| Scoop | Last Night The first incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. when police received reports of an erratic eastbound car on Fort Street. "The passenger was kicking open the door and legs were hanging out of the moving vehicle," said Sgt. Les Sylven, Victoria police. Eventually the car, operated by a female in her 20s, smashed through a fence and struck a transformer near Central Middle School, near the intersection of Fort Street and Moss Street. A short power outage resulted. The impact of the crash knocked the transformer off its base, said Victoria Fire Department battalion chief Ted Alexis. The occupants are lucky the car didn't become energized. "They could have been electrocuted," said Alexis, who added they were taken to hospital for observation. A couple of hours later, at about 2:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a Blue Bird taxi stolen outside of a Yates Street nightclub. While the driver was robbed by a man believed to be armed with a knife outside the cab, a backseat passenger climbed into the driver's seat and sped off. The car travelled the wrong way on a one-way street, while crashing into parked cars, until it slid off the road hitting a parked car. Police cars surrounded the cab on Old Esquimalt Road near Head Street and arrested the driver. A 19-year-old man is charged with seven counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, robbery with a weapon, dangerous driving, impaired driving, failing to comply with a probation order and fleeing from police. | J.J. | I heard at work today that they actually tried to rob him while he was driving. They tried to stab him so he jumped out of the car. Thats when they stole the car and took it for a joyride and then totalled it. The thing that I find sad is that this is not the first time this kind of thing has happened to the driver. He has been beaten up and robbed at least three or four times. He is a little chinese man who just bought his cab about a month ago who does not have very good judgement about the people he picks up.
