micoll User Info... | i'm thinking of picking up a decent 8 track for recording. any ideas of what would be good-- i'm definitely of the mindset of analog over digital. - Mon, 25 Aug 2003 8:00pm
ticklefish User Info... | I agree that ultimately analog is better than digital if you have the money to get the really good analog stuff . That shit costs huge dollars. If a modern 8-track is what you are looking for, it isn't going to be better than digital. Dollar for dollar, at the lower end of the spectrum (under $5K), digital will kill analog in versatility. Then use your dollars wisely and have it mastered on analog gear to 1/2" tape. But, that is just this digital recording enthusiasts opinion. - Mon, 25 Aug 2003 10:23pm
micoll User Info... | i'm not looking for versatility, but a good, rough sound. - Tue, 26 Aug 2003 11:02pm
Zander User Info... | I have a mint 16 track 1" machine you may be interested in. It sounds killer and is a very robust machine. Cheers....... - Wed, 27 Aug 2003 11:38am
Zippgunn User Info... | An old Tascam or Fostex 8 track reel to reel would give you the "rough" sound you want all right, just remember it's about $70 for a reel of 1/2 " tape (30 or so minutes). Shouldn't cost over a grand but then you'll need a mixer, mics etc. etc. - Wed, 27 Aug 2003 1:27pm
micoll User Info... | yeah I was looking at a fostex r-8 what else? - Wed, 27 Aug 2003 7:30pm
big fat J User Info... | im totally pro-analog, yet some things could use the digital touch.. i got myself a tascam midistudio 688 back in the years, '97 er so..and the fact is that it almost does as much shit as one of those up-to-date compact digital 8 tracks these days. (even more in some aspects). its a fuckin monster (size wise) but doesnt waste a godamn inch. sounds fuckin rad too..i guess what im getting at that it'll take some serious looking, but you can find some very rad old school gear out there if you look hard enough you can find it, i was also told the was another tascam 688 on ebay, same model and all, starting at $300 er so...(second hand info)....if what yer looking for is some "home" gear. and on another note.. i know u'll probably know this shit zippgun, my shits been smelling weird, plastic buring sorta smell, and i think its really dusty from not using it in a while and i was wonding if you know, or anybody for that matter, knows where i can go fer a good cleaning fer cheap cheap. yeah... please help. email me if you know, [email protected] thanks. - Thu, 28 Aug 2003 3:48am
micoll User Info... | don't know about cleaning... but, is the portastudio as good as a nice reel to reel 8 track? I dig the reel to reel. also, i don't need any midi capabilities. - Fri, 29 Aug 2003 11:57pm
Mac User Info... | I always thought it was spelled "Analogue"? or did I dream it? - Sat, 30 Aug 2003 9:59pm
micoll User Info... | analogue or analog, both are right. "analogue" is mostly used in the context of "analogous" or "serving a similar function", while "analog" is always used in the electronic sense. - Sun, 31 Aug 2003 3:58pm
