PRESS RELEASE

FEBRUARY 16, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE CITY-WIDE TSUNAMI RELIEF BENEFIT SERIES RAISES
$5040.00
FOR THE CANADIAN RED CROSS!

HUSH ˆ STEAMER‚S ˆ SUGAR ˆ LOGAN‚S ˆ CENTRAL ˆ LEGENDS ˆ UPSTAIRS ˆ LUCKY ˆ DIEGO'S ˆ DARCY'S

The City-Wide Tsunami Relief Benefit Series is now complete! Encompassing ten live music venues across the city of Victoria, and featuring over 35 individual musical acts, the series which took place from February 3rd to February 13th of 2005 raised $5040.00 for The Canadian Red Cross to support their efforts to provide immediate aid and long-term assistance to communities affected by this disaster! Overall attendance for the series is estimated at approximately 900 - 1000 people.

Series organizers Liam Lux, Dimitri Demers, and Scott Laming consider the series to be a success in many ways.....

„It has been an amazing example of cooperation and effort by a large group of people ranging from musicians to venue owners, and as far as we know, nobody else has done this. There have been hundreds, probably thousands of events around the world to raise money for those affected by the Tsunami just over a month ago, but to the best of our knowledge Victoria is the only place that has pulled together a coordinated city-wide series of events.

A note on proceeds:

The proceeds from this series have been donated directly to the Red Cross of Canada. Every performer volunteered their time and talent. The organizers did not apply any administrative fees, and promotional costs were covered through sponsorship by Atomique Productions, Bosevus Productions, Metropol, Live Victoria, Monday Magazine, Nexus, The Zone 91.3fm, CFUV 101.9fm, and Canada Instant Print. Almost all technical production costs were covered by the hosting venues respectively.

The Red cross will use the funds provided for both immediate aid and long-term assistance in the relief, rehabilitation, and recovery phases of the disaster and will continue to work in the affected communities for years to come. After the initial relief phase, the Red Cross will shift the emphasis from direct aid to identification and support of community resources to rebuild for the longer term, including counseling, education, medical services and community health.
