Laprider User Info... | well some care....this is old news to those who follow politics......the CIA caused all of this....in the mid eighties when I was selling good hash kilos at a time it was always stamped with a gold seal reading afghanistan freedom fighters unite with an AK47.......hmmm supposedly it was transported to the states by the CIA and distributed through a released from prison mafia don.....people should know these things, although I am not condoning their actions the great ol USA has had it coming for some time - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 2:30pm
jason | yah just don't tell that to the cnn-educated masses. - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 2:49pm
Zaner | I can't stand the bullshit we are force fed everyday. There is no way that we are receiving trustworthy information through any medium. Every single piece of news available to us has got to be going through a massive US filter. Undoubtedly there are US officials controlling exactly what gets released into our collective consciousness. Sounds paranoid, but I think it's naive to think otherwise. Anybody else think they have a totally unbiased source for global news? "Perspective is everything"...which is exactly why we can't see anything with our heads up our asses. - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 4:47pm
Matt D. | There are many media sources that aren't filtered by the U.S. Not to say the U.S isn't keeping an eye on some of 'em, or that they themselves are unbiased in their own goals.... I think mass media is definitely a tool for government propagation, but nonetheless sometimes something will slip out that the gov't doesn't like; we're still not in an Orwellian time of complete control. The reigns have been tightened lately (post 9/11), though. I don't agree with everything Anti-Flag says, but some of what they say is pretty true: "You could stand on the street, talk 'til you're blue in the face. And they would not make you stop, 'cause you have no power base. But if Dan Rather got on the Evening News and said, 'It's time for revolution!' The FBI would fuck him up so bad he'd wish he wasn't living!" This is true. I saw Scott Ritter (ex-marine, ex-UN inspector to Iraq) speak in Uvic a while back. He's critisizing the US's push for unilateralism. The fed's have a three-pronged investigation going on him and he says his family's been threatened. I think Michael Parenti (sp?) said something like: "People say they say what they like... but that's because they like what you say. You'd never know you're on a leash if you sit right next to the post." - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 5:19pm
Zaner | I'd totally be interested in any source of news that wasn't being heavily monitored/filtered, etc. Anybody have any? - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 6:03pm
Matt D. | Check out http://www.zmag.org ... the electronic version of Z Magazine. It's a good source from a variety of writers, Noam Chomsky among them. It's some of the best I've found on the net. - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 6:31pm
jason | ya zmag is a good source. but to say everything is controlled by a "massive US filter" is to over simplify things (and a great marginalization tool for the lazy). What you have to do is read as much as you can accross the whole political spectrum and then decide for yourself what to beleive, or better yet, to consider as a theory. - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 7:02pm
Anonymous | Yea, I saw Scott Ritter at uvic too. He gave a very compelling speech and is deffinately one smart cookie. His UN weapon inspecting peers were openly critisizing his work and personality on television a while ago, but then, that's to be expected. Matt T. had an ftp up for a bit with all sorts of good (unfiltered) speeches, many on the topic of the bombing of the towers and this new stupid war. There's some Micheal Parenti stuff in there, too. If you see his name come up on the board harrass him to open up the ftp again. "Draw your own fucking conclusions." - Tue, 26 Nov 2002 11:49pm
