Lots of good metal bands here. Check the show listings. Check out the Thrones of Ashes in the next few weekends and the Ungoliant(black metal), Mitochondrion(death metal), and The Dead Shall Rise (melodic death metalcore from Calgary but still damn good) show on the 25th.

just browse the band listings. More or less all are really good. - Tue, 8 Feb 2005 3:37pm

Awesome metal scene in Vic.

Enchanted Faeries (Extremely tight deathgrind)
Mitochondrion (Technical grind)
Seasons Of Sorrow (Epic Progressive Medieval Metal) - my band.
Grimlorn (Black Metal)
Allfather (War Metal)
Meatlocker Seven (Groovy Death metal)
Throne Of Ashes
Desensitized (Thrash Metal)
Abuse Of Power
Hunting Humans (Melodic Death metal)

lots more too. Victoria was the home of Three Inches oF Blood, now signed to Roadrunner. Pretty decent sized metal scene for a relatively small city.

Iskra is just a lousy punk band. Ungoliant is NOT blackmetal; I repeat, is NOT blackmetal. Acting Ensign is a technical deathmetal band. - Wed, 9 Feb 2005 12:07pm

uhm j/k. Acting Ensign are power metal.

uhm j/k again. Iskra is a so-so punk band. Ungoliant is influenced by the northern plains. Acting Ensign play the only type of music .. SLOW HARD. - Wed, 9 Feb 2005 12:10pm

Sounds like a good number of metal bands. I'm most in to speed death/black metal stuff.
The problem is theres never any faster blasting drummers around to jam with. In calgary I think there were only small handfull.
Victoria is way smaller so i bet i'm out of luck huh? - Wed, 9 Feb 2005 12:24pm

Other Vic metal acts:

Peruke (power violence / death metal)
Sick (sludge metal)
Self Inflicted (metalcore)

There are a number of superfast drummers here too (though machines are the best way to go if you really want some speed).

Per capita I would argue that Victoria has the densest musician to population ratio of just about anywhere in the world. It definitely wouldn't surprise me of Victoria has way more active musicians than Calgary despite being much smaller in size.

there's as many metal bands and a stronger scene in Victoria than in Calgary. There are local bands here that draw more people than Cryptopsy did when we opened for them at The Underground last Sept.

Calgary has some good bands but for Alberta, Edmonton seems to be the better of the two for overall scene..

alot of good drummers in Vic but most of them get scooped up real quick! - Wed, 9 Feb 2005 1:16pm

"Sludge Metal"... I like that...{:)

But seriously, Victoria may not have the population... but we have some pretty dedicated metalheads around here...

If you're looking for a psycho-drummer... check out DMD from Gorilla Monsoon... he's fucking nutz on his kit

Yep, Victoria's seen a ton of really good metal acts come thru this town. Bands like: DreadNaut (I'm gonna remix that demo cause my first attempt blew, although I listened to it the other day and it sounded awesome, wierd), Explosive Rage Disorder, Gallows End, as well as Armoros and Demonation. - Wed, 9 Feb 2005 1:23pm
