Steedless User Info... | Yesterday my bike was stolen while I was at work. It was locked up outside my workplace and the chain was cut in the middle of the day not 25 feet from a fairly high traffic intersection. Does anyone have any ideas of places I might check (ie pawnshops, bike stores, etc.) that might not ask as many questions to someone trying to sell my bike. The bike was my only mode of transportation and will not be able to be replaced in the forseeable future, as I am not what you would call a wealthy individual. I had the bike for about a month and it was a b-day gift from my parents because their son is too much of a poor loser to be able to afford a half decent bike on his own. Any ideas are appreciated. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 1:38pm
Steedless User Info... | Has anyone had their bike stolen and actually gotten it back? I'm wondering just how much effort I should put into the reclaimation project. Should I just let it go? - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 1:52pm
ML7Mike User Info... | A chick I know had her bike stolen.. she went to the pawn shop at Govt and Bay and the guy told her someone had come in the day before and tried to sell it to him. He turned it down, and the guy went to the second hand shop across the street. She went there, and they tried to deny ever having seen it, and just as she was leaving, the owners son rode into the store on her bike. It turned into a big episode, with the cops and her boyfreind getting involved. First they tried to threaten and inimidate her, then they met her boyfreind who was ready to kill them all, so the cops came to keep the peace and she got her bike back. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 2:40pm
The Ladies Man User Info... | Check with the cops - they often get stolen bikes. Maybe someone just took it for a joy ride and left it somewhere and the cops picked it up. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 2:43pm
jepsycho User Info... | Hey man, sorry about your bike :( I can totally relate. When my work was across the street from Holiday Court I had both the tires stolen off my bike. My coworkers were totally cool about it though. They all donated money towards new tires. My brother had his bike stolen outside his work not even 24 hrs after he got it as a birthday gift from our parents. Luckily my parents used a credit card so he was able to have the bike replaced by the insurance. To find your bike I would check out all the bike shops and all the police stations. Quite often the police will confiscate a bike from a person who doesn't look like they should be riding an expensive bike unless they have some sort of proof of ownership. Even though the bike shops will say that they don't buy hot bikes they really do. My buddy who is an ex-junkie used to steal a bike or bike parts daily and sell them to Bicyclitis. Of course they will deny this but I was witness to it all the time. I didn't agree with it but it was better then him stealing my stuff! Those people that used to have that second hand shop on govt st are totally seedy. They probably went bust because all the stuff they had came from B&E's. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 3:39pm
Trailer Park Boy Julian User Info... | "My buddy who is an ex-junkie used to steal a bike or bike parts daily and sell them to Bicyclitis...." If there's one type of person I CANNOT stand it's a low down, weasely thief. Wish I knew the name of this mouth breathin' waste of organic matter 'cause, as an avid rider, I'm sure he's responsible for a few missing parts off my bike as well as many of my brethen. I guess karma always gets these losers in the end, but someday I'd like to set one of 'em up for a good mind fuck and / or beating........ - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 6:27pm
