nevin User Info... | Anyone here go to UVic or know anyone who does? I might be going to UVic next year and I have a few questions about the sort of 'lifestyle/music scene' in the area. I'm from Toronto, so I'm not expecting there to be too much going on, but I was just wondering what the scene is like there, or if there even is one? I have been looking around online and all I can really find in the area are punk bands and Nickelback-esque bands. That's a little scarey. Any info would be good though, I can live without shows, I would just like to ask a few questions from a local. So ya, it's a hard decision, so just looking for some info since I don't know anyone out there and I would be venturing into the unknown. P.S. Your city is freakin beautiful, I was there the last few nights. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 7:09am
XJAyX User Info... | What kind of music are you into?? There is a lot goign on here, not as much as TO I'm sure, but of course, it depends what you want to see. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 8:40am
donkey User Info... | For its size, id say victoria has an excellent music scene. I cant think of one Nickelback style band, but we got punk. The jazz scene has some really good stuff, and theres a rock band for every sub genre you ever wanted. i never really liked the folk scene here, and im to young to go to the bars, but honestly, i went to an all ager in toronto, and i like the victoria bands more. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 8:53am
nevin User Info... | i'm into everything, predominately indie type stuff. maybe you could suggest a few bands to check out? if it helps, some of the bands i like to see over here are the constantines, broken social scene, typical toronto stuff. final fantasy, royal city, apostle of hustle. but ya, i'm asking just because i have no clue what the music scene is like in victoria, so if you could recommend some bands to check out it would be most appreciated. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 9:11am
wheate User Info... | Nevin, if you can get to a Chet show, you will enjoy, they opened for a few Arcade Fire shows and the recent Weakerthans/Constantines show here, very nice indeed. Another band that is makin waves is Immaculate Machine, who I believe is playing on Canada day somewhere, maybe Logans. Another show that will be sure to please that is comong up is the Uncut/Sylvie/Wintersleep show at lucky on July 8th, very impressed with what Ive heard so far. So yeah man, there are shows here to see, the scene isnt gonna blow you away or anything but more and more good bands are coming all the time. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 9:35am
nevin User Info... | Thanks a lot, I'll be sure to check those bands out. I won't be able to get out to those shows, since I was just visiting the school and I'm home now, but it's good to hear that if I end up out there next year there is lots going on. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 9:52am

Joni User Info... | If you dig BSS, you would probably also like black tie social. And given Victoria's size, we've got a damn good music scene here. We don't get as many big shows because of our smallish population and the fact that we're on an island, but there's enough great stuff happening locally to make up for it. To tell the truth, I actually like the scene in Victoria better than in Toronto, especially when it comes to all-ages shows. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 4:00pm
