ricky jak User Info... | Dang I've seen alot of great bands the radio never plays! Why the hell does the Q 100 just play Nickleback over and over again. And why the hell does the Zone just play Metric over and over again? Why do radio stations feel the nessecety to play a good song bad. In the movie a Clockwork Orange they exposed a man to something good.... ahhh not good but something he likes, over and over again untill it makes him sick. I have the fortune of working in a shop that gets two radio stations the Zone and The Q. We alternate when the gaging starts from the over-played hits. I know thier is a reason for your playlist.... but any chance of a non-repeat workday from either of you two fine stations? Talk to me Ed Bain or Jeremy Barker. CKDA NO WAY! -ricky JaK - Sun, 14 May 2006 9:59pm Edited: Sun, 14 May 2006 10:03pm
Endeløs User Info... | I can not count the number of radios I've destroyed upon hearing the opening of "Combat Baby" by Metric. I'd rather be subjected to an hour of stand-up comedy by Dave Coulier than hear that song. Dreadful band. - Sun, 14 May 2006 10:21pm

_Griphin_ User Info... | I've often wondered why Jeremy doesn't mix local music with mainstream when he does his afternoon show on The Zone. Good thing he's done Capital Rock City for this long (awesome for the local INDependant musicianz), but hardly anyone listens to that PODCast show, it would be cool hearing, say, "Pequod-Raise the Flag That's Awesome" mixed in with mainstream music on his afternoon show, he needs to take that next step and start playing more local INDependant on The Zone (yeah, like that will ever happen). I'd bitch more about that, but there's no way I'll ever do local radio myself, so my bitching falls on mute ears, I guess. - Mon, 15 May 2006 11:18am Edited: Mon, 15 May 2006 12:41pm
ML7Mike User Info... | I always try and tune in 99.9 if I can get it ( if that local french station doesnt drown it out ) but I did hear Judas Priest on The Q the other day.. - Mon, 15 May 2006 1:57pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | The songs that get played on the mainstream radio, are mainstream bands and they are mainstream because most people want to hear them most of the time. I can see why listening to the Zone all day could make it seem like we play songs over and over, but two things: 1) We do repeat less than many other mainstream stations. 2) The songs that are featured in heavy rotations are also requested endlessly. As ihn, I can not play them enough. Mike I dig KISW too! Ricker is one of my favourite announcers... I can do without the AC/DC on that station, but I put up with it to hear the show. BJ Shea is solid too. If you are a local band and you are wondering how to be a mainstream band, talk to The Zone's music director James Sutton and leave him your disc. [email protected] . He'll be happy to listen and give an honest answer on where your band is headed in regards to The Zone. - Mon, 15 May 2006 6:35pm

You Enjoy Myself User Info... | Ok, I listen to The Zone pretty much all day at work. Granted, they repeat a number of songs per day and do play a lot of shitty music, but they're one of the better stations I've listened to. It seems like you get a good long stretch of music before it's interupted by commercials or DJ banter. And even the DJ banter is far better than on other stations. I mean just last week, my coworker and I phoned in and let Dave Sawchuk know that a pubic wig is called a Merkin, and he talked about it intermittently for the remainder of the show. I would also like to hear some more local music being played, but I think the majority of people in the listening area wouldn't recognize it, and might be turned off by it. But I'd love to hear some Immaculate Machine, Kincaide or theset get played. Counting Heartbeats is a start though... As for The Q, it's a classic rock station. So of course you're gonna get pretty much all the standards all the time, with a shitty new song from a shitty new band every now and then. I grew up listening to Rock 101, and listened to The Q for a while too, and I don't think I'll ever listen to a classic rock station again. - Mon, 15 May 2006 7:14pm Edited: Mon, 15 May 2006 7:15pm
ricky jak User Info... | Thanks Jeremy Its funny because i DJ'd a punk type wedding one night and filled it with underground classics and was soon to realize the mainstream hits are the ones that make people dance. Mainstream is what the people want. Jeremy why don't you come over for a pot of coffee and we'll listen to Black Flags Damaged album for 2 days straight then we'll do two days of Metric. Just kiddin around. love -ricky JaK - Mon, 15 May 2006 9:38pm Edited: Mon, 15 May 2006 9:45pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Nobody can't do without AC/DC on their station, for shame Jeremy, for shame!!! :) Listening to Damaged for 2 days Ricky Jak?!? I doubt I've ever done that, though you should listen to Micky Christ for 2 days, I'm totally up for that!!! Ahhhh... new Bif Naked video, must... find... remote!!! - Tue, 16 May 2006 1:28am Edited: Tue, 16 May 2006 1:31am

Joni User Info... | While I'm all for the support of local music in any way, shape, or form, I think it's important to realize that the primary purpose of mainsream radio is to play mainstream music. Those stations serve the masses, and the majority of the listening population tend to be content with hearing those same popular songs over and over again, regardless of how overplayed or unoriginal they may seem to the more discerning music fan. If you want to hear more independent music, you've got to check out a more independent source. There are a whole bunch of great shows on CFUV that are really supportive of the local scene, CBC radio 3, KEXP, etc. Granted, for those who listen to the radio at work these are not always practical options (for example, r3 broadcasts from midnight until 4am), but in my (admittedly rather biased) opinion the quality and variety of music you'll hear on these stations is far more appealing than what you'll hear on commercial station x. - Tue, 16 May 2006 11:00am

SickFuk User Info... | The worst thing about this whole thread is that it put that stupid fucking song "Video killed the radio star" in my head.... get it out god damn it..... But anyways... I'm surprised none have mentioned CHLY radio yet... Far Beyond Metal and the Metal Zone... the only thing I find sucks about them is I'm never home to listen to them... They play everything from Black Sabbath to Meatlocker 7 to Boltthrower... Other than that, I really can't think of any radio I'd rather listen to other than my mp3 collection...
