Sparkles | Hey, this is to all the fucking zombies who piss on "pop rock" etc. What bullshit! I'm going to be the first on this board to admit to liking popular music. There are an overwhelming amount of posts on this board slagging any band that becomes "popular" So guess what? If the general concensus is that popular music sucks then by association "underground" or unpopular music is popular. Hot Hot Heat for example, when they where unpopular everyone had good things to say about them, now because apparently they are popular, they fucking suck. Nickelback is having the same response. Anyway, just want some opinions here. I can't rant worth shit so someone hold up the torch. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 11:15am
Anonymous | i like pop music as well...but the problem with nickelback is that there is no progression in their music. not that they are popular. they've released the same cd three times now... - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 12:58pm
aronovich | ZZ Top released the same album about 50 times but they are still cool. What's the point of slagging an unknown band? Who would care? You might as well just email them directly or tell them in person.. or even better pay to see them play and heckle. Or perhaps buy their CD just so you could smash it to bits or burn it to ensure that one less person had access to it. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 1:16pm
Anonymous | i prefer bands whose songs aren't so similar to one another that they're virtually interchangeable. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 1:18pm
Myka User Info... | I've NEVER had anything good to say about Hot Hot Heat. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 1:40pm
Shaggy User Info... | Ya go pop when you lose your "edge". Just complacency taking it's toll is all. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 4:55pm
mediocrity | There's always been people who dislike hot hot heat. One of the first posts I ever saw on livevictoria (way back on the old board) was about how they must be gay or some stupid shit like that. If you're a band, I think its way better to have some people that absolutely fucking hate you and some that totally fucking love you then be a band that everyone thinks is "okay" - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 5:38pm
Masturbating The War God User Info... | Not everything 'mainstream' is good, and good god not everything that is underground is a fucking gem. This pertains to ALL forms of music. - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 6:04pm
Ike | In my opinion Nickleback sucks and should be playing a mall tour where as Queens of the Stoneage rule and should be Headlining at Thunderbird Stadium. However, neither of them are that original, that creative or that mind blowing. They don't push the boundaries. For the most part, the bands that push the boundaries play at places like Steamer's and Sound Garden. Its as simple as this: Nickleback write songs that could be used in an Elvis Stojko figure skating routine and Queens of the Stoneage write songs that could be used in a Don Cherry Rock em' Sock em' video. Is one really better or more relevant than the other? Or do you just prefer triple lutz's to bone crushing body hits? - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 6:57pm
Sparkles | Now, Funny thing is I agree with most of you. Nickelback is not one of the bands that I like, and I've never heard Hot hot heat (I think). - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 7:14pm
Areo | Many people judge a band based on marketing (whether good or bad), and this seems pretty stupid to me. I respect Nickelback for their hit-writing ability. Also, I wouldn't slag them, because there are thousands of Nickelback wannabe bands out there that just aren't the same caliber. The fact that Nickelback has risen to the top of a very competitive industry testifies to their ability. Maybe these bands don't play what you want to hear, but undoubtably they have a better job than you do, and so who's laughing at the end of the day, huh?? - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 7:42pm
aronovich | Which is exactly why they get slagged. I hate everyone who is doing better than I am. Miserable enough? - Tue, 12 Nov 2002 7:59pm
