dude, you can rent a pa for a show for one night for 30 dollars. it's got about 4 cords to plug in and then you just flick the switch. if something's too quiet you turn a nob. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 10:21am

yea you can rent a pa for reasonable money, but the mics and cables are xtra! Then do you need di's are you miking drums or amps cause thats more mics then if you break it you fixit right, or at least don't show your face around there any more. If the bands have got 4-12's and loud gear there can be alot of issues to deal with. not to mention the need for about a 1200-2000 watt pa. you are probable going to need something more than a practice pa. I had an 800 watt pa and it was fairly weak at best. don't forget tech riders from bands out of town. nothing worse than having a pa that only provides 8 inputs and then needing 12. don't forget about feedback issues and eqing the pa to the room. anyway hope it all works out for you good luck. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 11:40am

If it's for a punk show you don't need anything more than a 300 watt PA, at most. Most bands can use their own gear just fine. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 12:17pm

then you got the metal heads and shreadrers who got nothing but 4x12's and a bass rig like 10x8 so all there gear is like 800-1500 watts and you got a 300 watt'r trying to keep up like a tenspeed to a bullet train. especially when you got bands that have no conception of dynamics and just run it all at "max" and drive that with some crunch and chunk distortion. Then you got another band playing on stage who can't hear vox or anything for a matter of fact and blame the lack of power in a pa on a shitty sound guy whose got no choice but to crank it and then feedback is fucking up everything, and there you have it another shitty show all because you cut corrners on the most important part of putting on a good show, a sound guy who can run a rig that can keep up with the bill. thats why you get a tech rider. but some bands using practice amps and softly playing there drums got a chance because you have to learn dynamics to play well together. go ask the guy down at a blues jam how powerfull of a pa they use then listen to the bands play pay attention to how they use dynamics in there playing. 300 watts is good fo an acoustic set but forget using any amps. good musicians have a natural ability to control volume without a nob. figure about 10 watts of sound per person, findout what capasity is for the space. or tell the bands to turn down so you can hear everything else comming out of the pa. talk to the guys at long & Mcquade then ask down at Pacific Audio Works. see what they say. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 1:10pm

Nev and or I have a system, 1600 watts front end and 1200 or so monitors, 10 channel board, Mic's, Di's etc etc and one of us as a sound guy. (basicly we run a couple mackie SRM450's and a 700 watt sub for the front and a couple yorkville 540's and another mackie as the monitors) It suits for most of the AA style halls in the city.

We're pretty cheap $150-250 or so depending on your event. Just email either of us about it if you have questions. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 4:59pm
