couple questions about pickups,
i have a strat and i'm getting a tele
and i'm thinking about changing the pickups,

on the strat i'm looking for hendrix or
surfy dick dale tones, anyone know any good
pickups for this?

right now i have gold lace sensors on the
middle and neck, they are solid but i think
i want something hotter, did stevie
ray actually use texas specials? or was
it something else?

And for the tele, i'm looking for radiohead
type tones, anyone know what
the lead guitarist for radiohead uses?
i'm basically just looking for any
info and any suggestions/recommendations
of pickups that anyone likes

oh and lastly, would my seymour duncan
59 humbucker sound any good on
a real les paul? or an epiphone LP?
I've jsut never heard of seymours
being used on gibsons

thanks a lot,

Ah, the magic bullet for guitars, the replacement pickup. Duncans are very good as are the Lace Sensors. A warning here; if you want the Hendrix sound you will either need a Dick Dale strat or a left handed Strat turned upside down. This is because the pickup is slanted backwards (duh) which emphasises the bass. Also remeber that all the pickups in the world are wasted on a lousy amp. Or player. - Fri, 28 Jan 2005 12:42pm

I have the same guitar as Jonny Greenwood, lead guitarist of Radiohead. It's a discontinued Fender Telecaster Plus. It also has Lace Sensors, and the configuration is single blue in the neck, and two reds in the bridge as a humbucker, but it has a coil tap to split them into single coils. Red = hot

That pretty much covers it for his guitar, but here's the rest of his OK Computer-era rig.

Hope that helps! - Fri, 28 Jan 2005 3:17pm

They're different for either the Strat or Tele, but it looks like the output & characteristics are the same.

Seymor '59 in tha neck

A SD '59 in your Les Paul will probably sound pretty good. I use one in the neck position of my guitar and I love it. Medium output, round full sound, good low end. Just remember, it ain't no soapbar, so if you're looking for that vintage tone stick with the Gibsons. - Sun, 6 Feb 2005 2:25pm
