SentencedtoBurn User Info... | Right on, good to see that a huge whack of metal bands are avoiding Vancouver with their tours. Let's all go to Seattle and support the American economy with our inferior peso-like dollars. All these bands play Toronto and Montreal, so it's not like getting over the border is a problem. In the next 2 months those of us who won't make it to Seattle will be missing the following bands: Blind Guardian, Shadows Fall, Immolation, Vader, Dark Tranquility, Strapping Young Lad (Vancouver band), Origin, Cattle Decapitation, Cannibal Corpse, Cephalic Carnage, Macabre, Nile, Napalm Death, etc. Why the fuck is this the case!?!? You idiots are missing out on huge crowds and the best dope in the world!! And Gwar doesn't count, because they suck shit. - Mon, 4 Nov 2002 2:27pm
Masturbating The War God User Info... | How many of those shows you listed are 21+ shows? I wish I was back in Holland!!! All those bands(basically) are playing in December(or have played countless times already!!!!)Fuck the states. - Mon, 4 Nov 2002 3:16pm
Scott Laming User Info... | 2 of the bands you mentioned JUST played both Victoria AND Vancouver. The rest probably are not comming over as crossing the boarder is a HUGE pain in the ass and Vancouver has a softer market the both Toronto and Montreal and here they can only come over for one show. So in their minds comming over the boarder for one show in Vancovuer is a big pain for one show. Where on the east coast they can get 2 shows both in bigger markets then Vancouver. If our doller wasn't so weak as you previously discribed they probably would hit up vancouver as for their huge pain in the ass they wouldn't also get fucked on the exchange. Blame economy and geographical location of other larger cities. - Mon, 4 Nov 2002 3:55pm

ML7Mike | Ive seen Napalm Death in Victoria too.. with Brutal Truth.. also have seen Entombed, Cryptopsy, Nevermore to name a few other big name metal bands.. Vancouver gets some good metal shows too, but obviously not as many as Seattle. The Canadian border tariff is a big part of it. Is it $500 per band still to cross the bordeR? well when a band is only going to make about $1000-$2000 for a show, and that usually covers ALL the bands on the tour, sometimes that tariff is a big turnoff.. not to mention minimum $150 each way per band on the ferry.. so think 3 bands on a tour, thats almost $1000 just to get on and off the island. As for why SYL is on your list, they've played 4 shows in Victoria in the last 4 years, and probably twice that in Vancouver. Lastly, alot of the aforementioned bands WOULD come to Victoria with a contract gaurantee.. A big part of getting these bands in are having local promoters with CONNECTIONS to the bands/labels and have big time advance notice that the bands are booking tours.. usually by the time Vic promoters know about a tour, its already booked. As far as I know there are only a couple of promoters in Victoria who do have deep connections in the music industry, and those promoters arent huge on booking metal. ( notice, no metal bands in Legends, Lucky, Sugar etc. ) The clubs we have that do support metal, and the promoters who book them just dont have the resources yet. Soundgarden and their crew are making a good attempt at it. Cannibal Corpse were rumored last summer btw, but that tour never happened. There is one very connected promoter out of Toronto ( same guy sent Cephalic, Cryptopsy/Candiria and Nevermore ) and he knows we exist at least. He has promised more bands.. - Mon, 4 Nov 2002 6:10pm
