and den..... User Info... | so what bands in town would you consider or consider themselves melodic metal/screamo/blah blah for lack of a better term deftones/staind/chevelle--ish - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 9:38am
Josh Nails User Info... | I think the term you are looking for is numetal. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 10:46am
Akylore User Info... | Have to agree... - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 11:03am
Nik Olaz User Info... | those bands aren' t metal. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 11:25am
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | NO AND DEN! - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 11:28am
Perpetual_Burn User Info... | No's Metal for yous. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 1:07pm
Mike User Info... | deftones/staind/chevelle < those are 3 fuckin pathetic and terrible bands. Man, all 3 of those bands suck ass. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 1:37pm
ML7Mike User Info... | I wouldnt call any of those bands 'melodic metal' or even metal for that matter. Melodic Metal to me are bands like Dark Tranquility, Soulscar, older Ebony Tears, some Borknager, some Opeth, maybe even to the extent of borderline powermetal bands like Iced Earth, Nevermore, Children Of Bodom etc. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 3:38pm
The One After Two User Info... | what about Poison the Well or Atreyu??? Is that melodic metal... Speaking of melodies, I thought I read in the post where Jimmy slammed metal, that Metal is full of melody? Its like Classical music or some shit? Maybe I'm wrong... - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 8:48pm
ML7Mike User Info... | Id say PTW and Atreyu are more melodic hardcore based, maybe metalcore.. - Wed, 31 Mar 2004 9:36pm
Neil User Info... | Such a fine line you draw... - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 3:55am
Kris (gni) User Info... | Ok so now that you've all got that off your chest. I actually don't really consider those bands metal either just heavy due to the guitar. But that type of music is often refered to at melodic metal or nu-metal or whatever not my words guys. So anyway can you name any local bands in this genre or that would fit in a show with bands along these lines what ever you want to call it - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 8:43am
Nik Olaz User Info... | but PTW and Atreyu both blow... twiceborn would be a band, anon, that are apparently "nu-metal" from what i've heard people say. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 9:39am
ML7Mike User Info... | "Such a fine line you draw" Not really, I dont draw the lines. Look at the labels those bands are on. Ie: Atreyu on Victory Records, a known hardcore crossover label with bands like Snapcase, Darkest Hour etc. Go to the PTW website, they flat out call themselves hardcore/emo crossover. Those two band's members would probably be the first to ridicule anyone who called them metal. Melodic Metal is a genre used to describe bands more on the less mainstream side of the tracks, and most notably its another term used to describe alot of the bands also known as 'Gothenburg Metal' ie: metal bands from the city of Gothenburg Sweden. Just as one example, although many Melodic Metal bands arent from Gothenburg. NU-metal typicaly DOESNT contain alot of 'melody' unless you call some kid caterwauling in a clean voice 'melody' . Other than that there is a lack of 'melody' in most numetal as a whole. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 10:03am
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | For Mr. One After Two: Melodic Metal??? It's not that hard to find... In Flames, Iced Earth, Children Of Bodom, Kalmah, Ebony Tears,At The Gates, Bleeding Through, Soilwork, Carnal Forge, Corperation 187, Darkest Hour... Need I continue???? As for Victoria, go to a Pariah or Seasons Of Sorrow show. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 10:27am
ML7Mike User Info... | see there's a fine line. Id call Darkest Hour a metalcore band myself. And being on Victory Records furthers my choice of description. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 10:33am
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | Well we can't all be index nazis like you mike ;) , point is all these bands have "melodic tones" if you wanna get into what sorts of melodic tones, well thats a whole new can of worms as them yankees say... - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 10:36am
ML7Mike User Info... | index nazi's lol! Yah.. well.. I just learn what I know by reading what others say, really, Im an index SHEEP. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 10:56am
Neil User Info... | Sorry about that, I should know that talking about genre classification gets people riled. My apologies, I will speak no further on the subject. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 11:36am
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | Hahaha I think it's cool Neil, 1/2 of us know eachother and us metalheads do like to blabber on about the subject And on that note, this ones mainly for Ml7mike, Are people still tending to throw all these bands under the label "melodic death metal" that you know of *being a generalization of course* and if not, which bands are now being labelled as such??? as my little circle tends to index them in way of "melodic death" "melodic black" "melodic thrash" etc. but I still find that Melodic Death is used as a mass generalization for all of them by alot of people - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 12:05pm
ML7Mike User Info... | Why is it Neil that whenever someone tries to discuss something on the board is assumed that they are 'riled'. yah Im hopping around here in my room tearing out my hair over musical genre's :D ( hey, I get more riled about people thinking I was riled when I wasnt ) Yah Dods it could go on forever really. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 12:47pm
created to kill User Info... | i thought it was just a bald spot. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 3:52pm

Dd[]Sanger User Info... | Don't you say oh shit in this heated discussion you.. you.. bastard!!!... .. ? - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 4:29pm
Instrument of Karma User Info... | Mike...remember the days when it either WAS or WASN'T metal? Nowadays a metalhead needs some sort of degree in discerning obscure inconsistencies to figure out what the hell he was playing AT THE JAM LAST NIGHT. (wERE WE DOING,LIKE, MELODIC AND STUFF, CAUSE I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DO A KINDA GRINDCORE THING...) Fuck it. If it ends up with drinking, scrapping, police presence, or some drunk girly slobbering all over your guitar, it was worth it. - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 5:10pm
XY-SATAN User Info... | I like me'ill , I lie'kit a lot ! The only time you need to categorize shit is to explain to another fan of the scene where they fall , but it's still fucking rock and roll to me ! - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 5:26pm
Danny Silverfish User Info... | you are so high aren't you - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 6:12pm
The One After Two User Info... | I didn't know what you'd call PTW or Atreyu, they're both aggressive and melodic (and one of the bands takes their name from the Never Ending Story). I've seen PTW and tons of "metal" bands and it sounds pretty much the same live so... just PTW dresses better and there are more girls at the show. but yeah melodic hardcore sounds about right. How 'bout Nickelback, there heavy and melodic...sorry shitty joke ;) - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 7:07pm
XY-SATAN User Info... | Of course I'm high ! But when aren't I ? - Thu, 1 Apr 2004 8:09pm
ML7Mike User Info... | "Mike...remember the days when it either WAS or WASN'T metal?" Yah I remember when Judas Priest was considered 'very heavy' - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 8:14am

Masturbating The War God User Info... | Haha, A WELL travelled time traveller. Old farts! - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 12:58pm
Instrument of Karma User Info... | Old age and treachery will outwit youth and naievity any day. Hands down. Mike, I agree. Priest is no longer the pinnacle of heaviness they used to be. Metallica used to be heavy too, once. - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 6:02pm
created to kill User Info... | so was Rikki Lake - Fri, 2 Apr 2004 8:04pm
mcecill User Info... | Reading this thread has got me curious as to what genre we can be described as. I personally listen to lots of the bands that have been mentioned so far here, as well as stuff like Avenged Sevenfold and Hopesfall and Thrice. Kincaide just comes out the way it comes out, we have never really tried to play in a certain genre. Here is a link to one of our heavier songs, if you listen to it, Im interested to know your thoughts on who/what it sounds like. http://stopkincaide.com/music/kincaide_trigger_time.mp3 - Sun, 4 Apr 2004 10:58pm
Neil User Info... | It's definately a Jazz-type, super-progressive, blackened Emo-deathrock. Good, though! - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 2:08am
mcecill User Info... | nice, I knew it was something like that, just couldn't put my finger on it. - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 7:36am
Akylore User Info... | "As for Victoria, go to a Pariah or Seasons Of Sorrow show." For melodic metal?!?! Damn you!!! We are "Epic Progressive Metal with Classical Influences" *LOL* Hahahaahaha..... Sorry, I had to, we were using that definition for a while, but yeah, we are definitely a melodic band. I just couldn't help but comment since I've been listening to a lot of Rhapsody: "Epic Symphonic Hollywood Metal" *LOL* Hahahahahahaaaaaa....the sub-genres are so fucking ridiculous but I love it anyways... Anybody up for some Albacore? - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 5:57pm
