The Other Nick User Info... | Yes it is true. It is the dawn of a new era for music. Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy has taken modern day music to a new level with the invention of the"double blast beat". read about it here: http://metallian.com/cryptopsy.htm Timeline of Planet Earth: 4.5 Billion BC - Earth is formed from cosmic dust 570 Million BC - Life is invented 65 Million BC - Dinosaurs do their thing and die 2003 AD - Flo Mounier invents double blast-beat 2004 AD - Cryptopsy plays Victoria - Thu, 26 Aug 2004 9:02pm

KnifeGhost User Info... | Forgive my ignorance...... What the fuck is a "double blast" or "gravity blast", and how does it differe from the ordinary single kind of blast? - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 2:08pm
SpeNxoR .|. User Info... | "GRAVITY BLAST" In use by bands like Origin, and most recently, on Kataklysm's new material. Again, like the Cannibal Blast, but you're doing a ONE HANDED ROLL on the snare count! Utterly insane! So that's a 16th note snare and kick pattern over the top of each other! e.g. hats- x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x- snare xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bass1 x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x- bass2 -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x- RECOMMENDED TEMPO: 180-240bpm (good luck getting it fast as Longstreth!). AS USED BY: Origin, Kataklysm etc. CLASSIC USE: Kataklysm - Ambassador Of Pain (although it's a new tune, I think it works GREAT in the context of the song!) - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 2:12pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Fuck..... Bill Ward never did that shit..... In fact, it would kill him..... - Sat, 28 Aug 2004 2:35am
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | Damn, Im' not well schooled on drums, but I still laughed at the initial post. How could flo possibly be credited for something neumerous people were doing in public before he was? Hey! Heres a new mission: Locate the first grav blast ever! Im' itching to know who... - Sat, 28 Aug 2004 3:49am
KnifeGhost User Info... | Yo, Spence, Jamie hast mich gesagt dass du hast ein website gefunden mit viele blast beats..... Names, charts, all that..... Hast du der link? - Sun, 29 Aug 2004 8:54pm
Masturbating The War God User Info... | Jesh Spencer, using all your fancy words, and placing of x's, you're a dead man. - Mon, 30 Aug 2004 12:10am
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | Phil Collins rules, man! - Wed, 8 Sep 2004 10:54pm
Starry_Wisdom User Info... | The statment of that article is erroneus, regardless however what you said Lew, well thats not necessarily true. The gravity blast has been around for a long time, and Flo has been doing them for a long time (I am fairly sure he used it on Blasphemy Made Flesh circa 1994). He probably isn't the first however, as I think the basis for that technique is jazz(??)... But Kataklysm JUST started using it(the new super basement drummer) so no-one said numerous people were using it before him. Longstreth of Origin has been doing that for a while as well, its just not new. - Fri, 10 Sep 2004 1:13pm
Død[]Sanger User Info... | Umm andrew what I said is entirely true.. Seek and ye shall find. If you want me to actually find this myself, bet me 100 bux flo did it first then Ill get you a band name but until then, Ill leave it up to someone who stumbles across a name and decides to post it, I know one of the world's fastest drummers *forget the year* was doing something faster or the equivilent, to name one, but again don't care unless its for a 100 dollar bill :D *Also the previous drummer for kataklysm could grav blast as well if im not mistaken, and spencer diddn't say they did it before flo himself, was just pointing out an example of it there...* Someone should post the question on BWBK, I bet someone will throw a few names pretty fast... But then again, mabye no one spelled it out for a magazine before flo did... hence the whole win by copyright example... Though I assure you he is not the "first" - Sat, 11 Sep 2004 12:43am
Starry_Wisdom User Info... | What you said was NOT entirely true.. and if it was true you need EVIDENCE and FACTS to back it up, all you've got is smug hearsay. You don't know that that is true and you obviously didn't LISTEN to what I said. I said that that article was wrong hense the word ERRONEOUS (as in error, false etc..)which if you are so smart then I wouldn't need to spell it out for you. Secondly, I know Spencer was right, I wasn't disagreeing with him, I am disagreeing with your manipulation of what he said, no one ever said NUMEROUS people were doing it before him. And if you are talking about the Vile/Panzerchrist drummer (he held the record for double bass for a while), he is good but I haven't ever EVER heard him gravity blast (although I am sure he could). And as for Kataklysm.. I didn't hear gravity blast on Sorcery/Temple Of Knowledge/Mystical Gate of Reincarnation etc.. he didn't do it live when I saw them at fernwood 3 years ago, so maybe YOU should do some homework if you want to step up to the plate. As I said, Longstreth has been doing it for a long time, and JAZZ DRUMMERS CAN AND PROBABLY HAVE FOR MUCH LONGER. Also finding something on the "internet" doesn't make it true, thats what academic sources are for, if you want to give me something thats actually true, I would like to see some sort of "real" evidence and something credible, not all this "yes its true because I think it is" nonsense or some site that states its true without giving any credible reasons why. - Sat, 11 Sep 2004 1:36pm
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | TOM-MY LEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! - Sat, 11 Sep 2004 2:56pm
Død[]Sanger User Info... | Wholy shit andrew, pull the tampax brother! This isint insultoriffic blasphemizer time! Noone said there were grav blasts on said kataklysm album, I told you I diddn't care and if you did go post on Bwbk or something and let someone throw whatever it is who does give a shit. Yes I got heresay from reliable sources. Your academic crap doesn't make you king shit buddy, way to fly off the handle man. Who sais those I talk to are wrong just because you differ in opinion? no need to talk to me like that on this board dude. Take a chill pill. And as for the end of your little mock there, same to you, who says several weren't doing it other than "it's not true because I think it's not" You need to not get so wound up man. This is a music discussion board, not fight club. Mabye I think those others opinions are more creible than yours? mabye listening to drummers banter off about so and so I forgot allready as I don't care but point is I have heard examples, as I said seek and ye shall find *those examples* wrong or right there are several I have heard casually that contest this. Check the tude man. As for me step up to the plate, what part of I don't give a shit did you not get? However you'll surely find a tonne of others on misc metal boards who do give a shit and are contesting this right now so go read what they wrote and check into it if this bothers you so much. You don't have to be a dick, and I don't give a shit once again. *and I laugh because they laugh and I have confidence in their words as thats what they do all day is concern themselves with these topics if enough of em are all laughing, based on their credability so will I, just because I don't have names for you doesn't mean you cant find some dude, I don't as once again I so don't even care* - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 5:04pm

SpeNxoR .|. User Info... | By the by flo only just stared doing that blast in the last year.Theres is no GB in ANY Cryptopsy cd right now but the new one will have it. I know all this because i read a deathmetal drumming board everyday. Many drummers have been doing the GB for a long time. You can talk to them if you don't think i speak the truth. http://www.derekroddy.com - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 11:37pm
Starry_Wisdom User Info... | No I hear ya.. I swore that opening blast on Blasphemy made Flesh was GB but if it isn't then I am wrong, I do agree he definitely wasn't the first. Derek Roddy is fucking godly btw.. Council Of The Fallen slays. - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 12:41am
Død[]Sanger User Info... | Yup all is cool. And fucking \m/ to council of the fallen! - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 4:10am
J. Peatman User Info... | Real question is: Should we really care about this? Let's start a debate whether it's Cozy Powell or Keith Moon or jazz drummers in the 1940s who first applied double bass drumming. Wow! - Thu, 16 Sep 2004 6:47pm
MP User Info... | I think Billy Cobham was one of the 1st double bass drummers. - Thu, 16 Sep 2004 10:52pm
