The Box Drone User Info... | Do they buy stuff? I've never seen anything there that didn't look brand new, so are they really picky about the shineyness of their used stuff? Do they pay decent prices? Do you get better value on trade? - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 1:00pm
Detroit Velvet Smooth User Info... | they did take trades at one time for sure. not sure about now. but you are better off selling privately and trade in at last resort. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 1:04pm
Ian johnson User Info... | all the messy stuff is in the back room, possibly waiting for a new owner to be looking for it - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 7:10pm

Dave S User Info... | Yeah man, I've bought used gear from them twice, and both times I brought it back and exchanged for something brand new. I'm talking about effects, accessories, etc. They rent out a lot of stuff too, and sell that as well, so technically, it is used. I've seen a few used amps there for decent prices, but yes, you are better off shopping around. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 9:37pm
Uzer User Info... | Do they have any used synths? - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 12:06pm
duncan User Info... | there was an amp there that wasnt a marshall, but had a marshall plaque attatched to the front.. they were selling it for like $400 which seemed like a steal for a marshall but it wasnt.. buyer beware i guess, happens everywhere. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 12:35pm
Foxtrot User Info... | "there was an amp there that wasnt a marshall, but had a marshall plaque attatched to the front.. they were selling it for like $400 which seemed like a steal for a marshall but it wasnt.. " Dumcan. Anyone who buys a cabinet for the plaque, deserves to be taken for a fool. Any proper musician knows that any cab can have any speakers in it. I have a piece of shit cab filled with deadly Celestions in it. I would sell it for 400$. I also have a proper Marshall cab, both have same speakers, and both are valued the same, 400$. The cabinet which holds the speakers means nothing. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 1:41pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | No dude, its' allll aboot the label on the front yo! You know them old metal style PEAVEY pointy metal things they used to have on the front of theys cabs? That ups the price at least 20 bucks. Maybe even 25. Like jeans. By the way I'm fuggin' joking, yer right about that. I dropped 4 Peavey Scorpions into an old marshall ripped up cab and its' the best thing I've ever played. Problem is, the speakers cost more than the whole used cab with old celestions in it! Worth it though - almost. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 2:01pm
Brumy User Info... | no..Long and Mquade sucks for selling stuff back...they arnt any good for buying used stuff cause they never have anything good...i tradfed in my RPX400...baught it for 400$ a year ago..sold it for 120$ last week.. I just baught a Boss Metal Pedal for 100$ a few weeks ago. sold it to Lng and Mquade 2 days ago for 35$..so no they are terrible - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 2:34pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Bought. And the lesson is, sell privately... Unless the money isn't a big deal, or you're desperate enough for it to sell for their price..... - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 3:27pm
[+} User Info... | "I just baught a Boss Metal Pedal for 100$ a few weeks ago. sold it to Lng and Mquade 2 days ago for 35$..so no they are terrible" you'll notice that they are selling it for 50 or 60 dollars. it's called cost margins. and also the fact that every kid wants a metalzone or whatever. - Sat, 4 Jun 2005 8:41am
duncan User Info... | i wasn't saying that i buy gear for the brand, but don't you think it's kind of irresponsible to sell something under a false pretense? its false advertising... or something like that. - Sat, 4 Jun 2005 12:54pm
lonemonk User Info... | I've only ever sold (or traded) a handful of used items to L&M, but I've bought a bunch of good used shit from them. I'm not sure they're in the same biz of used gear that they were in the old location, but I'm still using stuff daily that I got there at a decent price 4-5 years ago. I like the suggestion mentioned above about renting, and then buying gear. I thought they had a pretty good policy on that. Don't just buy it 'cause its cool; But if you rent something and find it is crucial to what you do then go in and negotiate the terms. L&M is often the only place that will give credit terms to vermin like us! . - Sat, 4 Jun 2005 9:12pm
The Box Drone User Info... | Well my particular case is such... I really want a microkorg. I'm renting one from them right now... I know it's not gods greatest shit, but it suits my needs to a T. The rental unit I have has a $450 used price tag on the box. I have an SP-808 sampler with an $1800 L&M price tag on it (the tag could be as old as 1998 though). I don't expect to be able to sell it privately for anymore than $500-600, but if they feel the same way, then I'd be lucky to get $200 for it, which would be pathetic for something that once cost $1800 and is still a kick ass machine. I suppose I could save myself a whole lot of head scratching by just going in and asking them though... Oh, and how does there rent to own thingy work anyways? If you rent, do you get a deal if you want to buy it? or is that something you have to set up when you rent it? - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 9:36am
cooper User Info... | If it's the same as it used to be in their old location, 60% of what you've paid while renting goes towards the purchase. If you don't get it sold privately, see if you can trade your 808 straight up for the microKorg. - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 10:23am
The Box Drone User Info... | Thanks Coop, I'll try that. - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 11:13am
Brendan User Info... | We do buy used gear, but we do so at what is generally refered to as a "used wholesale" price. We are also totally upfront with what the street value of an item is, and what we would like to sell it for. If you have something you want to sell to us, or sell privately and need an appraisal, just bring it in! The only catch is we can't quote over the phone, but you can always call ahead if you have questions. Thanks! - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 12:03pm
The Box Drone User Info... | Thanks Brendan... one more question... do you generally get more for trading in than for selling? - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 1:51pm
Little Red User Info... | I apologize in advance if this has already been said but ere goes: Just remember that when you sell gear to a retailer you are acting as a wholesaler. The retailer will have to clean the item up, take a chance it will sit on the shelf for a while, warranty it and still sell it for market value. If you want market value for your gear and are willing to wait it out, sell it privately. Either way it will be fair- considering the circumstances. The pros to buying used from a retailer... warranty! (I learned that one when I bought a truck off the lot!) - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 7:48pm
cmct242 User Info... | I am not going to get into the debate, but nobody twisted that guys arm to sell us the gear. - Mon, 6 Jun 2005 3:30pm
Vegas J User Info... | Maybe I missed a section, but I didn't see any used keyboards or recording gear...too bad since I'm looking for some! In the past they always had neat used stuff! - Mon, 6 Jun 2005 6:45pm
Brendan User Info... | Hey Drone. Yes, in general you will get more for trading instead of just selling to us, but it always depends on the situation. One of the advantages to trading as opposed to selling is when you trade, you are taxed only on the difference you will pay. It's a little conviluted, but it translates to getting the trade value plus 14% back.... Which is kinda cool! - Fri, 10 Jun 2005 7:50am
