The Cause User Info... | hey anyone know what is a good bass right now i have a decent one it works well... but kinda interested if anyone has greater knowlsedge then "that looks cool" or "so and so play that one, it must be good", i dont play metal or anyhing like that... im just looking for others opinions - Wed, 8 Dec 2004 6:13pm
de mayo User Info... | fender precision or fender jazz basses are good "all around" basses. most of them sound great and they are durable. in your band, the cause (if that is indeed your band), you'd probably also look & sound good playing something like a hofner or a dan electro bass or some funky obscure japanese bass. - Wed, 8 Dec 2004 9:32pm
The Cause User Info... | yeah its john from the cause, theres a dude selling a precision bass, what do you think a good price is? - Wed, 8 Dec 2004 10:02pm
de mayo User Info... | prices can vary quite a bit. you can get a newer cheap one for a couple of hundred bucks. you can get a nice old vintage one for several thousand. you have to play it. if it feels good to play and it sounds good and it's in your price range, buy it. - Wed, 8 Dec 2004 10:55pm
The Cause User Info... | yes my price range is not that much ill probably keep plugging away at mine for a bit i probably wont get very much for it... and i dont have anything right now... the fender is tempting i may take mine in see wat theyd give me for it... what i really want is a rickenbacker but thats not gonna happen, you dont have any old junkers you dont want anymore... christmas is coming... (wink wink) haha yeah, i dont know what ill do now. but regardless i enjoy your advice, theres no one better rick - Wed, 8 Dec 2004 11:01pm
CC User Info... | musicman basses are the most versatile and solid ones i know check em out - Thu, 9 Dec 2004 2:46am
de mayo User Info... | absolutely! yes! musicman stingray basses rock! i have a '76 and it's my favorite electric fretted bass. but the price range is higher than fender. - Thu, 9 Dec 2004 11:14am
The Cause User Info... | and everyone knows i dont have any money... if i did wed proly still practice at projam and not in a tiny room with no p.a.... haha - Thu, 9 Dec 2004 11:39am
Isolation Ride User Info... | Try out a 4 or 5 string Samick 24 fret bass.Like em better than a Fender. - Thu, 9 Dec 2004 2:04pm
steve User Info... | I bought myself a nice Fender Jazz Bass, and I love it. I'm sure I could do better, but it's solid and has a nice smooth tone. It's definetly worth the 900 bucks I spent on it. (new) - Thu, 9 Dec 2004 3:01pm
H User Info... | I third musicmans... especially stingrays and sterlings. Also, I have this uncontrollable urge to get me a jazz four, so if anyone has one for sale cheap let me know. I highly recommend yamaha basses if you are looking for a good bang for your buck. Awesome playability, good sound and durability at a price that's well below their worth. My brother has a Yamaha PJ four banger that he got for around $300 and it kills. Active electronics, too. - Fri, 10 Dec 2004 6:03pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Rickenbacker basses sound awesome, too, if you want to sound like a helicopter.... The amount of shuck that comes out of those thing would make even God cry...... I play a Jazz, and I love it.... (I hate active electronics, but that's me....) - Sat, 11 Dec 2004 7:05pm
[+} User Info... | musicman, fender, and rickenbacker. oh man. - Sun, 12 Dec 2004 1:42pm
Mystery Geust User Info... | I,m partial to Warwick's, something about the natural finishes. - Sun, 12 Dec 2004 2:38pm
Whitford St. Holmes User Info... | I shall tolerate no criticism of my beloved Rickenbaker! All these basses mentioned are fine choices. I think it's easier to make a cheap bass that'll do the job than a cheap guitar. If you're after CHEAP, try every Squire there is at Long and McQuade and you'll probably find one that fits the bill. - Mon, 13 Dec 2004 8:48pm
STBP User Info... | Warwick's Rock Bass has proven to be a pretty good balance of quality and price, I've found. About 800 bucks, and I couldn't be happier with it. Of course, whatever you choose has to feel right. If you don't have a lot of dough, maybe second-hand is for you. - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 7:27pm
oftenbongsoong User Info... | find a second hand old preccision.. i play a 69 or 70 fender preccision and it appears to have beeen a workhorse.. havn't had to do anything to it over the last 3 years and it sounds great. don't know what it would be worth though.. - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 8:00pm
Grain fed User Info... | I'm also partial to Warwick. The finish is nice but I've found them to be really comfortable to play as well. - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 11:35am
H User Info... | I actually am not a fan of warwicks. They sound awesome, but their feel and looks are just not for me. And as for precisions, they don't float my boat at all. That's a one trick pony that only works in certain situations (punk, rock, blues, jazz). Now who wants to help me steal my bud's dad's ric 4001? - Wed, 22 Dec 2004 10:28am
Demen Ted User Info... | Toss a chunk of hash at me and I'll be all over it like a fat kid on a fat kid with a box of chocolate bars. - Wed, 22 Dec 2004 10:55am
the pine tree savage User Info... | Sedowski, New York bass builder, one of the best. - Thu, 30 Dec 2004 3:59pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Dude, a one trick pony that works in four situations? Isn't that a four trick pony? - Sun, 2 Jan 2005 1:00pm
H User Info... | I mean that you can only dial up one tone. In that sense it is one trick pony but it can be used in certain situations IMO. I would never use one for metal, anything electronica, folk, fusion, prog, country, hip hop, r&b (jamerson was a jazz man, right?), funk or basically anything that isnt your standard rock, punk, blues or jazz standards. - Sun, 2 Jan 2005 2:12pm
Zippgunn User Info... | A Fender Jazz bass will do anything you want. I bought mine in '79 for $500 and have never felt the need to play anything else since despite playing punk, jazz, country and everything in between. Rickies and P-basses do indeed have one sound although sometimes that sound is perfect for some things. Rick is right about the MusicMan basses; they are like super Fenders but they (and Rickies) are real expensive whereas you can pick up a cheap jazz Bass for peanuts. - Sun, 2 Jan 2005 3:20pm
