jepsycho User Info... | So I was on Live Victoria this morning and my computer froze, which it does all the time because its a shitty old small memory computer, so that's all fine. But the difference is when I turned my computer back on I got a message that said "Your display adaptor is not configured properly" and it tries to get me to use some display adaption wizard and when I do it says I don't have the proper hardware and everything on my screen is stretched out sideways? Any ideas how to fix it? I have gone into my display menu and tried everything. HELP! - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 6:50pm
DEATH User Info... | get new display drivers for your graphics card, if this doesnt fix it, it sounds like your card was either fucked with or is broken, you could roll back the driver before installing the newest one, theres viruses out there that screw with G cards... If you have that stupid N-view desktop enabled on xp, that can be a bitch, Id get the driver before nvidia started using it.. That is if you have it or even a geforce card... I've fixed meny a display problem, I buy Nvidia and the right drivers for your system make all the difference, my cpu for some reason hates all the display driver updates since after last nov. Everything goes smooth then one day, blam unreasonable bullshit. The new"old" drivers stopped that in it's tracks... - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 8:13pm

Pooetry User Info... | HAHA Jess, you sound like me with computers: retarded. I think you have to go into DOS before your Win95 loads up to get it off of Safe Mode. Catch ya soon. Gimme a call, biotch. :D - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 9:01pm

Mica User Info... | When your computer is booting up tap the F8 key. You should get a screen with safe mode/normal selections. Choose normal and hit enter. - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 9:43pm
k8 User Info... | try restoring it to a previous location... sounds like its a fucked up video card, though...those old ones are pretty easy to break, hell, the new ones are easy to break. - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 9:44pm
ender User Info... | hey k8!! wouldn't bet my next paycheck on it but I don't think win 95 has a system restore!! probably the best thing to do,,,unless you have a bunch of stuff on your drive you just can't live without,, would be to reformat the drive and reinstall your OS. or install a newer OS, every body and thier uncle's has an old win 98 CD kickin around!! good luck!! - Mon, 22 Sep 2003 9:21pm
METALNECK User Info... | Actually, as a computer programming graduate I have played with a lot of older and newer computers and I often find when you have an older problem with hardware the very first thing to check for is creep. Fixing creep is easy. Follow my simple instructions and tell me if it works, of not then I'll give you more stuff you can do. Step 1) Unscrew your computer on one side so you can see your mother board and all the cards that are plugged into it. Step 2) Locate your video card. Your video card is a flat thing that is vertically plugged into your mother board. Do you see where you plug your monitor to in the back? When your computer is open, pay attention to the exact card it is attached to, that would be your video card. Step 3) Get a smalll screw driver and unscrew the single screw that is locking your video card into place. Step 4) Pull your video card out. This may be tricky as old computers can get stiff. Step 5) Pull an old nintendo trick. Blow the dust all off of the video card and try not to touch the gold connectors. Step 6) Place the video card back into the same slot you got it from. Now push it in really hard. Not so hard that it feels like it is going to break, but almost. Step 7) You just cured creep, and hopefully that works. As for getting out of safe mode, well win 95 automatically boots into safe mode when there is a serious problem. I know how ugly 16 colors look but you can't get out by pressing a key. You can, however, force a win 95 computer into safe mode by pressing the f8 key at bootup. Hope this works for you. - Tue, 23 Sep 2003 8:52am
jepsycho User Info... | Thanks all. I have pretty much given up all hope now because it is actually doing many other things that crash it regularly as well. Part of the problem is that I have never had a side panel on the computer, as you can imagine with 2 cats and a dog it's pretty dirty in there right about now. So anyways I am actually looking for a good used computer now so if you have one for sale or know someone who does let me know. Thanks! - Tue, 23 Sep 2003 2:55pm
DEATH User Info... | call Gizmos computers, theyre in langford and downtown, really really good used cpu prices. And last time I was there they had 17" Dynaflat monitors for 200 stinkin bux! - Tue, 23 Sep 2003 11:40pm
Japanese Air Force User Info... | Hmmm... I wouldn't recommend Gizmos for anything. I've found that they're a bunch of sheisters who sell refurished and used crap for more-than-new prices. They don't even bother to clean the dust off the shit they're selling as "new". You can buy 17" monitors from local resellers on Ebay for $30.00.... why pay $200.00? If you're seriously in need of a new computer and really don't know as much as it sounds, find someone who knows and get them to go shopping with you. That way, you'll get exactly what you need and not a $3000.00 super-system that you'll be surfing and word-processing on. Also, if you're looking for suggestions on good, trustworthy, local shops to buy a new computer at, I wholeheartedly recommend Reboot computers: http://www.reboot.ca . They have the best customer service you'll ever find and their prices are comparable to http://www.ncix.com , which is what most CDN computer geeks base their prices on. I just helped someone get a computer from Reboot and it was only about $600-$700 for a VERY nice machine. Anyways, good luck. ~JAF - Wed, 24 Sep 2003 2:43am
DEATH User Info... | Jesus what Gizmos did you go to??? I have seen the interior of both cpus I got from them, one new one used, have the packaging for everythign they used, and saw all the parts of the used machine, both work awesome, nothing has happened to either and killer price too.... - Wed, 24 Sep 2003 5:58am
