Message Board > General Chitchat > Bands need to fight the local club monopoly |
Jedi User Info... | Bands need to fight the local club monopoly. There should be at least three local bands making $1000.00 a month at least. Enough for then to get by without additional jobs and get serious about writing better music. Dealers could keep the band high and make sales through groupies. As one band dies off, another is ready to replace them and keep the competition high. I offered two local bars a deal where Id rent the whole bar for a few grand, a month ahead. I wanted %100 of the door and %30 of specified drink specials and they both laughed at me. So the club owners make it impossible to make anything back to pay my bands what they are worth ($200, $400, $600, and $800 for the four bands in order. Ok, forget the drink specials. The bar still gets a full house of drinkers to profit off of and cash up front for the night. Nothing off their back. Everyone profits. What about clubs selling tickets to the band ahead of time? The band pays a couple dollars per ticket for 500 tickets or however many they want. Band sells tickets for whatever they decide. The bar keeps all drink sales except the smart business owners who know to tip a few hundred $$$ to bands on especially good drink sales nights. Keep the bands happy and the competition high, keep the local mob (dealers) happy, and the club owners working with this program would double their income without screwing over the musicians that help pay their bills. Ive spoken to several members of bands that play shows often and they dont like my ideas cause they are happy with free beer, getting laid, and dont want higher competition. I tried to keep this very short. If you want more details with actual numbers and specifics, send me e-mail. [email protected] with monopoly typed subject. - Sun, 7 Sep 2003 6:23pm

The guy's obviously nuts User Info... | Don't waste your time with this Jedi fool. Nuttier than a fruitcake..... - Sun, 7 Sep 2003 9:24pm
DEATH User Info... | I allready replied to him but, what bar in their right mind would say, sure come in use our building, take all of the door, take 1/2 of the drink specials *which of course, the bar paid for all the booze not whoever is putting on the show* and we'el pay all the extra staff for your event out of our own pockets even though we have no idea who you are or what draw your night will have. Look through the bar's eyes... - Sun, 7 Sep 2003 9:40pm
greg User Info... | No bar is going to give any band a cut of the booze. And why should they. They're not partners with bands. If you want to start a club or bar, go ahead. - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 12:13am
don't do it User Info... | This Jedi guy is the same one who was looking for people to give him kittens to feed to his snake. Why don't you move back from where you're from; or won't they allow you back into the US? Wonder why. - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 1:30am
Charles the Clown User Info... | I dont know if they would take me back, Ive been here almost three years. They always send the psychos to Canada. The fresh air heals sick minds (so they think). Since YOU want me to go back to Bush land, I better git going eh. - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 4:42am

Stalker User Info... | Really now, at least you got my name right. I wonder if your the recording guy that looked nervous as hell when I walked in and we were introduced. haha, at least it was one of many Jedi, Clown, Stalker, street corner grrl, slaggers. Dont worry, I dont take it personal. Once you've been in the music business long enough you too will be able to look up your arse and see the sky from being fucked so many times. if anyone mentions music industry i just automatically bend over to take it up the ass*lol*....its like a reflex and you too will see it the same if you stick around long enough. Maybe thats why you think I'm in my "late" 30s? Sorry if I continue to offend all you livevic groupies for not taking this site as serious as you do. You have to expand your mind a little further. And how do you compare early retirement with being washed up? What is washed up? Want to meet for coffee or somewhere off a trail in a local forest, recording studio, on stage cutting heads in front of a full house. Cmon and put up some pressure to make it worth my time. Or let go and have some fun... - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 6:19pm
jepsycho User Info... | I dunno personally after some of the things I have read that you said, I think that you are one sick fuck. If you think having fun is tormenting people and animals perhaps you should go back to the lock up ward at the EMP where you belong! - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 7:04pm
So? User Info... | Well if he is american , he obviously has $$ to support himself. he cant get welfare. or unemployment. so the washed up thing cant be true. He could have married a canadian or is a minimalist living out in the woods or on the street . But i really cant see this guy hanging out at the library all day to post on live vic.as for being fucked up and talking out of his ass, with some very obscene and rude posts in the past, i could assume he really is an idiot. what i would love to see is this stalker guy shut us up and show us some of his MUSIC from his EARLY retirement from the INDUSTRY. lol - Mon, 8 Sep 2003 7:30pm

jepsycho User Info... | Hey you crazy fucknut, why does it matter if they have an email address up? Maybe they don't want crazy fucked up peopl like you stalking them. HMMMMM. It must be pretty cool to hide behind a computer all day and see how many people you can scare or piss off. How about you get a job and a life and find some other site to play on. - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 12:06pm
So? User Info... | Again you fucking burden to canada, show us your music from this carreer of yours. Simple enough. I would show you mine but then you would know what band i play in and my opinion means nothing of the bands. - Tue, 9 Sep 2003 2:15pm

Raoul User Info... | what monopoly? - Thu, 11 Sep 2003 4:10pm
jay brown User Info... | Monopoly? All righty I play in two bands in town, and while some people may like to slag us, we do seem to draw better crowds than most of the bands I know in this town. No offence against anyone else we've just been around long enough that people actually seem to know who we are by now. Theres no way in hell we'd make a grand here, and I dont think theres anyone else I know here worth that much either. Bottom line, there arent enough people filling the rooms for live music to make it worth while for the rooms to pay that much. Do you really think Logans could afford that? While Lucky could afford it, they'd probably lose money that night or make so little that it wouldnt be worthwhile. No offence against any of the local talent I'd love it if we all made that much money, but it seems in this city theres more bands that their are customers. Barely any musicians out there make enough to be "professional" musicians so most of us around here just do it cause we love it. Somewhere along the way you have to improve, but as far as money goes, well I say we all just keep doing it cause we love it. Who knows maybe someone will hand you a wad of cash, but dont hold your breath. - Thu, 11 Sep 2003 6:58pm
METALNECK User Info... | Why does everyone have to slag this guy? All he did was give his opinion, that hardly makes him a bad person. I think the only thing stupid about this thread is the pointless retarded insults thrown his way. Kudos to Jay Brown for being able to state his opinion without heckling the guy. - Thu, 11 Sep 2003 8:45pm
don't do it User Info... | "all he did was give his opinion"???? Where have YOU been Brad??? This guy is a fucking mental case who has done some pretty shitty things to some people. He deserves worse than all this. - Thu, 11 Sep 2003 11:56pm
