BBJones User Info... | Seems the adults are reverting back to children in the absence of bright pink warning messages from the landlord... 2 RULES you retards NO JAMMING AFTER 10pm - The clock doesn't reset at midnight so no, you can't start jamming at 3am believing it is a new day and technically before 10pm - The only way you get around this is play quietly (electric shit turned down only) or you have properly soundproofed your unit. I know for a fact that NONE of you have becuase it would cost about $3000+ to do it right. KEEP YOUR GARBAGE IN YOUR UNIT - There are people running businesses on the bottom floor. They are sick of cleaning up your broken empties, cigarette butts and McDonalds garbage EVERY MORNING. Since you're all totally incapable of showing respect to your fellow muscians and tennants in the ONLY building nearby that allows 15+ bands to practice, things are going to change. He're what you can expect: - If you are playing past 10pm, expect other tennants to tell you to stop. If you continue, epxect other tennants to ask that you be evicted by Sutton. - Infrared Security cameras are going up that will cover the balcony. Evictions will be requested for anyone recorded throwing garbage over the balcany (not to mention taking a piss). - I'm going to see what I can do about getting Sutton to put a TAX on the place (costing everyone more money) to pay for the daily cleaning of the parking lot. - Keep it up and you can expect to see your names/band posted as being the culprits. So far, we've all been holding off keeping things annonymous. Don't think for a second that it meant we didn't know whos was doing what. Don't like these ideas? Too fucking bad. Stop acting like a fucking 6 year old (yes you just got younger asshole) thinking you can treat the jamspots like your own personal party house. Or better yet MOVE THE FUCK OUT and go get your own jamspot far away form the rest of us that give a shit. Nothing new here, do whatever the fuck you want inside your unit as long as you abide by the rules and respect everyone around you. Just remember, there will always be another band ready to take your place. Well... except maybe 107 with that fucking horrible chemical smell... Carry on children. Oh, and SPREAD THE WORD. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 12:04pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 12:09pm
Mike User Info... | hear hear! my band has been very dedicated to stopping at 10pm even as other bands we hear continue to jam.. The letters from Sutton are still on most doors, not sure what part about that letter people arent getting, but the fact that Sutton hasnt said anything in the past couple of months does not mean that they arent keeping tabs on the place. I could personaly care less what other band rooms do if it doesnt effect my band, but the fact that Sutton has taken an 'evict all instead of ask questions' stance means it effects everyone, so yah I gotta say, to the other bands in that place if you are abusing this rule, wake the fuck up! - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 1:28pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 1:28pm
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | In the early nineties when we jammed there, this implement was quite effective in enforcing these (ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NECESSARY) policies. It's especially important to hammer home to these ignorant, oblivious-as-shit fucks is the concept of informing their FRIENDS (dudes who've never been to the space before, or those "first dates", or freaks from the bar, etc.....) these RULES, regardless of how much of a buzz-kill it'll very likely be. partying vs. preservation of music spaces? Like - DUH!!!!! kids/musicians will be kids/musicians! - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 2:05pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 2:05pm
Jigsaw User Info... | I hope this isn't directed at our unit because we have been following the rules since those notices went up! None of us want to lose our jamspot so whom ever the fuck is doing this STOP! As far as the garbage goes there is a garbage can below the stairs dont be so lazy....... GEEZ! I like what BBJones said so i will end on that note. Carry on children. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 2:52pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 2:55pm
Corporal Jigsore Quandary User Info... | I was there this weekend partying till the wee hours but I was a guest! Good luck trying to strong arm any band members like I said before, a lot of these guys have the I’m already a rock star so lets party attitudes. Which is really sad considering they are still in Victoria. I rented there a long time ago and the rent is cheap not sure if it still is, I think if you were actually paying what you should be per square foot, you would weed out some of the problem. Maybe if they paid more for rent they would have less money for booze and drugs! - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 3:33pm
J. Peatman User Info... | All the last posted notice said was "NO NOISE AFTER 10." Doesn't this just simply refer to the local noise bylaw? And in particular to those bands who were stupid enough to play with their doors wide open? I have personally NEVER perceived any band jamming with their doors closed after 10 PM as excessive noise while walking outside on the street. Especially once you turn the corner onto Aldebury where the residences start. Jamming after 10 PM with doors closed and within acceptable sound levels, perhaps aided by some sound proofing, should be completely reasonable. Have their been any complaints from local residents while all doors were closed? Has Sutton put up any further notices or sent out any other communications about the matter in the nearly 5 months since the last one? I'd like to hear that side of the story plus a clear definition of the 10 PM rule from a real building authority before I can take all this unnecessary tough and condescending talk seriously. And furthermore: -Good that there will finally be REAL cameras installed instead of empty cases and empty promises of a previous landlady. -If you think adding tax is necessary, maybe think about getting a dumpster with a monthly pick up placed on the property again. The jamspaces create a fair bit of garbage and recycling, and not everyone is in the position of taking their garbage home to dispose of it. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 3:39pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 3:48pm
Mike User Info... | thing is it doesn't matter about actual authority because being commercial Sutton can boot us out regardless. Sure we can contest it till we are blue in the face but they can counter by doubling rent. And from what I understand the noise bylaws were changed specifically to address that area. But of course nobody knew of that meeting haha. All the bylaws are online at the ESq. City hall website or one can call there. I think that Sutton got sick of all the calls from neighbours and bylaw officers and regardless of bylaws they are sick of dealing with it and unfortunately have enough power to shut it all down rather than argue with the municipality over noise bylaws... Don't forget they are managing a lot of commercial prop in that area for a lot more than they make off bands so it is in their best interests to be buddies with the city. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 4:03pm
KRIEG User Info... | Is this thread a result of bands jamming after 10, or about bands playing WITH DOORS LEFT WIDE-FUCKING-OPEN. Because I certainly think that, combined with large groups of after hour "guests" are the real problems down there. Regardless, I agree with BBJ's post. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 4:14pm
Dirk Diggler User Info... | They could be making way more renting to businesses that actually generate an income and can pay market rent. Food for thought! The more problems the less likely they will want to continue to rent to bands. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 4:26pm Edited: Tue, 9 Dec 2008 4:41pm
Spinvis User Info... | Why don't people just name names? Wouldnt that sort out the problem more instead of always being anonymous? Lets get to the root of the problem. - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 5:52pm
trevor corey User Info... | I like to party hardy down there. WHOOOOOO! - Tue, 9 Dec 2008 6:07pm
Corporal Jigsore Quandary User Info... | "Why don't people just name names? Wouldnt that sort out the problem more instead of always being anonymous? Lets get to the root of the problem" Yes, would be a great idea, accept these dudes have their band pride and Like the infamous Dan long said "Nobody likes a rat bitch", so they refuse to "rat" each other out! They would rather get the whole building shut down then actually reveal the culprits! smart guys! - Wed, 10 Dec 2008 8:59am
BBJones User Info... | We'll likely start getting to that if the bullshit continues after the cameras are in. The last thing we need is start a "yes you did - no I didn't" war. Remember, we're dealing with 6 year olds... video doesn't lie. - Wed, 10 Dec 2008 10:26am
