K.C. User Info... | I suggest re-alligning the phase inducers - if that doesn't work , run a level one diagnostic on its secondary systems. - Wed, 2 Jul 2008 5:16pm

slik User Info... | what's wrong with it? ie how is the midi broken? midi in? out both? will midi triggers work , or the midi clock? - Thu, 3 Jul 2008 12:16pm
sealion User Info... | Midi rarely breaks and unlike guitar jacks few people manage to break them. Its probably a setting, and no offense you might not know the tricks. I like to have one of my old akai samplers running simply to be able to see the midi stream easily (there are software programs for free to do that but I'm lazy). Always nice to know if its spitting anything out and if so on what channel. The old akai 1100 tells me that easily. And its a sample player for mellotron sounds so what the heck, it can stay. i digress. Check thess possible problems: IS it on the same channel as everything else? PRESS "Shift + Midi channel" and then set the channel you want, 1-16. It sends and receives on the same channel. Some people like ch 10 for drums, some don't. Who knows what the last owner used... What clock mode is it set to respond to? master, slave, din sync, or the obscure never used anymore fsk mode? As a din sync slave it can follow a 303 or an 808 (why? well maybe someone liked the 707 cymbal samples) Or likely it could be a midi in slave (run off yer 909 clock or computer). In bpm mode its in charge and sends midi out and sync 24 out to rule the world and that 303 and is transformed into THE CLOCK MASTER. OOOh scary. So that is done with this button combo: SHIFT + SYNC MODE 1) 5-d is DIN sync In 2) 5-l is FSK in 3) 5-n is MIDI in (slave) 4) BPM is send sync 24 and MIDI beat clock out Bet its one of those things, unless you are accidentally using a din sync cable thinking its the same as a midi cable (it ain't). A midi cables has a diode in it (who knew) and a few of the pins are not soldered up to anything (wot a rip!). A din sync cable has five live pins (and happens to be sold at radio shack/circuit city as European stereo cables). So if you want to lock that 808 and 707 you must use a din cable. Midi wont do it. anyhow them’s a few ideas and no soldering iron needed. I like these two sites: oldschoolsound.free.fr/manuels/tr707.doc vtatila.kapsi.fi/tr-707.html - Thu, 3 Jul 2008 8:36pm Edited: Thu, 3 Jul 2008 8:43pm
sealion User Info... | "The TR-707 has samples from the 909 namely crash, hihats and the ride cymbal." Oh looky, I did not know that. I don't like the 909 cymbal much (mxr-185 is more fun) but the hihat and ride are quite nice. So it is a good match for an 808 because of the hats. Learn something everyday, out. - Thu, 3 Jul 2008 8:51pm
slik User Info... | if you don't like the 909 cymbal, try hipass filtering them. It smooths them out a lot. - Thu, 3 Jul 2008 9:31pm
Zedius User Info... | Midi-ox is a very nice, very free tool, if you want to see your midi. - Thu, 3 Jul 2008 10:35pm
