Message Board > General Chitchat > Two gig poster questions (attn: Metropol and whoever else)... |
Mr. Hell User Info... | First to Metropol (because I am too lazy to look it up and others may like to be reminded), how much to do posters for me in downtown Victoria. What does that include? I'll have the poster designed and can supply copies, but if it doesn't affect the price too much I'd rather have you do the duplication. And to anyone who may know: What's the present by-law and whatnot on postering in the municipalities outside of City of Victoria? I wanna put some up, but don't want me or Logan's to be fined. All input is appreciated! - Fri, 9 May 2008 4:23pm
Wheate User Info... | Hello, We (Metropol) charge $0.20 per poster posted in the downtown core on the provided cylinders. Our duplication cost for a BW 11x17 is $0.10. We do runs of 25 per day (every 4th pole) or 50 per day (every 2nd pole). A typical poster campaign is usually 350 posters over a span of two weeks, the cost for this is $112.70 with taxes included. AS for your question about postering outside of Victoria, I would be very careful when it comes to telephone poles, mailboxes and other illegal zones for postings, we have heard of some pretty ugly situations when it comes to illegal postering and I'm sure neither you nor Logan's want any part of that battle. I do know that there are many places to put gigposters in stores in many areas other than the downtown core and we offer Instore postering at a price of $0.50 per poster, we have a huge list of places we hit regularly on a weekly basis. Give me a call at 384-7653 or visit http://www.imetropol.com for further info. Andy - Sat, 10 May 2008 2:32pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Thank you for your response! What kinds of ugly situations went down? Just curious. I am also still wondering about the actual rules about postering in the municipalities, so if anyone knows, please list 'em. - Sat, 10 May 2008 2:44pm Edited: Sat, 10 May 2008 4:00pm
Hearse User Info... | Why not just call the municipal halls and ask? I'm sure they vary somewhat, mostly in penalties, but are all to the tune of "no defacing private or public property". Also, don't forget that there are boards for event ads on most ferries. - Sun, 11 May 2008 9:56pm
LivevicScott User Info... | Outside of the downtown core postering is pretty much limited to community message boards. Anything stapled to a telephone poll is technically illegal according to local bylaws. Local businesses that accept posters are of course also acceptable. - Mon, 12 May 2008 7:27am
{UTA} Mike User Info... | As posted on the metropol website.. amazing what a little website looking will do when it comes to such questions.. http://victoria.ca/cityhall/permits_events_poster.shtml - Mon, 12 May 2008 12:23pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | I didn't want to know about City of Victoria's by-laws, Sherlock Selman. I am already familiar with the restrictions to cylinders. I was wondering about municipalities. We ran afoul of City Of Victoria's poster bylaws many times in the 90's, remember? I sure do. I could have phoned, but I thought I'd ask here first because I thought others may want to know as well. Plus I don't know how to use Google. Thank you for the heads up, Scott. I have heard about these by-laws, but I want to know exactly what they are or if they even really exist. You know how the government likes to lie to get you to obey them. I wonder if taping posters to poles is a crime? For this I will have to investigate if no one is familiar with the actual laws. - Mon, 12 May 2008 6:39pm Edited: Mon, 12 May 2008 7:00pm
Nothingface User Info... | A little investigation can prevent embarassing moments. - Mon, 12 May 2008 9:14pm Edited: Mon, 12 May 2008 9:15pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | When I was doing all ages shows I would put a few posters up around each high school and for the most part (except for some guy in Oak Bay) I never got any guff, though even a soulless bylaw officer would have a hard time playing tough with someone putting on youth gigs at a community center. Tape vs staples I would say giver and look it up but I think both are frowned upon (and i'm just going on memory of 3rd party knowledge so any REAL info you dig up is more then welcome). I know the reason that hydro bitches about the staples and nails is that they claim it causes grief when they climb the polls to fix the wires (even though they use a bucket truck), and I think they're against the tapeing on some sort of littering code, though again I think its mostly because some grandma in oak bay thinks art, music, and culture are going to devalue her home. but I digress. - Mon, 12 May 2008 11:38pm Edited: Mon, 12 May 2008 11:41pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | That's the thing...I have never heard about the actual laws. Bram, embarrassing is less asking a question on Live Victoria and more video taping women for 15 years and then getting caught by a police dog and then having everyone you work with know about it. - Tue, 13 May 2008 6:28am
You Enjoy Myself User Info... | A friend of mine put up some posters for his fledgling "rent-a-son" handy-manboy service on some poles around Gordon Hood and Shelbourne area, and he received calls a few hours later from BC Hydro saying that they needed to be taken down, or else there would be some sort of consequences blah blah blah. Anyways, they scared him enough that he went out and took 'em all down, so he never did find out what would've happened had he not complied. Maybe a little fine or something, but that's speculating. I personally think that Metropol does a great service for Victoria's music community for very reasonable prices, and as long as you don't shaft them on the bill saying that "we never saw our posters up anywhere", like one of Victoria's shittiest bands did, then everyone stays happy. And if you get in Metropol's bad books, it could be tough to get many people out to your next show. Right, Wheate? - Wed, 14 May 2008 1:29pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Well, Saanich doesn't seem to know of any by-laws concerning posters on poles and to contact BC Hydro to ask what their guideline is concerning that. When I find out, I probably won't post it here for the benefit of those who would rather search the web and call municipal halls. - Wed, 14 May 2008 8:17pm
