Anonymous | Yeah. Springsteen. It's only cool to like obscure punk or metal bands. Did you not know that? 15-year-old typical live Victoria dude. - Thu, 5 Jun 2003 10:34pm
Anonymous | As opposed to generic radio rock? Give me a fucking break. - Thu, 5 Jun 2003 10:40pm
Ever feel like killing your boss? | Springsteen has progressed from a mildly interesting "roots" kinda rocker to the worst example of the cynical exploitative hack ever to walk down the pike. I could almost forgive the FIVE LP live box, or the unlistenable and amateurish Nebraska but when he hit the airwaves with his "I love America" song scant weeks after 911 I thought of the guy who, upon hearing about 911, immediately ordered thousands of tiny US flags... at half mast. Sold them immediately and cashed in on the tragedy. Just like the "Boss", who makes me like the idea of Al Qaida flying a plane into his oversized ego. Beyond useless. - Fri, 6 Jun 2003 12:56pm
ticklefish | it is clear you have never actually listened to his lyrics. If you paid any attention to his "the Rising" album, you would be very aware how much he opposed the idea of using war to fight back, you would understand that his view is that America needs to listen to compassion, and that hatred begets hatred. Nebraska is one of his best albums by a long shot, and as a story teller, few get better than him. The Ghost of Tom Joad is one of the most haunting, sad and moving albums ever recorded, and the direction he took on that one never once spells "ego". He stood up for the Dixie Chicks with their vocal criticism of Bush. I haven't liked all his songs, but you clearly do not pay any attention to what he actually says. You proabably also think that "Born in the USA" is a patriotic song.... listen before you make judgement next time. ANd I am glad that you won't be in the audience for the tribute show. - Fri, 6 Jun 2003 3:25pm
Jo Fancy User Info... | Bruce Springsteen is one of the most avidly peace loving, anti-establishment artists in america, though horribly misconstrued. the Rising & the ordeal about the flags at half mast were not about supporting any war or any government that thought as much, rather the complete opposite. The album & his basis of ideologies is about how proud his is to be american, indeed, but also that the two things that keep americans down above all are wars & the govenments that start them. His distribution of half mast flags was an act of commemoration for thousands of people that he felt had died because they had put too much trust in their govenment & ultimately paid the price for the govenment's horribly irresponsible actions & lac of compassion for people both within & outside of the gates america. It's really easy to say that Bruce is a patriot & therefor a supporter of the government, but that is tripe- he is a patriot in the sense that he is american, proud of it & feels that as an american he deserves better than the swill the fat suits at the top dole out. Songs like "American Skin (41 shots)", written about a black man that was shot some 41 times for nothing other than sitting on his front porch & being black, are some of few mainstream, mass produced songs that openly & avidly speak out against the amount of power, trust & absolute faith that far too many people place without question in police & politicians. He is quite possibly the only grammy award winning, majorly succesful artist that has been threatened to be publicly labeled a traitor to America, as well as being so brave as to take stage to play "American Skin" even after being told that he would face prison if he were to play, in that the police felt it would insite a riot. "In this age, blind faith in anything, even your government, will get you killed." He is one of the good guys, american wise & calling Bruce Sprinsteen a flag waving Bush lover is embarrasingly misenformed, uneducated tripe- you are horribly, horribly, deplorably wrong. - Fri, 6 Jun 2003 10:40pm
Jo Fancy User Info... | I'm terribly sorry that that was as rediculously long winded as it was. My bad, gangsters. - Fri, 6 Jun 2003 11:06pm
astute observer | Hmmm. Those half mast flags again. Aren't they on another post somewhere? - Sat, 7 Jun 2003 2:35am
