Nev (The Webmaster) User Info... | To whom it may concern. I've done some fiddling and changed the big broad genres that shows and bands are sorted into. I created a new genre for Reggae/Ska/Dub and the likes. Just thought I'd give you the heads up. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 2:22am
Jesse | So where would One Drop fit into the catagories? I think the more segragated the genres are, the more segragated the people will be. Which will inevitably lead to more "ska sucks", "metal is for skids" or the obvious "Hip Hop isn't even music". Just a thought - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 2:59am
Anonymous | The Likes? What kind of music do they play? - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 3:00am
The Mad Subwoofer User Info... | Dub, heavy metal and punk rock all go hand in hand for me. All physical, hard hitting and dramatic vibes. Black Flag, Black Sabbath, the Melvins...dub; all different means to the same end. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 3:24am
Livevic Scott User Info... | Well Reggae used to be attached to the Folk catagory which isn't really right at all so a new catagory was made.... and the Ska stuff was attached to punk... which fits ok but it goes better with reggae if its got its own catagory. It's mostly just so you can go in and say what types of music you like and be able to find new things that interest you out of a see of shows and bands you might not normally recognize or know. With the genre's properly set out the chances of randomly going to a show that you don't know anything about the bands and really diggin the stuff is greatly increased. He's just talking about the "live music" listings and how they're sorted - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 11:22am
Anonymous | any reason a bunch of school ceremonies come up when you search the ska/dub/reggae? - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 1:05pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Are there even any real "reggae" bands in Victoria? Other than People's War, that is? - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 2:40pm
Anonymous | I think catagorising is a great idea...no wait, it usually leads to bad things happening like Avril Lavigne in the Punk section, or Kenny G in the Jazz section at music stores. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 2:57pm
Anonymous | Categorizing is a necessary evil. Just deal with it. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 3:29pm
King Bong User Info... | Gerefication is a desease..I agree with One Drop....we will get slapped into the ska/punk gere despite the fact that we are not really a ska band, and not really a punk band , and not really a funk band...and I understand why you're doin it Nev and Scott..just thought I'd throw in my two cents.. Peace Kola - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 4:49pm
Anonymous | I like it. It is not like Live Vic is telling you what genre you are in, they are just trying to group bands of similar styles. More specific grouping will help find shows and bands contact info. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 5:35pm
Jerry | we need two cats: good, bad. Bong goes in the latter. Amen. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 8:29pm
Anonymous | Yeah, them King Bong people are bad cats alright! - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 8:56pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | You know you can also use more then one genre discription to discribe a show/band .... geez you people are negitive about everything. It's just so when someone who dosen't have ANY idea what kinda group you are will realize they're going to a latin show and not an indie rock show ... thats it we're not trying to force a label on you... this is why you can type in whatever you want next to your band description. We just have to have some basic genre's set up so that the PHP sort works properly. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 9:17pm
Anonymous | just so y'all know- when i come to the page initially the ska/reggae..'s default is to be not activated; therefor i wont automatically get to see posted shows in this genre. - Wed, 4 Jun 2003 10:04pm
