_Griphin_ User Info... | Heh... so at least I know what type of bands the owner of Diego's is looking for :) Oh speaking of which, I was chatting with him last week, and he mentioned that if a band was interested in playing the venue to get in touch with him in person, but remember to bring some bio info and a 3-track CD sampler so he has some idea on the type of music your band plays. Nuff said... - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 2:30am
Grain Fed User Info... | There's actually a promoter working for him. I met her a couple of weeks back she seems like she's got some good ideas for the place. Not just cover bands we (The Parkings ) got an opening slot for Big Muff on Aug 13 and she's looking at more local acts. The only shitty thing is I don't think she's allowed to book any Metal or Punk ( yet, hopefully ) which eliminates it from being a really cool venue. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 4:50am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Well Wally (think that's the owners name) is looking at it from the aspect of filling the place up and making money, rather then booking just any old band. Although if you guys like Sugar for gigs, perhaps he could start getting well known bands (eg. NoMeansNo, C.C., etc) in Diego's, because I think it's a bigger venue, but at least he offers more then just 1 or 2 beer selections. Not sure, really. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 11:08am
ML7Mike User Info... | Funny, Werent the last 3 shows at Diegos pre-burn all sold out, and all punk or metal? Nevermore/ML7/WithinaVision Shocore/Gorrilla Monsoon?? and The Smalls final gig.. you'd think they'd at least consider bigger acts in those genre's. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 11:26am
_Griphin_ User Info... | I know... but I guess there's a new owner, when I was talking with the bartender, she told me that he doesn't really know what bands sound like, but she agreed with me about the 3-track CD thing/Bio, I mean technically it's sorta like applying for a job, ya need the resume' right? I was there last Friday afternoon, I'm not sure when the owner is usually in. Then again, I was also told there wouldn't be any live bands till the first week in September, but yet there's a gig on August 27th. The one thing i like about the place, pool tables and dart boards, but there glass washing system must be on the fritz, when i had a mug o' Blue it had a faint trace of Chlorine. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 12:37pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | This sounds like a small trip to disasterville. New bar, wants to get into live music, owner who "dosen't really know what bands sound like" and a bar not in the downtown core. I smell another Cambie fiasco, a cleaner cambie with a better sound system but a Cambie fiasco none the less =) I could be wrong!!!! and no offence was ment to anyone posting on this thread, and none ment towards the bar. I hope i'm wrong from the sounds of things though thats my call. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 1:29pm
Chris Logan User Info... | What kind of bands ARE they going to book, if not punk/metal? IMO yer average citizen isn't going to go check out the latest all-original mainstream rock band--they'll just listen to whatever crap's on the radio. It makes no sense to have a live music venue that excludes punk and metal, and thus the most enthusiastic live music fans on the planet. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 2:44pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Eventually they will book metal and punk...mark my words. - Fri, 23 Jul 2004 4:50pm
