Message Board > General Chitchat > Where to get prop guns? |
J. Peatman User Info... | I'm currently developing a little movie project that will require the use of 1 or 2 prop handguns. Does anyone know where I would go to rent or perhaps purchase these? The real thing would be sweet too, ofcourse. I figured someone on LiveVic might know before I made an inquiry with the Vic Film Society, who probably require a membership for such things. - Fri, 13 Feb 2009 12:19pm
JDL User Info... | depends what kind of replica you're looking for. If its just a standard 9mm look-alike; you cant get anything that isn't a see thru-body w/orange tip. BUT, you can order them online from various sites. Email me @ [email protected] I can give you better direction there. - Fri, 13 Feb 2009 3:14pm
Lonemonk User Info... | Perhaps an overly glib thing for me to say, but it might be easier these days to get a couple of real guns than good look-alikes. - Tue, 17 Feb 2009 1:25pm Edited: Tue, 17 Feb 2009 1:25pm
JDL User Info... | lol, not very far off from the truth there... sadly. its a touchy item to get a hold of; because legally nobody can hold a replica without marks of it being fake(ie, orange tip, clear body etc...) BUUUUT, I was thinking about it and Im sure places like langham court could help you find something. Or, you could just go to Canadian Tire and pick up a couple pellet guns(which look exactly like the real deal); granted you could probably only find a big ass revolver .45 look a like, but at least its a start. - Wed, 18 Feb 2009 12:48pm
Lonemonk User Info... | I've never been able to figure that out. I often see pretty real looking pistols in the pellet gun variety, but have no idea why they don't need to be orange or marked in some way. In the middle of a robbery or some such, people are unlikely to question whether it is a pellet/bb gun or the real thing by the way they look. Addtionally, whether clear or orange-tipped, what would stop one from either spray-bombing or dipping the entire thing in black paint? - Thu, 19 Feb 2009 10:01am Edited: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 10:02am
JDL User Info... | the reasoning behind that is the pellet guns; while they look like they're real, are not scale replica's(most of the time) and they have no slide/loading action or pin movement(for the 9mm look-a likes). The orange tip, yeah I've tried spraying it, dipping it in black paint but you can still tell the difference because the plastic is a different shade from the black that I used. A friend of mine tried to(who's into paintballing) bring back a replica scale air-soft gun(plastic pellets) arcoss the boarder along with a scale replica paintball "marker" and the guards took a look at both of them and because the "airsoft" gun was not considered a "marker" and that it was a scale(metal) replica of a sig-sauer(.45 cal handgun) they took the airsoft and almost charged him with weapons transporting! but because he was an avid paintballer and had all his gear with him, they let him off the hook and took his airsoft gun(which set him back almost 250$). a kool site to check out : http://www.rap4.com (i think) or at least search for rap 4 paintball. There's ALOT of scale replica's there(w/out the orange tip) but good luck getting them across the boarder lol. - Thu, 19 Feb 2009 12:35pm
J. Peatman User Info... | Thanks for the input guys. I realized that given this will be my first venture into movieland I was probably thinking too high profile. Meanwhile I got my hands on some toy Glock-type guns which will probably be just fine once weighed down and painted appropriately. I will however check out the armory at Canadian Tire. Concerning real guns...I will actually be looking into getting a license some time this year, but don't want to get caught running around with any hot weapons before then, as this would get me kicked out of the country when my five years are up next year. By the way, those orange tips...they don't come off at all do they? - Thu, 19 Feb 2009 3:19pm
Jl User Info... | nope... the orange tips are there to stay. - Thu, 19 Feb 2009 4:44pm
