Cordova Bay User Info... | We are just releasing "David Gogo: Live At Deer Lake - Official Bootleg Series Vol 1". It will have limited availability Web (http://shop.cordovabay.com) and stage sales. However, we have provided limited product to A&B Sound to thank them for their past support for Gogo. The catalog number is CBR-0292. It really is a "bootleg" in that it was a one shot recording (for ROCK 101 in Vancouver). We also added a radio show recording of Gogo in Holland and a bonus track that is kind of weird. Somebody in the audience of a Gogo concert in Austin, Texas recorded the show (from the audience) with a hidden DAT recorder. He then posted the show on the Internet. We enjoyed the performance (it was killer) so we stole it from this guy's site and stuck it on the CD. - Tue, 8 Jul 2003 4:06pm
davescene User Info... | I did the same when Tragically Hip played at the Royal. I recorded 3 or 4 songs on my Minidisc - sounds okay except for the hootin' and hollerin' from my buddies beside me.... - Tue, 8 Jul 2003 4:18pm
some girl... User Info... | Wow, I remember not so long ago a guy requested someone to trade Pearl Jam bootlegs with him and everyone ripped him apart. Are we all grown up now? - Tue, 8 Jul 2003 4:23pm
CrazyLegsMC User Info... | why would you tear the guy apart? trading bootleg copies of live shows isnt wrong. ive bought tons of Led Zeppelin albums, and plan on buying the rest when cash comes my way. i own both dvd's, and am collecting their singles now. i am a collector, not a thief, so i dont see why anyone would object to me trading bootleg copies of their live shows. maybe if i was going to sell them, or use them to make money than u would have a point, but im simply a collector who is desperate for an *offical bootleg collection* to be released, but untill then ill make do with what i can find. anyways, if anyone has anything to with led zep.. be it magazines, pictures, cd's, vinyls, singles, imports, key chains, memoribillia or anything, lemme know cause ill buy it(providing your not ripping me off) thanx! - Tue, 8 Jul 2003 10:29pm
The Ref User Info... | Tons of guys trade stuff on the 'net. There's a lot of links for this. All bootleg. Sorry I don't have an address, though. - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 12:40am
The Dude User Info... | Holy Shit. They must have grown up. Nobody's been called theif yet!! Man, they just must not like the fact I wanted to trade Pearl Jam bootlegs. To the guy above, i am gonna bump that thread so you can read the shit kicking I took. - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 1:24am
The Dude User Info... | oh yeah......and if you are interested in trading some Led bootlegs, drop me an e-mail. - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 1:48am
The Ref User Info... | Thief? Nothing like a good bootleg. Especially if it's free (heh heh). - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 10:11am
The Ref User Info... | Just read that Pearl Jam bootleg thread. Ouch. I think all this stuff about "stealing" is bullshit. For starters, the record industry deserves what it gets, especially since it artificially inflated the price of music with the advent of CDs. CDs represented about a 100 per cent price jump in list price from LPs, ostensibly because it cost more to make CDs. But when the manufacturing price of CDs went way down, did the industry lower the price? No. (Of course, it wasn't the artists who were profiting from all this stuff.) But screw it. Technology has provided a means to get free music. Musicians and the rest of the industry must deal with it. That's life, baby. Coo! - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 10:15am
Zippgunn User Info... | Unless you are the fan's fan, bootlegs are almost useless as far as music goes. I have perhaps a dozen bootlegs in total (out of around 20,000 LP's) and the only reason I own them is because they provide something that is/was unavailable in the artist's authorized releases. Zep's live album (in my opinion their worst) is still better than the dozens of boots that I've heard by them, almost all alike, the only real variations being sound quality (bad to horrible usually). Frank Zappa did what Gogo is doing, took boots that others had done and released them himself, even these are of only marginal interest except to the fanatic. Oh and if that Gogo boot is anything like the show I saw him do backing up Little Feat prepare yourself for a LOT of guitar wanking, all of it from the 10th fret up. Too bad you won't be able to see the "innovative" Corona beer bottle solo, or his pointy shoes. - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 12:36pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Amazing! I actually have a Zep boot in my collection: A Wrench in the Works-Live in Vienna 1973 featuring a lot of stuff from the third LP (Bron-Y-Aur Stomp etc.).I'll burn you a CD if you want but you'll have to go to Colwood to get it (and bring Hoegaardens, lots of 'em). Anyone want some Miles Davis or Captain Beefheart boots? King Crimson 1974? Some of them are actually GOOD! - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 12:49pm
CrazyLegsMC User Info... | hey can I just buy that live Led Zep CD off you? - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 3:39pm
Cordova Bay User Info... | Zippgunn writes - "Oh and if that Gogo boot is anything like the show I saw him do backing up Little Feat prepare yourself for a LOT of guitar wanking, all of it from the 10th fret up. Too bad you won't be able to see the "innovative" Corona beer bottle solo, or his pointy shoes." Well, Gogo is a great guitarist. Many people who plan to see him perform would be disappointed if they did not see/hear "him grind it out". Bruce Iglauer founder and president of Alligator Records and a member of the Blues Hall of Fame (The Blues Foundation) remarked during his key note speech in Toronto in January that THE BLUES needs more guitarists like Gogo who express the blues through their guitar rather than wank on it like the rest of the crowd. Iglauer has worked with the best blues has ever had to offer - Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, Magic Slim, Otis Rush, Carey Bell, Howlin' Wolf, Luther Allison, Hound Dog Taylor, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks, Son Seals, Big Walter Horton, Professor Long Hair, Lonnie Mack, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Katie Webster, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and many more as a promoter, manager and/or record company. Gogo was the only Canadian to be mentioned by Bruce during his key note address. It was at the same Maple Blues Awards were Iglauer spoke that Gogo was named "Guitarist of the Year". On the issue of using a Corona beer bottle during a solo - well, perhaps he shouldn't use a beer bottle, but the sound is better with one than any other piece of glass or steel. Ever ask yourself why it should be a Corona? Well, it has certain physical characteristics that are important. One, it is the right size with the right circumference. It is 'clear' which is really important if you don't want to use a half-full bottle in the heat of the moment by mistake. The final thing to consider is its lack of a paper label. If you remember that a paper label will not produce anything close to the correct sound, you either need to find a bottle without one or get someone to fully remove the labels and the glue before the show. As for Gogo's shoes; his sneakers were in the laundry. - Wed, 9 Jul 2003 8:49pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Well obviously this is a matter of opinion but I will tell ya one thing. Almost without exception, every one of Gogo's solos was over the tenth fret, and after awhile it began to sort of bug me (I'm a guitarist). This weird fact stuck with me into the Little Feat part of the show when I realised (at about the 90 minute mark of the show) that neither of the Feat's guitarists had ventured over about the eighth fret, and both had done about 2 extended solos (good ones, too)each in the interim. And the horrible blues cliche beer bottle solo is so completely stale that further comment is pointless. This is a man showboating to the yuppie masses (who loved him, by the way, so what do I know) and hamming it up like a true professional. I actually feel sorry for the guy; the two best songs he played at the Feat show were his "pop" originals, neither of which really had anything to do with the "blues", and neither of which really fit in with the rest of the set: "Man's, man's World" (awful), "Hootchie Kootchie Man" (what again?) etc. An embarrassment both to the blues and even Nanaimo (ouch!). - Thu, 10 Jul 2003 1:44am
Zippgunn User Info... | Oh yeah, hey Crazylegs, the Vienna gig is an old LP (y'know big black plastic thing) so... Plus it's worth some dough I think. But I'll burn it for ya if you like. - Thu, 10 Jul 2003 2:03am
