KnifeGhost User Info... | I can't motherfucking believe Maurice didn't make the finals... Although, having played it last year, I know the secret to success is mobilizing your fan base..... Which is tough A: on a tuesday night, and B: when you have no fan base....... Which was our problem..... - Sun, 28 Nov 2004 2:21am

Lucky Bar User Info... | Thanks to everyone who entered the contest this year... and thanks to everyone who came down. It's true, we do not base the Battle Royales on trying to judge who the 'Best' band is... that is just too subjective, and we would end up with a bunch of bands with beefs. Instead, we leave it up to the crowd, which does mean whoever mobilizes their fan base has a far better chance. But there are also a number of people who come down to make up their own minds, and from time to time you do see bands snatching each other's fans. By making it a no-bullshit-we-admit this is a beer and screaming fest, everyone seems to have more fun and egos are left unbruised. The real value for us is discovering a batch of new bands that we may not have heard before. We love giving local bands a stage, and this is a good way for us to find new ones. In any case, the contest was EXTREMELY close this year. Every sound meter rating was within three decibel points at the Grand Finale (between 170db and 120db). The Grey Army took the prize last night, but every band who entered the contest at all deserves kudos. Not only for stepping up, but for having amazing attitudes towards each other. Thanks to CFUV, Metropol, and Live Victoria for helping make the whole thing happen... and for perpetually promoting local music. As well, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to CFUV, because without college radio, where would we be? - Wed, 1 Dec 2004 2:19pm

Pierce User Info... | 170db? I will have to call your bullshit! - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 3:40pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | I do believe it was a type-0 and he ment to write 117 Which would make sence since he said they ranged from the number in question to 120, and generally you put smaller numbers before larger ones when constructing a sentence thusly. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 4:30pm
mcecill User Info... | indubitably - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 6:24pm
Pierce User Info... | My bad. As soon as i saw the 170 db i was like "no fuckin way can a bar produce that kind of volume". Yup i am an idiot. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 7:40pm
Lucky Bar User Info... | I once had an unfotunate accident with my cat and a vacuum cleaner. I think the cat managed to produce about 170db. As for the Grand Finale... that was a typo. The lowest rating was for the night was 117db, the highest was 120db. Oops. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 1:05pm
