SoundGarden User Info... | SoundGarden Nightclub PRESENTS... "East Coast Invasion" From Montreal BIONIC + very special guests From New Yorks Tee Pee Records BAD WIZARD & Locals The Fine Options Sunday, November 17/ 2002 (8pm) Early Show!!! SoundGarden 1630 Store St x Fisgard VICTORIA, BC Age 19+/ General Admission TICKETS: $6 only at the door BIONIC IS: JONATHAN CUMMINS - GUITAR/VOCALS PAUL JULIUS - DRUMS/VOCALS IAN BLURTON - GUITAR/VOCALS TIM DWYER - BASS/VOCALS Okay sports fans, here's the skinny: Jonathan Cummins formed Bionic after he left A&M recording artists The Doughboys in search of something a bit more rocking. After all, eight and half years of playing power pop is enough drive anybody batty. Bionic came out with both guns blazing and quickly recorded their debut record at Le Studio (Rush, Ramones, The Police etc.) with co producer Glenn Robinson (Voivod, The Tea Party). The end result has been heralded as "one of the most brutalizing pop records since Husker Du's 'Zen Arcade'. Melody Makers Neil Kulkarni gave it 4 1/2 stars, describing it as One of the most instantly thrilling, richly rewarding rock LPs Ive heard". Hour magazine went the full five stars, claiming Bionics self-titled debut is quite simply the best rock album Ive heard in a very long time. With the addition of Canadian guitar hero Ian Blurton (Blurtonia, ex Change Of Heart,) the band began touring Canada relentlessly, performing with comrades Jesus Lizard, Tricky Woo, New Bomb Turks, Danko Jones, Sum 41 and treble charger, culminating with an opening slot in Montreal for none other their childhood heroes KISS on the 1999 Psycho Circus tour. Bionic went on hiatus in 2000 while the band sorted through some lineup changes. Cummins formed legendary side-project The Electric Brains with Tricky Woo frontman Andrew Dixon and Perm/PaperRoutes Simon Nixon. Ian Blurton unveiled the straight-up rock outfit Blurtonia, to instant acclaim. But the Blurton/Cummins alliance would not be denied. With the addition of drummer Tim Dwyer and bassist Paul Julius, Bionic was back as a fierce rock unit and Cummins' was once again writing for the next record. Bionic hooked up with Lookout records madmen The Gaza Strippers to tour over thirty dates throughout Spain, France, Germany, U.K., Sweden, Norway, Italy and more in the spring of 2001. This new, harder rocking Bionic blew away thousands of fans, promoters and journalists, prompting one Kerrang reviewer to liken Bionics performance to Queens Of The Stone Age buttfucking the Hellacopters with Bad Religion clapping along. Returning home completely rejuvenated, Bionic found a renewed interest in the band and respond by touring across Canada and parts of the U.S. in the summer of 2001. Having written the majority of the songs in-between these two tours Bionic finally recorded their new record "Deliverance" in the winter of 2002. The album is more rock, less punk than the first album, and marks a return to the AC/DC - ZZ Top influences of Jonathans teenage years. If their debut was a brutalizing pop record then "Deliverance", is easily one of the most blistering rock albums you will ever hear. Deliverance is currently available in Canada and will be released in Europe and the UK in January 2003 on Swedens Lunasound Recordings. 'My favorite records are Prince records, absolutely.' Wizard's second CD, Sophisticated Mouth, is closer to Deep Purple than Purple Rain; this Seventies-style stoner-rock band would sound at home on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack...Don't expect him to tone it down. 'You know,' Brown says, 'rock & roll has always been about sex.' " ---Rolling Stone "Musicians often play tongue in cheek homage to Sixties and Seventies garage punk and metal in order to be clever or funny. Then there's Bad Wizard. True retro-revivalists who sonically refresh." ---Revolver "This New York City answer to the great Zen Guerilla make plenty of demands when it comes to making rock 'n' roll, but theirs are the demands of old. Their music, a throwback to the testosterone fueled, tight-in-the-crotch rock of the '70s, is all about the good times --a get drunk, get sweaty and get down kinda sound that would work as well riling up a biker bar on the outskirts of nowhere as it would pumping up a hip urban rock club." ---Alternative Press Sound King Recor BIONIC's web site http://www.bionicland.com Bad Wizards Website: http://www.teepeerecords.com/badwizard/ Information: In North America contact Sound King Records, 723-G Bloor St. West Toronto M6G 1L5 ph 416-948-4820 fax 416-593-6275 The SoundGarden Tamara Tulloch (250) 380-2733 [email protected] - Thu, 14 Nov 2002 2:33am | ||
