Message Board > Music Chitchat - Heavy > what order should i put my pedals in |
Ian User Info... | hey i've heard many things about how putting ur pedals in different orders can change the amount of noise and the tone of the effect and I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a boss metal zone mt 2, jimi hendrix crybaby wah, digitech digidelay x series, and a electro harmonix pulsar tremolo all going through the effects loop on my carvin stage master 212. if anyone has any suggestions that would be great - Sat, 9 Oct 2004 1:37pm
cooper User Info... | First thing most people will tell you: there are no rules when it comes to pedal placement. There are, however, guidelines as to what generally sounds "best". As a general rule, distortion/overdrive & wah never goes in the effects loop. Modulation & delay can go either in the loop or in the signal chain, it's purely personal preference. Another thing to take into consideration - are you using your amp distortion? Here's what I would do with those pedals: wah, MT-2, Pulsar, Digidelay. Try both the tremolo and the delay in & out of the loop, see what sounds best. Ignore the diagram on the bottom, as it is Boss-specific products. - Sat, 9 Oct 2004 2:13pm
Ian User Info... | thnx so much for the advice i use the overdrive on my amp for mostly rhythem and i like to use the distortion on the mt-2 for lead and a boost will the amps overdrive work differently for better or worse with the effect as apposed to an over drive stomp box in a signal chain? - Sat, 9 Oct 2004 2:32pm
[+} User Info... | dear mr. johnson, if using your amps distortion, you should place your modulation and delay effects in the effects loop. this places it between the pre amp and the power amp... in laymans terms: if you put your delay in your direct signal (guitar to amp) the delay will distort while using amp distortion. same goes for reverb and tremolo. so unless you want distorted delays (which some people do) i'd recommend it in the loop. i would have to disagree about the wah before distortion however... the MT-2 (aka home of tone) can sound bad if it has to track harmonics through the wah. but you can put the wah first or second.. again whichever sounds better. also consult http://guitargeek.com for more in-depth discussion. - Sat, 9 Oct 2004 9:26pm
KinChris User Info... | The most important thing for me is just putting my tuning pedal as far away from me as possible. It doesn't matter how much noise you get when you're jumping around and accidentily land on your tuning pedal. - Sun, 10 Oct 2004 11:42am
Ian User Info... | so, aiden i should go guitar wah mt-2 amp or are u saying i should go guitar mt-2 wah amp? - Sun, 10 Oct 2004 4:32pm
Kickback User Info... | try it both ways and see what you like. most guitarists go Wah -> Distortion/Overdrive -> Amp . But some people like Hendrix flipped it ala Distortion/Overdrive -> Wah -> Amp. it's all personal preference on what you like better - Mon, 11 Oct 2004 12:10am
[+} User Info... | definitely try out distortion before wah. - Mon, 11 Oct 2004 12:36am
Legion User Info... | hilarious buy a real amp and maybe an effects unit pedals are good for pawning - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 2:54pm
Zippgunn User Info... | My basic rule is: volume pedal (essential!) distortion(s), wah, tremolo, delay. I've never owned an amp with an effects loop so I'm clueless in that regard (although I'm not inclined to use them because of all the extra cords, etc.) - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 8:40pm
[+} User Info... | buy a real pedal. marshall's: also good for pawning. - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 10:57pm
