Aidan Logins User Info... | Cole Grifter is just finishing up with recording and we're looking at our options for mastering. Doesn't really have to be local but it would be cool to keep the business close if we can. Any ideas? Who is awesome? - Thu, 13 Aug 2009 8:14pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Well I am awesome, actually. :) - Fri, 14 Aug 2009 1:41am

Tyler User Info... | I usually like what comes out of bonati mastering also I really suggest you find someone who does mastering as their main profession and not as a hobby. GOOD mastering requires a lot of specialized hardware and very careful ears. be weary of people who claim to do it with only software. make sure the end result is tested on a variety of listening mediums (monitors, stereo speakers, earbuds). I did one of my uvic advanced recording seminar projects on mastering and it drove me up the wall. I would also suggest you look in the liner notes of some recordings you like a lot. mastering can be done over great distances without worrying about shipping and such and some mastering engineers are surprisingly affordable. please do NOT get a cd duplication place to do your mastering. they usually do a formulaic assembly-line-style job and that's not fair to your music. never get the person who mixed your project to also master it. fresh ears are very important. - Fri, 14 Aug 2009 12:23pm Edited: Fri, 14 Aug 2009 12:25pm
You Enjoy Myself User Info... | Do not go with Gary Brainless. Avoid it. He's horrible. I would recommend Zak Cohen. He has a studio in Duncan called The Woodshop, he did our album and it came out great. He's friendly, affordable, and extremely knowledgeable. - Fri, 14 Aug 2009 2:21pm
Aidan Logins User Info... | Thanks for the input! - Fri, 14 Aug 2009 6:31pm
B.P. User Info... | Yeah don't go with Brainless, he's only done studio work for some of the biggest, alternative, bands in the city. And if I have to explain that was sarcasm, someone'll get smacked.. - Fri, 14 Aug 2009 7:19pm
trevor corey User Info... | Cheeers Chopper! I wasn't going to respond to the negativity., by contributing more negativity You handled it so perfectly I have so many Brainless produced albums that are in my top favorites but im not going to start an internet piss fest everyone has aright to their own opinion ................but seriously, thanks for the backup - Sat, 15 Aug 2009 4:56am
B.P. User Info... | I've known Gary since 88. He's damn good people. No problems backing you up on this one cause you were spot on mate! - Sat, 15 Aug 2009 8:42am Edited: Sat, 15 Aug 2009 8:43am
Anchor User Info... | +1 for Zak Cohen @ the woodshop. He has some great ears and is a super cool guy to work with. - Mon, 17 Aug 2009 11:18am
You Enjoy Myself User Info... | Hey guys, I'm not saying Gary has never done anything of quality EVER, because I really haven't heard EVERYTHING he's done. But my own experience with him was far from positive, which is why I said he was "horrible". I'm not going to get into specifics, but suffice it to say that I would never recommend him to anyone. I don't think I'm only contributing "Negativity", I'm only sharing my own personal experiences to try to assist the OP. - Mon, 17 Aug 2009 12:24pm
The Professor User Info... | We've always used Evan Rabby of Company Zero. He does good work. Does sgood short run duplication too. [email protected] http://www.companyzero.ca 250-380-6736 - Mon, 17 Aug 2009 12:26pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Never get someone who's loaded to mix your sound, it doesn't work. It sounds really good when your loaded, but it tends to sound like ass when your sober. I know this from personal experience. - Wed, 19 Aug 2009 12:32pm Edited: Wed, 19 Aug 2009 12:35pm
devin User Info... | Last night I poured myself a glass of champagne and I mastered. - Sat, 17 Oct 2009 11:08pm
ScottL User Info... | I can vouch for Joby Baker of Baker Studios. Great rates, extremely good product, open minded and fast turnaround (although he is busy so plan ahead). I have had work mastered by him and am very impressed. - Tue, 10 Nov 2009 7:52pm
Name / Alias User Info... | Just because someone has worked with some of the top bands in the city, does not get them an honorary "rad mastering" badge. I'm not saying he's not rad, as I'm not too familiar with his work, I'm just saying... - Tue, 10 Nov 2009 11:08pm
Jl User Info... | I've worked with gary on 2 separate occasions. Very affordable and decent quality depending on what your after. Overall, there are better studio's to go to for pure sound quality and recording quality. But gary seems to bang out a good sound for a very cheap price, many kudo's to that because not everyone can afford to pay out the teeth for a high quality/pro quality(not saying that Gary is less than that; but more so he's realistic about what he does). Totally good people and an extremely knowledgeable guy. As for mastering, I don't think he would be the "best" person for the job, but its not like he doesn't have the know-how to do it. I would focus more on who/how/where you record yourselves and the mixing... gary is def. a good guy for that. For the record, i did not know who gary was before using his facility. I had no idea of the bands he's had through that studio(lots of great ones). So, that had absolutely no bearing on my judgement of his studio/person. So all in all if your looking to get the best bang for your buck, the rats-nest is def. a good place to start. - Thu, 12 Nov 2009 1:04pm
