BBJones User Info... | Or another way to say it is choose environment over Conservatives. The basic idea if, if things are close where a Conservative member might win, you vote for whoever is most likely to beat them regardless of what party they are from. This site keeps you up to date: http://www.voteforenvironment.ca/ This site is a petition to support the idea: http://www.avaaz.ca/ca/stop_harper_pledge/?cl=135366164&v=2254 Direct link to Saanich/gulf Islands: http://www.voteforenvironment.ca/node/127 Our Pick Briony Penn, Liberal Party of Canada Vote splitting elected oil-friendly and pro-nuclear Conservative Cabinet Minister Gary Lunn in this riding. The NDP and Liberals came in neck-and-neck with a strong Green Party vote as well. NOTE: The NDP candidate has dropped out of the race. This is now one of the most important ridings in the country and Conservative candidate Gary Lunn will likely go down if the NDP votes move to the Liberals and voters vote for the environment instead of based on partisan politics. Briony Penn is our recommendation and has the best chance at defeating Conservative Gary Lunn. Please tell your friends to vote smart! Important note: Our picks are based on polling data and local information available at that time. More recent polling can make it appear that a different candidate is a more appropriate pick. Our picks will be revised on the evening of October 10. Please feel free to send us your ideas, feedback and suggestions on the home page. trevor corey User Info... | The Conservatives aren't that bad. I'm not voting for them, but everyone else in the country is. .....but yeah, I hate vote splitting. We need a new electoral system. The right wing was victim of this for years, splitting the vote between the Reform Party and Tories. Maybe this is why the Americans only have two parties. - Thu, 9 Oct 2008 10:56am

BBJones User Info... | Yeah Trev, she's hot! Last chance to kick out the Conservatives... - Tue, 14 Oct 2008 9:37am
Chopper User Info... | 'The basic idea if, if things are close where a Conservative member might win, you vote for whoever is most likely to beat them regardless of what party they are from.' If I don't agree with a party and their platform, I'm not going to vote for them. It sucks there's no NDP candidate. Their platform is actually pretty good, imho. - Tue, 14 Oct 2008 10:09am
DOOMHAMMER User Info... | remember every vote matters! great job getting rid of those conservatives, time well spent sticking it to the man! - Tue, 14 Oct 2008 8:58pm
BBJones User Info... | It was a bust. Lowest voter turnout in history and another minority government. I just hope our international reputation (and the environment) can withstand another 2 years of this nonsense. - Wed, 15 Oct 2008 8:31am
Tyler User Info... | if there's a party and platform that I agree with, I'm going to vote for them regardless of "strategy" or taking down a greater evil. that's what I did this time. I'm in the esquimalt-JDF riding and the liberal got the seat, I think. did anyone see those "take down young punks" pamphlets distributed through the mail by Gary Lunn? dude hates punk rock. - Wed, 15 Oct 2008 8:44am
DOOMHAMMER User Info... | Its a system in which one party gets 9.7% of the votes and 50 seats, and another party gets 6.8% and 0 seats. 59.1% of canada went out and cast a vote, which brings us down to 115th place world wide. Thats right inbetween Sao Tomé / Principe and the Solomon Islands! We're still three spots above Zimbabwe, but behind political powerhouses like Liechtenstein and Malawi. I've always liked a quote by Thomas Jefferson "The lesser of two evils is still evil" but he is also the guy that said “God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion…what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance?” You're more likely to die on route to vote than you are having your vote matter. The canadian electoral system is outdated and absurd, and I will in no way endorse it. But good luck planning for the next one, im sure you'll get it next time! - Wed, 15 Oct 2008 11:36am
kyle User Info... | if you refuse to take part, you have absolutely no right to bitch about the outcome. there are people in the world who literally kill and are killed every day for the right you candidly threw away. great job being an asshole, asshole. did it ever cross your mind that if voter turnout hadn't been at a record low for our country, the conservatives quite possibly wouldn't have been re-elected? even a broken system is better than no system. every vote does count, people are just too fucking lazy to realise it. if your party loses, at least you can say you tried. democracy's all about the bigger picture, and if you're not a part of it, suck it up. there's always next election. - Thu, 16 Oct 2008 2:38am
evilkleg User Info... | I completely agree with Kyle. The system, and democracy in general, would work a lot better if everyone "with an opinion" actually turned up to vote. When the apocalypse hits these non voting whiners are going to be the first people in line wanting the gov't to do something. - Thu, 16 Oct 2008 10:37am

Andrew User Info... | Why vote if none of the parties represent your views? we've got the american's bitch, harper. The used car salesman, layton, the guy who can barely speak english, dion, and an overweight ex-hippie trying to preach conservation, when you KNOW she just took 2 cheeseburgers to the dome. - Sun, 19 Oct 2008 11:05am
Hearse User Info... | Under the current rules, each vote is worth approx. $2 for the federal party you vote for. This is both a reason to vote and a reason not to. If you strongly support a party you know will not get elected, you can use your vote to fund them. If you support none of the parties, withholding your vote ensures they do not receive this funding. The 10,000,000 or so people who did not vote saved Canadians 20 million dollars in an election most people considered a waste of time and money. - Sun, 19 Oct 2008 2:21pm Edited: Sun, 19 Oct 2008 2:22pm
trevor corey User Info... | hmmmmmm........and what exactly are you doing with your life, young Andrew? All those people you just ripped are highly educated, intelligent, hard working , bilingual, proud Canadians. All that they are doing is trying to serve our country. Any one of them could easily make ten times their public service wages by working in the private sector. I like Jack, Dion's English is better than your French (it's just his accent), some people have a hard time with their weight no matter what they eat, especially if they've had kids, and Harper is most definitely NOT a Bush bitch. - Sun, 19 Oct 2008 2:26pm
Andrew User Info... | The only insult i will concede is the one about the overweight woman..yes my fellow canadian, some of us do have weight problems. But see, sometimes a party has to choose some1 who you actually want to look at, to bring in the votes. I bet they'd double the votes with some1 who doesn't look like a troll. am i good looking? no. but im not trying to be on tv lol. The rest are legit... Come on...look at jack layton...Can't you just imagine him trying to sell you a piece of shit car wih 200,000 k for top dollar? Maybe it's the cheesy radio anouncer voice..I dont know.... Dion is a really cool guy from what i could tell all around. But wouldn't it be better to choose some1 who can speak perfect french, and english? Doesn't it make sense? i guess im just a shitty canadian....im sorry guys! For a minute there i thought those clowns were working for me...which would give me the right to judge them..oh well...keep payin my taxes and Harper... Well, lets just let the picture speak for itself... - Sun, 19 Oct 2008 8:48pm
trevor corey User Info... | I guess by your logic, Shania Twain should be Prime Minister then? I never said you are a shitty Canadian. I think it is great that young people like you even care about politics. You underestimate Jack Layton though. - Mon, 20 Oct 2008 12:15am Edited: Mon, 20 Oct 2008 12:18am
kyle User Info... | I'd like to see Jack Layton get fucked in the ass by Elizabeth May. She's probably used to being the man in bed, so I doubt this is an unreasonable request. I would have happily voted Liberal if they'd had a different leader for this election, which would have completely avoided the whole green shift bullshit. The Harper-Bush comparisons are a very effective scare tactic used by the other political parties to gain clout. It wouldn't matter who the leader of the Conservative party was, or how moderate their agenda was. In Canada there is a long history of automatically pigeon-holing centre-right political ideology in with far right American conservatism, and this is a shame considering our two countries' vastly different political systems and history. This says more about the ignorance of the Canadian voters than the supposed evils of our Conservative party. It's just not cool to be Conservative these days. The biggest problem with the Liberal party is that they've largely abandoned their original rather centrist ideology in favour of a shift to the left to try and suck up votes from the NDP. Until they can cut the bullshit, (cause really who needs fucking NDP votes anyways?) a lot of right-leaning Liberals and left-leaning Conservatives are going to keep turning to the next best thing- the Conservative party. Fuck Jack Layton, that moustache makes him look like a pedophile. - Mon, 20 Oct 2008 3:50am
BBJones User Info... | I'd vote for Shania. Hot chicks get their way with old men. She would end up ruling the US along with Canada... until Pailin got in (after killing Superfries). Then there would be a cat fight, on national TV. I bet there would be at least one clothing malfunction... - Mon, 20 Oct 2008 9:09am Edited: Mon, 20 Oct 2008 9:11am
