Gman | I dunno about anyone else, but as long as I can remember using computer chat/forum boards, flaming, idiocy, over-reaction, and the occasional interesting post are pretty much the standard. That people would get genuinely offended by this idle crap and then take it outside of this context is pretty rare. That in mind, I've gotta say that I find the reactions of The Perish pretty fucking infantile. Anyone who's actually been in performance for any time knows: 1. Watch what you say to people, especially the press. It *will* show up somewhere else. 2: Regardless, *any* publicity is *good* publicity. This is always true. ALWAYS. So, seems to me that The Perish isn't really interested in publicity and doesn't really understand show business. But what do I know anyway? Gman - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 2:10pm
The Ref | I have pretty much stayed out of that thread because I know little to nothing about them, but I have to agree with the Gman on all his points. Infantile slagging makes the music community in this city look bad. If they are no good, then no good will come from what they are trying to do... On the other hand, if they are good and have the drive, then more power to'em! Perhaps Scott (Live Vic) should concider having two Liv Vic sites. One for underage and one for over 18... I say this becuase I feel that allot of the slagging comes from kids. It's apparent (to me anyways) in their writings. This would leave an adult (haha) board for more serious like minded individuals to comment more realistically on the topics of the day, without the constant childish slagging that goes on... Adult arguements are one thing, childish fighting is another (and yes I am a tad guilty on both fronts). What do you think Scott? This is a great site, I start my day with it for a laugh or some valuable info, get tired of the crap though... - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 2:22pm
Anon386 | All you have to do to lose the idiots is post paragraphs, avoid excessive profanity, and use your vocabulary. I don't think age segregation will help much though. Some of the younger people learn from throwing out provocative comments. A slight improvement to the board that forces login, translating to only being able to go by one handle, will help immensely. The problem with the board becoming more interesting is that it will cut down into productive time spent meeting people in person or actuly working on music. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 2:48pm
Gman | I dunno if age is too much of a determinant in whether someone is going to be a slagger or not - I really don't think there's any way to completely prevent people from starting flame wars, etc. I just think it's inherent in systems like this. I just think it's silly to take it seriously. Also, I'm not wasting time around here - I don't even have the internet at home... just here... at work. Gman - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 3:00pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Yeah, the combination of anonymous posting and no moderation pretty well means there's no way of getting rid of the slaggers and morons.... That is, no way to change the rules to get rid of them..... It's possible that they may get bored and go away if we stop paying attention.... It's simple playground psychology!! Ignore the bully, and they go away.... - Wed, 18 Jun 2003 2:18am
