| Peter User Info... | As if anyone cares, but I'm hoping that this will be my last post on livevic. It has become a ridiculous habit for me. This is my first messageboard experience and I want to thank you all for teaching me what "threads" are and I'm sorry for being such a "troll" and always "flaming". In all honesty, I'm disgusted at myself for participating in the virtual facsimile of human interaction. I'm sure everyone that posts are normal, cool people but I can't control the urge to be a complete prick. Sorry to be such a self-indulgent dork. | Gman User Info... | Peter! I will be sad that I am writing this and you will never read it. Back in 1982 when my da bought us a modem for xmas (300 baud ~.3k in today's terms,) I learned very quickly that the first thing everyone did upon getting their modem was to 'flame' everyone else. In later years, this got known as the influx of "Christmas Modem Kiddies". This was back when the internet didn't really exist. These were all local BBSs which meant that inevitably, you'd meet the people you'd been trashing. They would always be forgiving and kind. Except for the assholes, but fuck them, eh? Over time, the urge towards knee-jerk reactions subsides (for most, as you may have noticed.) Then you can get to the real meat: cleverly worded retorts mixed with the occasional actually useful post! Like many many things, mastery of internet message boards takes time and effort: you certainly wouldn't expect to be able to fly a helicopter all of a sudden, would you? You'd probably crash! Also, I might take issue with your bringing up the thing about the internet being simulacra (or a similarly spelled word). All communication is mediated: I could be standing right beside you and yet, our communication is mediated not only by the English language (and its many disadvantages,) but also by the air and even by our acknowledgely misunderstood perception of the physical world itself! ... and yet, I agree with you completely. | some girl... User Info... | You worded it pretty well Gman: messageboards take some time to ease into/get used to. I'm actually kinda hated on another board by an individual who continually takes everything I say wrong (but I don't care since he probably is just insecure with himself). Actually, come to think of it, it takes a pretty secure (or in my case: bored) individual to post. Messageboards are more like "venting-boards". I love a good slagfest as long as it doesn't involve some kid taking on another person's alias: that's just immature and taking things to idiotic extremes. ps. good for you Peter. I was new to it too and with the help of some regulars (Some Girl, Iso, Ross B AY, Wreaker) and a few others, I learned not to get worked up about things because in most cases (Wreaker) that was exactly what they were trying to accomplish!
