Message Board > Music Chitchat - Heavy > How to bootleg a concert? |
The Box Drone User Info... | So I'm seriously considering bootlegging a concert at GM place I'm going to see next month... I have a great little Minidisk recorder & I'm thinking about picking up a fancy little mic before the show too... Problem is, I REALLY don't want to have my stuff confiscated at the door, or worse, get turned away from the concert (i think the ticket cost more than the minidisc recorder! fucking ticketmaster)! So anyways, the question is... if you were going to smuggle some recording equipment into a concert, how would you do it? I'm thinking about stuffing it my underpants, but maybe there's a better way? - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 2:45pm
Nat User Info... | its like sneaking in pot: if your a chick use your bra, if your a guy yeah underwear. Dont think putting it in your sock will work. - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 5:09pm
MURDALIZER User Info... | Personally, I like to "HOOP" objects when smuggling, or go to the concert with someone who is "Mentally Challenged" and get them to "mule" it in for you. Seriously your joking right? Bootlegs usually sound like shit, too much ambient noise, can't hear the music. Some drunkin "Mooncalf" yelling, "PLAY SOME SKYNNARD". Not worth the risk. - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 6:07pm
lonemonk User Info... | Crotching it is the only way to go. It aint comfortable, but it's one of the few places a bouncer isn't supposed to grab. Most mini-discs are small enough to do this with. This site has a few tips on avoiding detection and the possible consequences: http://www.sonicstudios.com/tapertip.htm At the door, it isn't possible for them to confiscate your gear. Outside all they can do is refuse you entry. If you get caught INSIDE that might be a different story. They are obliged to give it back after the show, possibly without the media if thats what happened. If the find it and hastle you, go back to your car and stash it, and then go into the show without it. At a very big venue, re-crotch the device and try a different entrance/door person. One last thing: The minidisc likely cannot set the record level low enough for the killer volumes of a stadium gig. Its often wise to plug the mic into the Linein rather than the Mic input. By doing so the recording will be much quieter, but it will not be massively distorted like it might be otherwise. Basically this is like putting a -20db pad in front so that it doesn't get overwhelmed. - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 6:14pm
The Box Drone User Info... | Thank you mr lonemonk, exactly the kind of info I was looking for! - Fri, 28 Oct 2005 10:36am
lonemonk User Info... | No problem. Mobile recording is one of my passions. I typically like keeping my recorders smelling 'fresh', but sometimes it just can't be helped... - Fri, 28 Oct 2005 4:23pm
Inhalien User Info... | I have a minidisc, gen 1, from Japan I'm thinking of selling. If you can get it in, the stereo Aiwa dual condenser records really nice, pinned to the shoulder. Recorded Tragically Hip in Vic all right, - Sat, 29 Oct 2005 9:45pm
