conga User Info... | Hey there anyone have any tips on setting up a hall gig in Sooke ? It is a pink floyd cover band so I think the Sooke folks would really dig it. Anyway any info would be appreciated. Thanks and have a good one - Thu, 26 Jun 2008 4:38pm
Tyler User Info... | I've never done a show in Sooke but this shouldn't be hard. Scope out any "hall" type places - are there community centers, meeting halls, seniors centers, legions, churches, anything like that? If so, get in contact with whoever manages rental of the space. Find out whatever your local rules are about when the noise has to stop, most all ages hall-type shows in Victoria have to be over by 11. The rest is easy, get a couple opening bands, just rent a PA system or hire a sound guy, make a poster (use Metropol to distribute or do it yourself), promote like crazy on the internet, and get some friends to help out with setup and cleanup and security. Putting on shows is really easy to do, but it requires that you're thorough and responsible so that the venue owners are happy with the result. Whatever you do, lean towards it being cheap. Don't spend $300 on ridiculous lighting. Your goal is to play for some people and hopefully not lose money. - Sat, 28 Jun 2008 10:02am
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | Be sure to budget for rotating drum risers, though. Prices may vary according to manufacturer specs/conditions, so a little homework wouldn't hurt, like finding any specialized private contractors who can actually take on such a project in the required time frame for the gig. Flame throwers, fur-lined "laser probisci" and the usual staples can also be dealt with here. Tyler: awesomely concise run-down, dude. Anyone wanting to start a gig should cut and paste or bookmark it. - Sat, 28 Jun 2008 2:46pm
K.C. User Info... | I won't attend any all ages show that doesn't advertise a confetti cannon. - Sat, 28 Jun 2008 6:35pm
