spark We shall not take it anymore! Us "hippies" have been oppressed too long. The "man" is always coming down on us, trying to make us more like him than individuals. Now people our threatening to burn our dreadlocks! Man, I payed $200 at mosaic's for those! they threaten to brake our bongo drums ($130) and rip our hemp shirts ($56 on sale, the mod store in van.) - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:30pm
Son of Satan Yea mannnnnnn! Fist's in the air, no more fuckin with us hippies mann! Try ta burn my $300 dreads an I'll sick my mom's Bay Street lawyer on ya! My 100% naturally made hemp shirt cost mom $350, an if ya burn it, I'll be really pissed off mannnnnnnn!!!!!!! - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:41pm
Anonymous too bad as a hippie you have to be passive - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:47pm
Anonymous and peace loving - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:49pm
Hey Jonno Nothing starts a campfire better than hippy dreadlocks. Burn baby, burn. - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:55pm
Anonymous And if you are neither of these things then you aint a hippy! Maybe a freak though! Freaks look like hippies but like ta kick ass! - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:56pm
Hahahaha Plight and hippy in the same sentence - unfuckingreal. The plight of the hippy... next thing you know they'll be complaining about how long it takes to get to the front of the line at the welfare office. You monkeys make me sick. Stay in the forest where you fucking belong you useless pieces of shit. - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:25pm
Anonymous The best way to get rid of all hippies in Victoria; 1, tow a covered barge into the inner harbour.2, put a big sign on the front for all to see that says "earn money for nothing, without bathing or brushing teeth". 3,once the boat fills with stinkey hippies, a group of drunken longshoreman lock them inside. 4, the barge just sails away, never to be seen again. - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:39pm
Anonymous The best way to get rid of all niggers in Victoria; 1, tow a covered barge into the inner harbour.2, put a big sign on the front for all to see that says "earn money for nothing, without bathing or brushing teeth". 3,once the boat fills with stinkey niggers, a group of drunken longshoreman lock them inside. 4, the barge just sails away, never to be seen again.

Youy tell me, what's the difference? - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:46pm
Anonymous The difference is black people are usually hardworking. They also brush thier teeth. - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:48pm
Anonymous And unlike hippies, they wouldn't stupid enough to fall for large sign on a barge! - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:50pm
Anonymous That sounds like the perpetuation of a stereo type. Blacks are lazy and stupid. Jews want to rule the world. Hippies don't bath. They are all ignorant and unfounded. How can you object to one and ignore another. That's called hypocracy. Some people on this board are proving themselves to be hypocrits of the worst kind. You don't object when people talk about burning a hippie but get all righteous about "racism". Sorry you can't have it both ways. - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:51pm
Anonymous Its "bathe" not bath. Apparently hippies not only don't bathe, they don't go to school either. - Mon, 12 May 2003 8:57pm
Anonymous I know how to get rid of all the Hippies. 1) make pot legal 2) make water free 3) play hippy music on mtv 4) have enough jobs around so that people can afford to not be hippies.
Of course this won't cure the high school kids who run away from home to become hippies every summer, but that is nothing a shotgun or some really pure drugs can't cure. - Mon, 12 May 2003 9:43pm
Spark um, I posted this as a joke about a fashion trend and somehow it's become about racism? - Mon, 12 May 2003 9:43pm
Old Dude Just a word to the wise...
If you are under 50 years of age... then you ain't no hippie... you're just a wannabe, dressing up and playing at being something you never did - and never will - understand.

You had to have been there and lived in the times to understand it all.
This was the time of no cell phones, no computers (PC's), no fast food shit except MacD's, no Nike, no Yahoo, no RRSP's, no MTV & MM, no AIDS, no black metal, no rap crap, no politically correctness, etc., etc., etc.!
It was the time of MacD's selling 1,000,000 burgers, the Pill, gagging on the Beach Boys and the Supremes, getting "tuned in" and "turned on" by an incredible new wave of music that was blowing the industry wide apart and changing the entire culture of civilization as we know it.
It was also the time of great political unrest, the Iron Curtain, a total threat of nuclear war, far greater than what you may say looms today. Equal rights did not exist, abortions were in back alleys. The average wage for someone in their 20's was $50 a week.
If you didn't live it... you don't own it, can't bring it back and can never give an educated opinion on it... any more than you can comment on the first World War, or the fall of the Roman Empire. It's nothing but history now... it doesn't exist anymore.
Start something new... like we did.
Oh - and OOOPS!!!!
Don't remember any dreadlocks kiddies... that came later with Bob Marley and all "his" wannabes.
Guess you "authentic" hippies kinda goofed on that one...huh? - Mon, 12 May 2003 9:44pm
Anonymous Old hippy, new hippy, whats the difference? All should be sent to the fields to pick peas. - Mon, 12 May 2003 10:25pm
Old Dude It's all the difference in the world!
You just don't get it, do you? - Mon, 12 May 2003 10:50pm
Der Old Dude - Jeez you sound like a grumpy old codger. I was around in the sixties too. Believe me, the proto-type hippies weren't that much to brag about. Mostly a lot of goof-balls smoking hash all the time with half-baked "love the people" philosophies.

p.s. I thought the Supremes kicked ass. - Tue, 13 May 2003 1:06am
Anonymous I think this is the first time I have agreed with Der. the old hippies were annoying asses too. just a bunch of sleezy hippycrites trying to get laid by any means necessary. - Tue, 13 May 2003 1:52am
Anonymous and all that damn patchouli shite
smells like incence and stinky socks
lovely! - Tue, 13 May 2003 2:18am
Der I think it is the first time ANYONE'S agreed with me on this site. What a cool feeling!

Maybe I should run for political office under the "hippies are lame" platform ... no. Too soon. Too soon. Must bide my time.... - Tue, 13 May 2003 10:22am
Troutbreath Der, a guy named Tom 'Terrific' Campbell has already done that. He was the Mayor of Vancouver when Trudeau introduced the War Measures Act. Tom Teriffic tried to use that as an excuse to "clean up" Vancouver of all those lazy good fer nuthin' dope smokin' Hippies who you wouldn't want yer daughter to bring home. I was there and have the T-shirt to prove it. - Tue, 13 May 2003 11:02am
Old Dude Hey Der...
I didn't buy into the "hippie thing" either. I was into the music scene. Didn't do drugs... didn't sleep around... didn't protest. BUT: I was there when it all went down.
What I'm trying to say is that young people who represent themselves as "hippies" these days are trying to live a lifestyle they don't really understand and that cannot possibly exist in these times. Sometimes, when I see these people on the streets of Vic, it looks like their in "costume" or "drag" - dressing up and trying to be something that they can never be because it cannot be repeated. It doesn't seem genuine.
It's cool that they have "hippie" type beliefs. I'm all for non-aggression, saving the environment and peace. But just do your own thing... don't copy something from 35 years ago.
PS.:I don't know where you get the "grumpy old codger" from. Is it just because I'm older than you that you have to put me and my opinions down? Is it the "Don't trust anyone over 30 thing"?
Geez... that's from 35 years ago too!!! - Tue, 13 May 2003 11:17am
True Canadian Well said old dude! - Tue, 13 May 2003 11:58am
True Canadian Taken from another thread, pretty sad there people! -

sad state of morals in victoria - I am a recent visitor to this site and I must say that I am just aghast at all of the rampant sexism racism and just plain moral corruption displayed here.
I came here to read about musical events and meet with music lovers
from all walks of life, but sadly I will no longer visit this board.
I am disgusted.
shame on you live victoria. shame on you. - Mon, 12 May 1:44am - Tue, 13 May 2003 12:09pm
anon poster uhm, i wrote that as a joke, poking fun at the idea of the 'call' for censorship on this board. sorry you were tricked. just think,my sarcastic post could be a catalyst for tightening down on peoples freedom to speak, it's scary stuff that some fictional whiney poster(i invented) can potentially ruin an open forum. this is exactly the point i was trying to make regarding true canadians well meaning stance on issues such as race and oppression. when people start telling others what they can,and cannot say then we lose some diversity and sweep real threats under the carpet. i would rather hear oppinions i strongly disagree with than to be fooled that they do not exist in our community. - Tue, 13 May 2003 1:06pm
Anonymous You guys are fucking idiots. Anyone can be anything, even a hippy. Shit old dude copying something from 35 years ago? You were never a hippy if you think for one second being a hippy means you have to be over 50. Future generations can't be metalheads or punks since they weren't around for Slayer and The Sex Pistols? What kind of retarded comment is that. You sound like a white middle class rapper bitching that you ain't a homie unless you are from the hood. The close mindedness on this board is pretty astounding, the idiots leading the idiots. - Tue, 13 May 2003 3:21pm
anon poster whew, finally some common sense! - Tue, 13 May 2003 3:55pm
Teacherteacher Hmmmmm!!! Time travel! An interesting concept! Were it possible! - Tue, 13 May 2003 4:45pm
Amazed Yup, I'm gonna become a cromagnum man! No wait, I think I'll become an ancient Egyptian! No, better yet, I'll become sufferjet! Since we can so easily repeat lifestyles. Different time, different planet, different technologies, and different minds. Different! - Tue, 13 May 2003 4:46pm
wronskian cromagnum P.I. - Tue, 13 May 2003 5:22pm
der Actually, I see what Old Dude is getting at. In the '60s being a hippy was also a political thing. Now it's more a fashion, lifestyle choice.

Don't put down the Old Dude, you stupid young dudes. And yeah, you can't have punks like the original punks. All these forms becomes diluted (or at least different) after a while. - Tue, 13 May 2003 5:30pm
Amazed Exactly! Every generation will adapt itself to a lifestyle. This will make them different. Metalheads 25 years from now, won't be like metalheads today. It's called paraphrasing. So, hippies today cannot and are not like the hippies of yesteryear! This would apply to all lifestyle choices. - Tue, 13 May 2003 5:36pm
Amazed Cromagnum PI!! Good one!!!!! - Tue, 13 May 2003 5:44pm
Spark hahaha. this is ridiculus! you all sound like close minded old baffoons! it's funny but if you bring up racism or discrimination on this board, people's ugly sides shine - Wed, 14 May 2003 12:21am
der Is an "old baffoon" anything like and old buffoon?

Just askin' - Wed, 14 May 2003 9:42am
Anonymous whati don't quite understand.
-adopting of a certain moral/political/lifestyle code
-self righteously preaching it's wonderous virtues
-belittling people who don't share your views

-and then becoming offended when a younger generation decided to adopt from it. You should be honored that they find something about your lifestyle worth carrying on.

Punks and hippies are the worst for this. Too much insecurity in both groups. - Wed, 14 May 2003 11:07am
Anonymous Totally ridiculous - Wed, 14 May 2003 11:50am
Anonymous Hippies are au naturel. What's wrong with that? It's as God intended humans to be. - Wed, 14 May 2003 12:21pm
Anonymous Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar out meeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! - Wed, 14 May 2003 8:43pm
Anonymous Does anyone here know every hippy on the planet and every hippy who ever lived? If you do I am willing to bet that every single hippy was different than the others in some way. Nobody is an exact copy of another person, and no matter how old and self-centered you are, you do not know every hippy on the planet and do not know what they believe in or why they choose to live their lifestyle. I know old dude isn't a hippy nor was he ever because hippies DONT pretend they are omnipotent gods. - Wed, 14 May 2003 10:14pm
Valdy I'm an old hippy. And I do think I'm an omnipotent God. - Thu, 15 May 2003 12:02am
Troutbreath Omnipotence isn't what it's cracked up to be. - Thu, 15 May 2003 1:52am
