven't played many shows in the past few years. Right now I can only think of One Drop, Combat Wombat, and The Kiltlifters still playing ska here. There is still Skafest this summer though. - Sun, 28 May 2006 10:11pm

There's a downside and an upside to having mixed genre shows.

The Upside is the chance of finding some new bands you maybe wouldnt find out about.

The downside applies both to the band playing and the people there, is that if the band is very different, then (generally speaking here) they probably wont be liked, which could lead to people leaving during there set, which can really be a bummer for the band playing.

With shows of the same genre, then the hope is though, you're going to like the WHOLE show, which can make the experience better.

DAMN, I cant wait for skafest. I remeber going to my first show. I beleive the line up was the hoochy girls, kincaide, The habitat, i think lythic, and some other band I can not remeber. I'm pretty knew to going to shows, but at least then I ended up branching out, it was the first time I ahd seen ska live, and I realized why it was so much fun. i didn't really appreciate Kincaide as much then as I do now, but it just exposed me to alot of different stuff. Since the scene was smaller then(then being jsut two or three years ago) different genres seemed to have to work together to put on a show. A few years ago there wasnt 450 people at a show (theset). Although, today, so many people are coming to shows, I like how its not so elititst, and way more peopel are getting turned onto local music. - Sun, 28 May 2006 10:25pm

So many people are coming to CERTAIN shows.

With a CERTAIN genre being played.

That should also be pointed out. - Mon, 29 May 2006 12:17am
