Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | Death from Above sounds like a good show - But I'd have to say I was thouroughly disappointed by Elizabeth's set at HHH. Their show wasn't as bad as it was over-all generic "post-punk" (the latest copped-out and overused genre phrase lately) which certainly seems to have no shortage in sight. - Thu, 3 Mar 2005 4:24pm
john User Info... | arent hhh post=punk, same with dfa come to think of it... which night did you see of the hhh show, cause the night i saw, elizabeth easily upstaged hot hot heats rusty asses. - Thu, 3 Mar 2005 10:54pm
The One After Two User Info... | post punk is just an adjective... people should worry about it so much. And Elizabeth's disc is pretty innovative to my ears... sorta dance-y. I would some what agree with Jesse, Elizabeth could use more stage presense but the band is still pretty new and a good live show comes with time. I also agree with John as I like the music... meh... and I am wishy washy :-) - Thu, 3 Mar 2005 11:08pm
john User Info... | well you shold come see them april 5th :) - Thu, 3 Mar 2005 11:28pm
Kris User Info... | DFA are pretty un-post askfjnsdkf but i'd say pretty much everything else that is cool right now is pretty "post punk". its not a bad thing, its just a genre description which doesn't really make sense. saying the arcade fire is post punk and then going and saying hot hot heat is post punk is labelling two very different bands as the same thing giving people virtually no idea what they sound like. - Fri, 4 Mar 2005 12:57am
Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | Well genre stamping seems to be a bigger deal than the actual bands that produce it nowadays. I think you have a valid point. Royal city can be called "post punk" as could The Doers - which by the way are both great bands - my point is that bands and fans alike should really stop being so consciousness and stop fucking themselves over with trite and meaningless phrases if it be emo, grunge, Math Rock, Post punk, etc, etc, etc. If a band is good – that’s it…. Unfortunately Elizabeth isn’t worth the hype. Just a simple opinion. If I were to stamp them judged on their CD and live show I'd have to call them "genero-sytho-carbo copy-post redundent-indie-unrock" Though I doubt that'll catch on... PS: nobody should put Arcade Fire and Hot Hot Heat under the same stamp. But that's a different thread altogether. - Fri, 4 Mar 2005 2:49am
Scenesreplayed User Info... | post-punk is the new "alternative" like in the early nineties everything was called alternative. Post-punk is the alternative to the alternative and personally i didnt know elizabeth had much hype other then from this thread. - Fri, 4 Mar 2005 10:41am
The One After Two User Info... | "genero-sytho-carbo copy-post redundent-indie-unrock" Jesse, I like your description, I'm going to start using it, and maybe if everyopne on LiveVic does, then sometime next year when we're all slamming some different genre band, HMV will finally add a genero-sytho-carbo copy-post redundent-indie-unrock section. - Fri, 4 Mar 2005 4:54pm
