| Anon386 | An opinion about music on Live Vic? Are you kidding? LOL! For music, this site is about what's wrong with things and general hatred with the odd spastic debate over something political. Many of the musicians and music lovers have left leaving the show review section empty and any sensible critiques almost non-existent. Live Victoria is almost dead besides the show listsings. Almost. | Anonymous | There front man is an awesome singer/songwriter. He far too often gets compared to other singers but those people are just uninformed or haven't even seen the band play. This guy is gonna go somewhere. The bass player getting slagged???? Come on, you got to be kidding me. He puts on the most showmanship of them all, that and he fucking rocks. The "lead guitar" and I use that term loosely.....I don't know, bring back the old guitarist, this guy they have now should stick to the drums or start his own band playing guitar. I think they need what they had, nothing against you new guy! Skin Beater..........fuckin` eh. Not a whole lot of people dig his style but watch this guy play. He must keep an extra pack a skins at his side cause he whoops dem drums. He showes his emotions while he plays, fun to watch.....and he better not hit on my girlfriend again!!! Drummers are sluts! Overall, the songs are there. Are they ready?? I think they will be soon. I think if they had kept the original bunch of guys together, they would have been there already. | Japanese Air Force | I've seen AC play a few times now. They go out of their way to put on a decent show and have great stage presence. The singer has a really strong and consistant voice. The keys/guitar player is tastefull and never steps on anyone's toes. The drummer is a seriously heavy hitter, but is solid and entertaining. The bass player is my favourite bass player in town right now. Great feel and note choice... my only problem with him is his Warwick bass. If you're looking for an honest opinion, I think Armchair Cynics are a great band and genuinely nice guys to boot. | Potatoe Cock User Info... | I thought the armchair cynics were cool because it seemed to me that everything revolved around the bass. It was cool because I had never seen a band do that before, and it gave a very generic but unique sound at the same time. They were playing very radio friendly music and I am not big into that but if you are than they are worth while for sure. Their singer is ok but he is nothing spectacular, but I would never go as far as to say he sucks, for he is better than most. Lead guitar and drums were pretty standard but they followed the bass and I am sure it takes some skill to write riffs for that. I saw them play with a band called Perfect Strangers last time and they were good, you should check them out, I think they have a CD. - Thu, 15 May 2003 3:22pm | ||

| Curious George | The Cynics are a very tight, professional sounding band. Ken is awesome, reminds me of a young (slightly less polished) Mike Patton. Adam, the guitar/synth guy, considering his age, is an excellent musician. His experiments with adding texture and harmony as opposed to the standard simple melody variation is definately a step in the right direction. Give him a few years, and he'll come into his own. Their drummer is solid. Nothing more, nothing less. Aran (bass) plays melodies, not bass lines. That's a good thing, and a bad. There are times when I think that he should sit back and just lay down the groove, but for the most part, he's creative and interesting. My problems with the Cynics are a simple matter of opinion, and could very easily disputed. I don't really care, it's just what I think. The Cynics, while solid and interesting, are just not innovative enough to stand out above the rest of the top-40 rock bands they will naturally be grouped with. You will never be disappointed at a Cynics show, but you also won't leave with a lasting impression. They need to incorporate some unique aspects that make them stand out -- take a look at Incubus if you want an example. My only other opinion is that Aran is distracting. PERSONAL OPINION, but he looks akward. His movement takes away from the rest of the presentation. Anyways, that's my take. Hope it helps. CG - Thu, 15 May 2003 6:47pm | ||
