Whatever Man User Info... | Is it me, or is the punk scene dying in Victoria? Seems like less and less people are going to the shows... - Sat, 8 May 2004 11:42am
Eurydice User Info... | I agree. - Sat, 8 May 2004 1:31pm
illninofreak User Info... | Victoria is too small.....we need more good bands. - Sat, 8 May 2004 1:36pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | There's a ton of bands in this town, I've been to quite a few punk rock shows. I think we need more all ages punk shows, IMO. - Sun, 9 May 2004 5:37am
Fableway User Info... | as long as people keep discovering new bands, the scene will never die, unless i move to van, then ya, the scene would die - Sun, 9 May 2004 5:38am
utopian society User Info... | Amen to that, Griphin. - Sun, 9 May 2004 12:34pm
jay brown User Info... | I couldnt disagree with you more. There are so many good bands in this city, you just have to keep your eyes open and go to the shows. As for kids going to the shows man there are so many more kids at the shows nowadays compared to five years ago. I think it's going in the exact opposite direction. I think that the scenes getting bigger again and that there are way more good bands now. - Sun, 9 May 2004 2:36pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Let's just hope that the scene doesn't self destruct like what happened in the 80s when City Council started banning all agers. That would be a shame. - Sun, 9 May 2004 6:40pm
Bryn User Info... | Punk music is as healthy in this city as I've seen it in living here for 15 years. There are at least four a month here, using the loosest definition of what is punk. Every time I go to an all-ager I see tons of new people. It looks OK to me. - Sun, 9 May 2004 7:10pm
Nocturna User Info... | I don't recall City Council banning gigs in the 80's. It did seem that things quieted down a bit in the early-mid 90's, but I thought it was mostly due to halls refusing to rent to promoters due to vandalism and under-age drinking. BTW I was glad to see there was no major problems at the cancer show, that will go a long way in ensuring the continuation of all-agers at FCC. It seems to me that the "scene" in Vic is alive and thriving. - Mon, 10 May 2004 12:48am
illninofreak User Info... | There are alot of good bands yes. I am going to a show at my school with 4 bands on wednesday night. But no one said they are all good. A couple of them suck actually. - Mon, 10 May 2004 5:07am
jay brown User Info... | City hall never banded anything the bars and halls wouldnt have shows cause the venues kept getting trashed. So we moved the shows into our basements for a few years. Personally I think it was great if it wasnt for that I never would of had NOFX and Lagwagon and Greenday playing in my basement. Granted Greenday's music sucks ass but they were really nice guys and it's still kinda neat to be able to say they played in my basement. The shows at the hellhouse were huge we'd have hundreds of people crammed in there, personally I'd rather play those kind of shows any day. House parties are way funner usually as long as the cops are o.k. with it, and they always were with us. On that note someone should throw a big house party and have A.W.T. play in their living room.... cause if ya e-mail me I'm sure we'd say yes. - Mon, 10 May 2004 2:37pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | It still makes me chuckle that I live right next door to the Hellhouse, I always thought it would make an awesome studio/jam space. - Mon, 10 May 2004 3:27pm
ML7Mike User Info... | The Hellhouse fuckin ruled.. And the buffer zone houses werent so bad either some nights. Ahh yes the good old days.. Boneheads Basement, Hillside Hellhouse, The Hump House.. At least The Rats Nest held out, or should I say 'Hasnt been developed yet' . - Tue, 11 May 2004 6:13am
ML7Mike User Info... | "It still makes me chuckle that I live right next door to the Hellhouse" Is that a fact? Did you notice that they tore it down 10 years ago and built condos? - Tue, 11 May 2004 6:16am
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | I have a friend who lives in the condos... - Tue, 11 May 2004 12:41pm
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | Yeah - the fuckin' summer of '92. EVERY week there'd be at least four or five gigs going on at those three houses that ML7M mentioned. It was almost like there was too much going on (nostalgic pang, nostalgic pang, mang). - Tue, 11 May 2004 12:52pm
Brian VIHC User Info... | Is the Hump House the one that got trashed on Halloween of 94? I remember that. A fitting introduction into punk that was for me, ha ha... - Wed, 2 Jun 2004 5:15pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | The scene isn't dieing .. its just summer. Wait till fall and you'll be saying "DUDE the scene has gotten awsome here lately" happens every year =) Sucks too cuz lots of really cool indie bands tour in the summer! - Wed, 2 Jun 2004 5:56pm
x Buddy x User Info... | this summer is gonna be the summer of hardcore - Wed, 2 Jun 2004 8:04pm
mike saturday User Info... | when i moved here 3 years ago there was an all ages Punk Rock show every 2 or 3 weeks. which was sweet, but i was pretty bummed out that there were no hardcore bands at all in the city. if you went to an all ager there were sweet punk bands full of old dudes keeping it real and young kids that would keep things going. if you went to a bar show, there was A LOT of really good indy rock acts. HHH before they were too big to play 5 dollar shows at thursdays, GHOSTS in thier first incarnation, SCANNERS, ATLAS STRATEGIC. personally, i think that scene has been on the downswing in the last year or so too. BUT it's all a cycle. when i moved here i thought i was the only Hardcore Kid on the island. then TOUGH AS NAILS and SELF INFLICTED started tearing shit up and now there are all sorts of bands starting with high school kids to keep the scene going after dinosaurs like gerry k. die. really, what the punk scene needs is all ages shows. the problem is that punk rock + all ages venues is a volitile mix. you have uptight venue operators mixing with drunk 14 year olds and breakable objects, and what happens is either the venue stops letting shows happen or someone mashes something and the person putting on the show loses tons of money and doesnt want to put on any more shows. it happens everywhere and in every scene. the only thing that can help is someone passionate/stupid enough (like Brian VIHC) to put on shows every month KNOWING that they're going to lose money. all ages show promotors, you are a dying breed. we miss you. - Thu, 3 Jun 2004 6:15am
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | I have faith that some of the kids going to all-agers get inspired enough to eventually put on their own gig, from what I've seen. I don't think that breed will die. - Thu, 3 Jun 2004 1:57pm
Brian VIHC User Info... | Naw Mike, it's just that if I didn't start putting on shows last year I would never have gotten to see all the rad bands I've brought over. I realized that if I was bummed on hardcore because I wasn't seeing enough good shows, somebody had to put them on... - Thu, 3 Jun 2004 5:42pm
Criss Crass User Info... | Ya big thanks to BRIAN VIHC and all the others who have been willing to take a hit for all of us local bands. I think the scene isn't suffering at all maybe just some of the genres of music have changed a little bit. - Thu, 3 Jun 2004 7:29pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | Hey I remember for a while I was like the only guy putting on AA shows in town on a regular basis and that was only like 2 years ago. Now I don't even know how many there are AND we have like 4 times the venues we used to. There's just as many kids comming out to each show as there used to be and there's at least twice as many shows. We're doing well, MUCH better then the mid 90's thats for sure! - Thu, 3 Jun 2004 8:31pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | Stop talking about yourself. All you ever do is talk about yourself man. Don't you know its' not punk to constantly talk about yourself? Ask Jay Brown about that. Please, oh won't you ever stop talking about yourself? - Fri, 4 Jun 2004 4:12am
Brian VIHC User Info... | Josh used to put on shows all the time. He brought Champion here twice! - Fri, 4 Jun 2004 7:27pm
Myka User Info... | I lived in the condos that the Hellhouse used to be... in the bottom corner.... Right where the Hellhouse was. And that's a fact. - Sun, 6 Jun 2004 4:42am
