denver User Info... | i want to get a keyboard and a synth. i'm not gonna spend a ton i would spend a fair amount, anyone know what some good models are? and if i have a keyboard, and go through say a microkorg, does that mean i have a synth and a keyboard? thanks denver - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 7:00pm
cooper User Info... | I don't quite understand your question. Do you have a microKorg already? The microKorg is a synth, with a keyboard. You can get synths with no keyboards, but you'd need a MIDI controller to use them. If you're asking whether or not the micoKorg is a good synth, I own one and I love it. The main complaint people have about them is the size of the keys, and tedious editing. Hope this helps... - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 7:02pm

denver User Info... | boo yeah, i'll get one i think, what kind of synth sounds does it make? i like the cure, and some 80's shit, actually i like all of it actually, is that a sick set up with a keyboard? i know i really need to do some serious research on this - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 11:39pm
the pine tree savage User Info... | No you dont, I have been playing the micro-korg since it came out, and is the best investment I have ever made. You can hook a large keyboard up to the think with midi , and play the micro korg with a larger key board, or the other way around, not that you would want to, the korg rocks, you can edit and save your own customized presets, has a built in arpegiator you can change perameters of delay, echo, flanger, blablablablablabla,,,,, It will be a bit of a learning curve, if you are new to this sort of mumbo jumbo, but it is cheap, light weight, takes batterys If you get drunk and out of control, and smash it in a rage, its a lot cheaper then the triton to replace, and clean-up is easier. And believe me, you will probably contemplate smashing it into little pieces, I did. If you need any other related advice, I know a bit, and can teach basic midi stuff, If you go to Long and MQ, ask their staff, they are pretty good about helping you find what you need, and what you dont need, so learn first. NORDS are wicked to, I wish I had one of them instead, but the micro korg is great also. theres another called the V-Synth, I get a hard on every time I play these things, becarefull, they are all extremely addictive, and should be aproached with caution. Have fun. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 12:58am
cooper User Info... | You're confusing me by including the word "keyboard" into this. By "keyboard" do you mean "electric piano" or something like that? 'Cause the microKorg won't do piano sounds. The microKorg will do 80s with ease. After all, it is 'analog-modelling', so it's meant to sound like the 80s analog synths. http://korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=microKORG Here's the big brother. Same synth, bigger keys, bigger pricetag: http://korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=MS2000B - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 1:21am
Kris User Info... | It does everything from retro synth sounds, to retro hip hop sounds, to trance and techno dance noises. its really really great man, i'm sure you'll find what you need in it. it does not, however, imitate instruments. so if you are looking for real sounding piano, horns, or anything like that you wont find it. its all synth noises and other crazy noises from who knows where. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 10:33am
[+} User Info... | although, you can get organ sounds out of it, and some basic wurlitzer/rhodes type sounds. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 11:58am
denverc User Info... | great thanks guys, looks like the korg is the one for me, don't really need any piano or instrument sounds what do you guys amplify yours with? - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 5:04pm
Kris User Info... | I just use a bass amp but i'm sure theres a better way to do it. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 5:07pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Right now I like the idea of getting a strap-on midi controller, and using it with a rack full of cheap synths..... - Mon, 10 Jan 2005 12:12am
